So, I did not state that you're a racist, or that your behaviour was racist. I only stated that people may perceive it as such, and that it is possible to make racist remarks about a group your part of (which you seem to have completely missed, BTW, considering you claimed I stated the opposite). Also, not having N-word privileges doesn't mean you're being racist, but rather that you lack the acceptance provided by them, i.e. you'll be perceived as being racist (not to mention that N-word privileges can go to people not part of that group under certain conditions, as that TV Tropes article explained).
Whether a statement is racist doesn't depend on who said it or what was said, but the intention. However, there are certain social rules governing this, and ignoring them will get you called a racist, even if you aren't one.

Also, you might surely have stated a few times that you're part-asian (I had in fact a feeling that you weren't 100% white, but I weren't sure), but it's not common knowledge in here, as you haven't stated it as often as, for example, Kor. And even Kor should at least remind people that he is in fact Jweish when making such jokes :x

And the reason I used TV Tropes was not as an argument in any way, but rather to explain the term I used. I could have linked to the Laconic version just as well

Alright, so I finally read through everything.

Look, people... Whether or not the joke was funny is not an issue. However, taking a poor joke as a racist jab is being overly sensitive. I don't think I have ever heard anyone take the term "blackanese" as offensive before either... and I hear a lot of racist jokes. And believe me, I have heard the gamut of racist jokes. I dare say that within my group of friends it is the most fun to do, because we are so diverse. Every race, and ethnicity has some jokes affiliated with it. And you know what? We all, all of my friends, take it in stride and laugh at the jokes and ourselves. Lets see... I have heard a Polish guy make Jewish jokes, a jew take jabs at a german (who also happens to be blonde haired and blue eyed, oh what fun that is), a german make black jokes, and a polish guy make asian jokes (ironically the asians all just laugh... then again they are also female, so that may be the reason). And yeah, all of them are present in the telling. (granted, recently we have taken a liking to telling dead baby jokes, but I digress)

Never once have I seen the race in question make jokes about their own race, lest they were referencing a comedian or were an actual comedian themselves. Why? Because racist jokes are based on sterotypes, and stereotypes are social perception of the target community. The community tends to not make observations upon their own community. Yet, they often still laugh at them because they recognize that every stereotype and joke has at least some grain of truth to it. Is it right? Not really, but let's face it. If everyone stopped being overly sensitive the world would be a better place. And in fact, it seems to me that the race in question tends to feel LESS offended than the person of the race of the person who made the joke in fear of being made to look bad. The fear of being judged as an uncouth asshole if you will.

Whether or not you all agree with the joke is irrelevant, but I'm going to take a guess and say that none of you are of African decent. You can only ASSUME what is offensive to them and what is not. Stop taking the moral high ground, it only makes you look silly when you realize that the only person not laughing is you. (and yes, I have seen that before) (btw, I didn't find the joke particularly funny either, but I saw it in no way offensive to any race, because it IMPLIED ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. I have never heard of an African stereotype that involved lateness, never. Neither about Asian decent either being late. So where was the offensive joke in reference to the original post? Is it because he dropped the word "blackanese" and wasn't black? Really? If Ranger, had say made the joke relating to a common stereotype of either race involved in "blackanese" I'd agree since the definition of racism is "The belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race," but he didn't. The joke, as poor as it was, had absolutely no bearing on the stereotypes of Africans or Asians)

In the end, though, it's one of those types of disagreements that can't take place if there's imminent and likely unavoidable animosity present or else it doesn't turn out to be very constructive, and as a result I think it'd be best if we just let this subject stand on its own for a while and not pursue it further for the time being.

2) here's what I'd compare ranger's joke to:

you have serious problems if you think dragon ball z has a good dub and case closed has a horrible one. first of you have one guy doing half the characters, second frezea do you know what the term smoking jewish grandmother is becuse that's what his is and it is one of the most generic and easiest voices to do. and it also give very little character to a performance. DBZ is the reason way the norm. for anime dubs is just ok, not good not bad, because DBZ should many companies like 4 kids that you could make a lot of money with minuscule effort. no wonder you think cowboy bebop and evongalion have bad dubs, you don't even know what a good one is. are you going to tell me that the two leads in full metal panic need to be recast because they can't act. or that hikaru no go, cardcaptor sakura, and one peice got great dubs. I am sorry if I offend you but you really need some help when it comes to what is a good dub

While tantei okuku probably tried to be funny, there was no actual context or relation to anything. I don't even think there was ever such a stereotype and it just seems like he dropped the word "jewish" there for the sake of........a joke....? That post would probably not have stuck to my memory so much had TO said he was Jewish (though based on later comments I got from him, I'm pretty sure he isn't).

I have said that I carry some Asian blood in me a couple times.  Like I told Akonyl, I've never dropped a picture on here before.  But, there are a few members who have seen my real name/what I look like.  Don't want to single them out, but if you guys are seriously making a big deal about what ethnicity I am...I don't even know what to say.

However, I find it funny that this is even being debated; it almost feels like I'm being put on trial if whether I was in the right or wrong of saying what I said depending on my ethnicity: Why is it okay for someone of xyz race to make an xyz race joke, yet any other race that's considered racist?  I've already explained my outlook on this: to make the assumption that only respective ethnicities can tell their own respective jokes and not be considered "racist" is quite racist in itself.  Not all racism is about negative impact.

You are still following the notion that various and different races is the primary factor in deciding in what one's actions/capabilities are.  Affirmative action is considered racist guys; to give anyone an advantage or disadvantage regarding someone's ethnicity is considered racist.

Plus, if I were to follow your belief such as "N-word priviledges" (what the hell..), in that only xyz ethnicities can make xyz race jokes, why am I getting so much hate from using the term Blackinese to coin myself as a "racist bigot?" In what type of stereotypes am I enforcing here?  I mean, the only famous Blackinese person I can even think of is Tiger Woods.  Kyuu is right, I feel like there is definitely some oversensitivity here and I'm glad that he's pointing it out as well, because honestly none of you would even consider what I'm saying as a valid argument if someone else didn't jump in.

With the fact that I have declared myself as part Asian, I can't believe I'm seeing so many people start doubting my own ethnicity.  Why would I lie.  If I was going to lie, I should of just said I was Black, and I'm pretty sure Phnx wouldn't have got on my case, which is imperatively wrong as well if you think about it - I'm going to get away scott free with any African-American remarks simply because I'm Black, no matter how derogatory it is?

The other thing that just confuses me, is with Callid's and Phoenix's argument that I can't say "Blackinese", which holds no stereotypes whatsoever,  because I'm not black - Blackinese is a combination of Asian and African descent.  So, one of the counter-points I brought up, is with your logic, I should be able to say amount of Blackinese jokes I damn want.  Like I said, I am Asian.  

I'm sorry if I am not as verbose as like Kor being Jewish, I didn't feel like I needed to display my ethnicity around.  But its funny how now, the argument isn't based off the fact if the "Blackinese" comment wasn't racist or not, its focused now on whether or not I'm truly Asian.  Come on.  And seriously, so now it's okay for Kor to make any form of Jewish jokes, simply because he's Jewish? No, it's not.  That's like if a Mexican guy just started spouting out hurtful Mexican comments, but it's okay since he/she is Mexican.  Your race doesn't matter when it comes to racism folks, there is no excuse.  Don't give me that BS.


All in all, I do realize that might have been a bad joke in that it didn't capture any humor, but in no way can that even be considered racist.  Some of you are being far too over-sensitive; I'm pretty sure if an African-American saw my comment he/she would not even care or be offended.  There is a limit on how high you can  climb on the mountain of morals people.

I'm okay with discussing this, but I hope you see my point and refrain from name-calling like calling me a bigot or telling me "I make asshole remarks".  And then telling me to grow up after that?
