Alright, I don't know if this has been discussed before, but....

Does anyone else think Akai purposely left Calvados a gun with which to shoot himself?

It was sorta kinda talked about here and here, but it wasn't much.

Akai would not have a reason to kill Calvados, because Calvados sure had information about the BO.
Or.... Akai had the same informations. He was Gins Partner, da high-ranked Member. But still he has little infos about the enemy. At times he came with clues or withnesses like that vagrant, who see Kir shoots her father.
Then Bourbon. Conan was shocked as the Detective Boys tells him about the second Akai. Why didnt Akai told him about Bourbon and his past with him?

Two options. Maybe he did and Conan guessed that the scar!Akai is Bourbon. That's why he was so freaked out. On the other hand, Akai is pretty secretive. I doubt he would tell a 7 year old boy about one of his biggest enemies.

He might simply have been more focused on getting down to help Jodie, Conan and Ai, so he didn't completely search Calvados.

My opinion is that Akai is still alive and is pretending to be okiya sabaru and scar akai is borboun who is trying to lure the the real akai out.

Really? I was under the impression that they were partnered up while Akai was Rye, and the screw-up with Camel happened after they'd started working together. (Although now that I think about it, I can't remember why I thought that.)

Really? I was under the impression that they were partnered up while Akai was Rye, and the screw-up with Camel happened after they'd started working together. (Although now that I think about it, I can't remember why I thought that.)

It's never really clarified if Akai actually worked with Gin before directly, but it seems unlikely they had any extended contact given that Akai had just been given his codename and was going to meet Gin to work under him. If the org made preparations like sending in a scout/whoever that old dude was ahead of time, it seems more like a first time meeting rather than a re-meeting up. Kir didn't have to go through checks of that level before her mission.
I guess what induces the false feeling that Gin and Akai had worked together frequently is the fact they have personal antipathy for one another that people who don't know each other well shouldn't have. We know Akai survived multiple attempts on his life, so maybe the rivalry developed when they tried to take each other out during the two (three?) years after the FBI mission failed? (Assuming they tried to take each other out after the fact...)

if my memory serves me right, he was just about to be promoted to work alongside in when agent camel did the 'mistake'.

I don't think Akai ever said that he worked alongside Gin in the anime, although he did say he had worked his way up to a codename and partner level.
