for the basic rules.  However, we've added some rules of our own so be sure to read what's below as well.

In the game, each player is given a role, of "Mobster", "Townsperson", or something else depending on which additional roles we choose.

The game has two phases: Night and Day. The game starts during a Night phase, and switches between the two until the mafia or townspeople win/lose.

Night:
When night begins, all players will send the moderator (that's me!) a PM, depending on your role. If you are a Mobster, you PM me who you want to kill and that night and which one of you will be doing the killing. This is done by Anokata or, in the lack of Anokata, by any of the mobsters or the one they elect to be a leader.  The mobsters will also use pm the mod individually to use their special abilities (e.g. Gin's slander ability or Bourbon's investigative ability).  
If you're a townsperson, you will also pm the moderator should your role call for it (e.g. Heiji with his interrogative powers or Megure's ability to investigate).  
All results are pmed at the end of the night/beginning of the day (unless you died during the night) and the person who the mafia killed is announced in the thread.
There will also be dreams each night.  See Matsuda under Roles.
Once the mafia kills their victim (or fails to kill them), the night phase will end and the day phase begins.

Day:
When day begins, the moderator will say what happened during the night (the results of what happened after everyone's PMs have been looked at), including who died (or if nobody died). All players who had an action during the night phase will get back the results of their actions via pm.  Afterwards, all remaining players vote on who to lynch under suspicion of being a mobster, and then that person is killed. Votes are sent to the moderator (they won't be counted if you just post in the thread) and all votes are posted at the end of the day phase.  If there is a tie then nobody dies.  
Some roles can have other actions during the day phase (e.g. Haibara's following ability and Hakuba's traveling) so these should also be sent to the mod via pm.  The results (if any) will be sent at the end of the day phase/beginning of the night phase.  
After the voted player has been lynched, the day phase will end and the next night phase will begin.  Rinse and repeat.
Rules and keywords

Keywords
  • Investigator: May investigate a certain number of targets to see if they committed a certain action (ex. mangaluva killed Callid; Callid tricked Akonyl; Akonyl protected Conia) and will get either a 'correct' or 'false' reply.  This is a night action. This action cannot be hindered in any way (except by the Trickster). If tricked, all results will be false.  The slanderer can also slander as much as he want, the investigator will not get irritated by that.
  • Interrogator: May interrogate anyone at night and will get either a "BO" or "Not BO" result.  If tricked by the trickster, the interrogation will fail.
  • Lovers: When two people become lovers, they must commit suicide if one of them dies either by lynching or at the hands of the mafia.  They both know the identity of the other and are allowed to and expected to consult with each other on who to lynch. The lovers can achieve a lover's victory if they are the only ones remaining at the end of the game or if Yumi is dead and there is a stalemate between the townspeople and the mafia.  This is the only way for the lovers to win the game. If they are both townspeople then they do not win if the Townspeople win and if they are both mafia they do not win when the mafia wins. It is possible that a Poor Lover is chosen at the start of the game.  They are in love with one of the lovers and, if the targeted dies, they also die.  However, if the secondary lover dies then poor lover will save the targeted lover from committing suicide and they will become lovers afterward.
    • [li]If both lovers are on the same side (either Town or BO), they win if their side win. If one lover is a townspeople and other lover is BO, they win by eliminating ALL the other players.
    Other Rules
    • [li]Bo can kill BO if they so wish.
    • During the night, several actions may be taken.  In order to avoid confusion, some actions have been given precedence over others.  This is most easily written as...
      Arresting > Killing > All other actions
      So if Takagi decides to arrest Vodka for killing Heiji, Vodka decides to kill Takagi, and Takagi also decides to investigate something or other, the activities of the night will be such.  Takagi will successfully arrest Vodka and will therefore not be killed and he will also get his investigations in.  If Takagi does not or fails to arrest Vodka then Takagi will be killed and he will not get to investigate.
    • Don't ask the moderator for information about other players' roles or try to influence moderator tasks (e.g. ask them to not include players in dreams).  It is frowned upon.
    • The mafia is allowed to and is expected to consult with each other on who to kill during the night and who to lynch during the day.  You may all vote differently if you wish.
    • If Vermouth and 1412 are somehow in the same game and somehow choose the same person to disguise as, they will both disguise as the same role and the targeted individual will get a new role.
    • Mafia members can only kill once until all other mafia members have killed once.  Then they each get a second turn to kill.
    • You may not copy/screenshot etc. the PM from the GM to proof your role to someone else. But you can claim to be your role, whether it's your real role or not.
    • You can PM people and post without restrictions (except the GM stuff, see above) when you're alive. You may not talk about your investigations/suspicions/clues when you're dead (PM or not). But you may still talk about other stuff not concerning the gameplay. (You may complain to the BO for being killed for example. But you may not complain to a specific player and "hint" that he could be a BO member)
    • When you're arrested, you can still talk freely (PMing or posting in the thread). Also about your clues/investigations etc. Otherwise you're considered dead (can't use abilities, can't vote...)
    • You have to PM the GM to vote/use your ability. Posting in the thread doesn't count. Everybody may vote for the lynching (BO too) and the votes will be posted in public.
    • If you don't have time or you'll travel somewhere and can't play for some days or you want to quit the game completely, at least notify the GM.
Roles:

MAFIA
(If Anokata is not present in a game, the BO have the option of electing a leader who makes the decisions but has no additional powers otherwise.)

* Gin, Mafia slanderer.
  • Can slander anyone at night, this will make their "alignment" change to the opposite as far as detectives are concerned.(Interrogations, not investigations)
  • Has a part in deciding whom to kill.
  • Can kill at night if ordered by Anakota, but only if no other alive BO member were assigned to kill someone less often.
* Vodka, Mafia intimidator
  • Can intimidate people so that they can't take their night action.
  • Not in game yet
  • Has a part in deciding whom to kill.
* Pisco, Mafia Eraser
  • Has a part in deciding who to kill
  • Can kill at night if ordered by Anakota, but only if no other alive BO member were assigned to kill someone less often.
  • Once per game the Eraser can remove the body of the victim of the nightly killing. The town and the BO will only learn what player died, but not his/her role. Pisco will know the identity of the body (The GM will PM it). If the victim didn't die during that night or if the action was hindered it can be used again.
*Tequila, Mafia Smasher
  • During the night, Tequila chooses one person.
  • This person gets completely smashed by the end of the night (If tricked, nothing will happen). Due to an extreme hangover, the person is unable to participate in voting to lynch the next day. Lynching vote will appear as if the victim didn't voted.
  • Can kill at night if ordered by Anakota, but only if no other alive BO member were assigned to kill someone less often.
* Anokata, Mafia boss
  • Cannot be detected by any detective or interrogation, but can be cornered by the Trickster. He has no scent. His identity gets known after death.
  • Has the right to make the final decision who of the Mafia kills which townsfolk - although he will hopefully listen to his subordinates (and the rules).
* Vermouth, Mafia disguiser
  • In the preparation phase, she'll choose a player (not a role) to disguise as. She'll be just like this role by any means and will even have his special abilities (if any), yet she still remains a member of the Mafia. If she chooses someone also active in the preparation phase, she won't disguise at all. The one she disguised at will get a new role. Her disguise is discovered if she dies.  If she is interrogated she will appear as non-BO (only if she is disguised).  Sherry's sense and investigations still work on her, though.
  • Has a part in deciding whom to kill.
  • Can kill at night if ordered by Anakota, but only if no other alive BO member were assigned to kill someone less often.
* Korn/Chianti/Calvados, Mafia assassin
  • If they kill at night, they might ignore the protection of Ran or Makoto.
  • Have a part in deciding whom to kill.
  • Can kill at night if ordered by Anakota, but only if no other alive BO member were assigned to kill someone less often.
* Bourbon, Mafia detective
  • May investigate at night if a certain role is in the game.  Will receive a true or false verdict (or nothing if tricked).  He must accuse a character by name, not role type.  So you would have to say Heiji or Shinichi.  You can't just say 'detective'.
  • Has a part in deciding whom to kill.
*Irish, Mafia Finder-Outer
  • Can kill at night if ordered by Anakota, but only if no other alive BO member were assigned to kill someone less often.
  • In the preparation phase, he chooses a list of players. Of these, the GM picks a random one that is not in the BO and reveals that person's name + role to Irish. This reveal doesn't include if the person has best friends/lovers/etc, and does not reveal if someone is Kid, just who he's disguised as.

POLICE

* Megure, police leader
  • Investigator 4
  • May arrest anyone at night for any crime (killing, disguising, slandering, abetting a murder), even after taking another action. Again, the action has to be specified (mangaluva helped Conia in killing Callid). However, if the person did NOT commit the crime it has been accused of, the police officer has to leave the police, become a commoner (loses all abilities) and his identity gets revealed. An arrested person may still talk freely and its identity remains secret, but it's otherwise considered dead (and can therefore not get killed).
  • May order a house search at night. This action cannot be hindered, since even the Trickster can't trick the many police officers involved in the search. This will reveal everything about the target, all its doings since the start of the game, its disguise, role etc.. However, if the target did not commit a crime, Megure is forced to leave the police, becoming a commoner and his identity gets revealed.
* Satou/Takagi/Shiratori, police officer
  • Investigator 4
  • May arrest anyone at night for any crime (killing, disguising, slandering, abetting a murder). Again, the action has to be specified (mangaluva killed Callid). However, if the person did NOT commit the crime it has been accused of, the police officer has to leave the police, become a commoner (loses all abilities) and his identity gets revealed. An arrested person may still talk freely and its identity remains secret, but it's otherwise considered dead (and can therefore not get killed).
* Yumi, Amor
  • Investigator 2
  • Chooses one or two pairings (depending on the number of players) in the preparation phase. They become lovers, and either kills himself if the other dies. No protector can protect a lover from suicide and no healer can heal him/her afterwards.
  • May also choose the Poor Lover. (S)He is in love with one of the lovers, but the target of his/her love isn't. If the targeted gets killed, both the true lover and the Poor one kill themselves. However, if the other lover is killed, the targeted one will be hindered from suicide by the Poor Lover, and they become lovers afterwards.
  • May arrest anyone at night for any crime (killing, disguising, slandering, abetting a murder). Again, the action has to be specified (mangaluva killed Callid). However, if the person did NOT commit the crime it has been accused of, the arresting fails and the police officer has to leave the police (becoming a commoner) and his identity gets revealed. An arrested person may still talk freely and its identity remains secret, but it's otherwise considered dead (and can therefore not get killed).


FBI/CIA

* Akai, Hunter
  • May kill someone else when lynched. They will kill the person who they voted to lynch.
  • Investigator 5
* Jodie/James/Camel, FBI agents
  • Investigator 5


OTHERS

* Shinichi/Conan/Heiji, Meitantei
  • Investigator 5
  • Interrogator
  • He can only choose to Investigate or Interrogate at night, he can't do both in the same night.
* Hakuba, foreign Meitantei
  • Does not reside in Japan. As long as he does not decide to travel to Japan (which will need either the following day or night), he is handled as if he were arrested. He may also leave Japan at any time, to the same conditions as above.
  • Interrogator (May not use this ability while not in Japan)
  • Since he's not familiar with anyone, he may not investigate. Nobody would tell him anything.
* Ran, Protector
  • May choose to protect any number of people at day. If one of the protected people is going to get lynched, she will jump in and sacrifice herself for the protected individual. Therefore the meant-to-be-lynched stays alive (and his identity remains secret) while Ran dies.
  • May also choose one individual to protect at night. If said individual is about to be killed by the BO, Ran again sacrifices herself for the individual. The protected individual then learns the identity of the attacker (!). If the doctor decided to heal the protected one, he is also close enough to heal Ran instead and will do so.
  • Can not be protected from the self-sacrifice.
  • If tricked while protecting, the protection will not simply fail, but both Ran and the protected will die.
* Makoto, foreign protector
  • Does not reside in Japan. As long as he does not decide to travel to Japan (which would require either the following day or night), he is handled as if he were arrested. He may also leave Japan at any time, to the same conditions as above.
  • May choose to protect any number of people at day. If one of the protected people is going to get lynched, he will jump in and stop the lynching. Since he's much better in self-defence than Ran, he will not die in the process. Therefore the meant-to-be-lynched stays alive (and his identity remains secret).
  • May also choose one individual to protect at night. If said individual is about to be killed by the BO, he again protectes the individual. The protected individual and Makoto then learn the identity of the attacker (!).
  • If tricked while protecting, the protection will fail, but Makoto will still stay alive and learn the attackers identity.
  • After he successfully protected (or was tricked and failed), he will get called away instantly to a Karate championship and will respawn for 3 phases. So if he successfully protects during Night 1, he will automatically fly during Day 1, stay for the karate championship during Night 2 and can fly back during Day 2, arriving again at Japan during Night 3.
* Araide, doctor
  • May choose one individual to heal during the night. If this individual (and/or his protector) gets killed, he can heal him so that said individual will not die. Can heal himself. If he heals someone who gets attacked, everyone involved will know that there was an attack and that the victim was healed (also Protectors).
* Agasa, inventor
  • Bow-tie: As the inventor of the bow-tie, he can lend it to anyone for a night except for himself (the individual has to return it). Someone in possession of the bow-tie can act if he were Conan and can choose to Interrogate or Investigate 5.
  • Watch: He can also lend the watch to anyone for one night except for himself (it has to be returned). Someone in possession of the Watch is protected from the BO as if he were protected by Ran or Makoto, but he needs to fire from the distance so he does not get to see the attacker's face and will therefore not learn his identity.
  • Neither the recipient of Watch or bow-tie nor Agasa learn each others identity (so Ctu as Agasa will give the Watch to "conia", and conia alias Ran will receive it from "Agasa".
  • He may lend both to the same person. While he has to decide whom he'll give it to during the day, he might include (ordered) alternatives in case the one he chose gets lynched.
* Sherry(Ai), shrunken scientist
  • Has a strong sense of the BO. She may accompany anyone during the day and the accompanied will learn that Ai accompanied them. If the accompanied is either Akai, Okiya, or from the BO, Ai will get the impression that he's from the BO.  Ai cannot be fouled by a disguise or by a slander.  Anokata has no scent.
* 1412, master thief
  • In the preparation phase, he'll choose a number of players and send them to the GM, who will rule out the BO players and randomly choose a player from the remaining players. He chooses players (not roles) to disguise as. He'll be just like this role by any means and will even have its special abilities (if any). If he chooses someone also active in the preparation phase, he will be treated as if he had chosen a commoner. The one he disguised as will get a new role. His identity is revealed when he dies.
  • Investigator 3
  • If any member of the police force learned his identity, they would instantly arrest him. Therefore 1412 may not tell his identity to anyone. But he might act as if he were an FBI agent.
  • If he disguises as a character with an "Investigator" ability higher than his, he will get that level of investigative ability (That is, if he disguises as Akai, he would have Akai's "Investigator 5", not "Investigator 8" from his+akai's added abilities.
* Kogoro, drunk private detective
  • Interrogator - But will receive random results.
  • However, if either Eri, Ran or Conan/Shinichi dies, he'll get sober and get the normal powers of the meitanteis.
* Sonoko, best friend
  • May choose someone to be her best friend in the preparation phase. She learns everything he knows, and may pretend to be him in public so that he's saved. If he's killed, she learns the attacker's identity. They both are aware of each others identity.
  • To choose someone, she gives a number of suggestions to the GM (Number varies within the game, so the GM has to specify the number to the player that got Sonoko when the GM PMs the role).  The GM randomly chooses someone out of these for her to befriend.  She may not befriend lovers, DBs or any BO member except for Vermouth.  In this case she will befriend Vermouth's disguise and not learn her true identity.
* Eri, lawyer
  • Can bring back everyone who has been arrested with a lawsuit at night.
  • Vermouth can not disguise as Eri (to avoid that the BO brings back everyone who is in prison).
* Eisuke, Trickster
  • Can choose someone at night to trick. If this person takes an action during the night, this action will not work. To prevent the Mafia from killing someone, he'll have to choose the designated killer.
* Okiya Subaru, Graduate Student
  • May investigate at night if a certain role is in the game.  Will receive a true or false verdict (or nothing if tricked).  He must accuse a character by name, not role type.  So you would have to say Heiji or Shinichi.  You can't just say 'detective'.
  • May alternatively choose one player to give First Aid at night. Someone who received First Aid will not die immediately if killed, but will instead be severely wounded. A severely wounded character can not vote for lynching, and will die at the next nightfall, but has learned his attackers identity (unless it was a sniper) and may freely talk about it (and anything else, of course - until he dies).
* Mitsuhiko/Ayumi/Genta, Detective Boys
  • Know the identities of all members of the Detective Boys (except Conan and Haibara).
  • Cannot be disguised as.
  • Decide to investigate one person role (Akonyl is Sonoko, Callid is Eisuke, mangaluva is Bourbon) together during the day.
* Matsuda, sort of ghost
  • Matsuda is an NPC, controlled by the GM. Every night, 1 person will be given a dream containing 3 facts, 2 false facts and 1 true fact.

wait a tic, so looking at that revised lovers thing, it looks like the lovers can't win, and are just normal townspeople?

Also I like how my tequila role made it into the game, that was entirely a joke suggestion but if it works :P

Yep, lovers are no longer a 3rd faction, unless they are in separate sides. Only then, they win by eliminating all the other players.

What's the purpose of Irish? Fine, he abducts someone - does this have any consequences except that he knows one role that isn't in the game? because if so, it's actually very similar to what Bourbon does, only hat he can do so more often.
Also, you should either re-include Okiya's First Aid (which is actually very weak, but all seem to believe it's strong) or raise his count of testings. After all, while Bourbon knows some players and will only search for townsfolk, Okiya knows none and will search for both...
If  ;), :D, ;D, ::), :P, :-X, :o or >:D are attached, that paragraph may not be 100% serious. Seriously.

yeah, irish seems a bit limited in that his only advantage is that he automatically gets a "false" on night 1 rather than bourbon who might have to search multiple times for someone not in the game.

Apart from knowing a role that's not in the game, No one will know if Irish died, they will instead get the name of a character that's not in the game. Therefore, the lynching will reveal a townspeople died, not a BO. Of course, using Okiya and Bourbon, Irish plan can be discovered ;)

Emmm, no ;D I was using my Wii while replying, so I accidentaly skiped it. I remember the Okiya' First Aid was posted somewhere, can someone bring it here?
I'm guessing that Okiya chooses someone to heal every night, just as Araide. If that's the case, I approve it, since there hasn't been much healing throughout all the Mafia we played.

And considering Okiya's First Aid:

    * May alternatively choose one player to give First Aid at night. Someone who received First Aid will not die immediately if killed, but will instead be severely wounded. A severely wounded character can not vote for lynching, and will die at the next nightfall, but has learned his attackers identity (unless it was a sniper) and may freely talk about it (and anything else, of course - until he dies).
If  ;), :D, ;D, ::), :P, :-X, :o or >:D are attached, that paragraph may not be 100% serious. Seriously.
