if you change the lovers that way, I would make a suggestion that you not finish the game until the lovers are dead or a stalemate happens then. Although it's possible for the lovers to win (as game 2 showed), I feel like requiring them to kill off the BO and town at an equal pace hinders them, and because they're only 2 people and someone (Yumi) already knows who they are, they're at a pretty bad disadvantage imo. So basically, the game ends only when 1 party out of BO, Lovers and Town are left, and if all the BO are lynched but the lovers are still around, you can maybe announce something like "you have killed all the BO members, but feel like someone's still out to get you...", giving the lovers a chance to kill off the rest of the townspeople when the BO is all dead already before the game ends.

You make a good point and the advice shall be taken. 

And yes, they are at a disadvantage, but I don't think it's much of an accomplishment if they win if their team wins.  I'd like a lovers victory to be more of a special sort of win.  However, they also have a bit of an advantage.  They have no doubt as to the identity of the other lover so they can trust each other completely.  They don't have to go through the trouble of proving that they're a townsperson who is not just Vermouth in a Halloween costume.  They also have two votes together and can, if done correctly, can lead the lynchings somewhat.  There's also the poor lover to consider.  In all, I think it's actually pretty even.  And if one of them is in the BO them they're even more dangerous.

true, but in that same vein sonoko has the same amount of trust as the lovers, but wins when the town does. Although sonoko is down one power, so *shrug*

I am strongly against it.

All Yumi would have to do is to announce the identities of the lovers in public and watch the BO kill them instantly since they would take out 2 opponents with one hit. Or for the town to lynch them (together with the BO) to remove the third party. All Yumi would have to do is to give away her role. What did Callid say: Yumi is a Police Officer and officers are just pawns anyway.
Yumi has no reason to keep their identities secret. After all it is the lovers agenda to kill her. And everyone else. And she couldn't win herself as long as they are alive.

If you really want to have the lovers not to win if they are on the same team, then you (the GM) should play the role of Yumi and decide the pairing. That way none of the players know their identities and they are - a little bit - safer.
Their positions would still be weak anyway.  ::)

imo, yumi knowing the lovers' identities is fine. However, I think you should remove her ability to arrest people (after all, she's just a traffic cop). If she has the ability to arrest people, she has a method of 100% revealing her identity (perform a false arrest) to make people know who the lovers are. If you make her investigate, she has no way to really prove herself to other people.

Why in the world would Yumi do that?  Why would you want to take the life of two townspeople at once?  o.O  Remember, the Lovers want the BO dead too.  You'd be committing suicide for your team... it'd be even worse than an Xcommando!

If they don't win together with the town they can not be considered as townpeople. They are a third party that needs to be eliminated.
And conveniently Yumi knows who they are.

Really, the town has no reason to keep them alive. Because the town can't win as long as they live.
Beside... what could be a better target for lynching during day 1 when there are little leads for players identities? Better kill the third party than a real townie.

OK than what kind of strategy should I use this time

Yes, they are townspeople.  They're just townspeople who want to kill everyone else.

Yes I would like to join....not being able to play mad me  :( but I had to visit a friend and get my tux fitting done for his wedding :)
