I might wake up early and go running. I also might wake up and win the lottery. The odds are about the same.

Heh, are we really going to need a new thread for each game?  That was rhetorical.  If we really do need a new thread then I'll create one at the start of the prep phase.  That way any changes to the rules can be made in this thread and we won't clutter the other, newer thread with them.  Makes it neater, no?

Mmm, yes I do like the change to Bourbon's ability so I probably will change it.  I've got to go back over the pages and look at all the suggested changes and objections/advantages/disadvantages to them first.  It won't be done tonight, though.

fair enough. I'm just sayin that because after each game people seem to say it, and I dunno if it was simply because it was a fresh new topic ripe for the posting or not, but considering how much posting went on in here I'd say we should maybe do it again :P

You mean the time from now till the start?  Yes, it is a bit long.  There are several reasons for that, though.  For one thing, we're having a birthday party for my best friend on Saturday so I'll be busy that whole night.
College party + trying to write intelligent posts = bad idea
There's also a local volunteer give-back-to-the-community thing early on Saturday so starting on Friday night is also not good since I'll be sleeping early.  So the question is, do you want a mod who can actually make intelligent posts on time or one that has to make unreadable posts several hours later or earlier (ie. never on time)?  If you have a problem with it you can mod the next game and start immediately after this one ends.  ^_^

So... ROLES!
Note that these are not official (yet), but simply my suggestion.

Roles
      • Spoiler:
        MAFIA
        • Gin, Mafia slanderer.
          • [li]Can slander anyone at night, this will make their "alignment" change to the opposite as far as detectives are concerned (but not Matsuda).
          • Can kill at night if ordered by Anakota, but only if no other alive BO member were assigned to kill someone less often
          [/li]
        • Vodka/Tequila/Pisco, Mafia member
          • [li]Can kill at night if ordered by Anakota, but only if no other alive BO member were assigned to kill someone less often
          [/li]
        • Anakota, Mafia boss
          • [li]Cannot be detected by any detective, but can be detected by Matsuda or may be cornered by the Trickster. His identity gets known after death.
          • Has the right to make the final decision who of the Mafia kills which townsfolk - although he will hopefully listen to his subordinates (and the rules ;D).
          • Can kill at night if he chooses so, but only if no other alive BO member were assigned to kill someone less often
          [/li]
        • Vermouth, Mafia disguiser
          • [li]In the preparation phase, she'll choose a player (not a role) to disguise as. She'll be just like this role by any means and will even have his special abilities (if any), yet she still remains a member of the Mafia. If she chooses someone also active in the preparation phase, it will be treated as if she had chosen a commoner. The one she disguised at will get a new role. Her disguise is discovered if she dies, and Matsuda and, under certain circumstances, the Trickster may find out.
          • Can kill at night if ordered by Anakota, but only if no other alive BO member were assigned to kill someone less often
          [/li]
        • Korn/Chianti/Calvados, Mafia assassin
          • [li]If they kill at night, they might ignore the protection of Ran, Makoto or from the Watch.
          • If they kill at night, and someone would normally learn their identity, they don't learn it (because they were sniped).
          • Can kill at night if ordered by Anakota, but only if no other alive BO member were assigned to kill someone less often
          [/li]
        • Bourbon, Mafia detective
          • [li]May investigate at night if a certain role is in the game. Will recieve a true/false verdict (or nothing, if tricked). Note that he must accuse by character name, not role type. So, he can't say "I think there's a detective in the game", he has to guess a specific one.
          • Can kill at night if ordered by Anakota, but only if no other alive BO member were assigned to kill someone less often
          [/li]

        POLICE
        • Megure, police leader
          • [li]May investigate if a certain target committed a certain action (mangaluva killed Callid; Callid tricked Akonyl; Akonyl protected Conia) at night 3 times and will get either a right or false. This action cannot be hindered in any way (except by the Trickster), since it doesn't matter if a Vermouth disguised as Ran killed Shinichi or if the true Ran did so - the person who seems to be Ran will be arrested anyway. The slanderer can also slander as much as he want, the police will not get irritated by that.
          • May arrest anyone at night for any crime (killing, disguising, slandering, abetting a murder), even after taking another action. Again, the action has to be specified (mangaluva helped Conia in killing Callid). However, if the person did NOT commit the crime it has been accused of, the police officer has to leave the police (becoming a commoner) and his identity gets revealed. An arrested person may still talk freely and its identity remains secret, but it's otherwise considered dead (and can therefore not get killed).
          • May order a house search at night. This action cannot be hindered, since even the Trickster can't trick the many police officers involved in the search. This will reveal everything about the target, all its doings since the start of the game, its disguise, role etc.. However, if the target did not commit a crime, Megure is forced to leave the police, becoming a commoner and his identity gets revealed.
        • Satou/Takagi/Shiratori/etc., police officer
          • [li]May investigate if a certain target committed a certain action (mangaluva killed Callid; Callid tricked Akonyl; Akonyl protected Conia) at night 3 times and will get either a right or false. This action cannot be hindered in any way (except by the Trickster), since it doesn't matter if a Vermouth disguised as Ran killed Shinichi or if the true Ran did so - the person who seems to be Ran will be arrested anyway. [/li]
        • Yumi, Amor
          • [li]Chooses one or two pairings (depending on the number of players) in the preparation phase. They become lovers, and either kills himself if the other dies. No protector can protect a lover from suicide and no healer can heal him/her afterwards.
          • Also chooses the Poor Lover. (S)He is in love with one of the lovers, but the target of his/her love isn't. If the targeted gets killed, both the true lover and the Poor one kill themselves. However, if the other lover is killed, the targeted one will be hindered from suicide by the Poor Lover, and they become lovers afterwards.
          • May investigate if a certain target committed a certain action (mangaluva killed Callid; Callid tricked Akonyl; Akonyl protected Conia) at night 3 times and will get either a right or false. [/li]

        FBI/CIA
        • Akai, Hunter
          • [li]May kill someone else when lynched. The person he lynched will be killed automatically.
          • Since he's a superb investigators, he may investigate up to 5 actions (see POLICE). But since he is from the US and not from Japan, he may not arrest anyone.
          [/li]
        • Jodie/James/Camel, FBI agents
          • [li]Since they are superb investigators, they may investigate up to five actions (see POLICE). But since they are from the US and not from Japan, they may not arrest anyone.
          [/li]

        OTHERS
        • Shinichi/Conan/Heiji, Meitantei
          • [li]May interrogate anyone at night, and will get either an "BO" or "Not BO" result.
          • May also choose to investigate actions instead, in this case he may investigate up to five actions (see POLICE). Since he's not with the police, he mustn't arrest anyone.
          [/li]
        • Hakuba, foreign Meitantei
          • [li]Does not reside in Japan. As long as he does not decide to travel to Japan (which will need either the following day or night), he is handled as if he were arrested. He may also leave Japan at any time, to the same conditions as above.
          • May interrogate anyone at night, and will get either an "BO" or "Not BO" result.
          • Since he's not familiar with anyone, he may not investigate. Nobody would tell him anything.
          [/li]
        • Ran, Protector
          • [li]May choose to protect any number of persons at day. If one of the protected persons is going to get lynched, she will jump in and sacrifice herself for the protected individual. Therefore the meant-to-be-lynched stays alive (and his identity remains secret) while Ran dies.
          • May also choose one individual to protect at night. If said individual is about to be killed by the BO, Ran again sacrifices herself for the individual. The protected individual then learns the identity of the attacker (!). If the doctor decided to heal the protected one, he is also close enough to heal Ran instead and will do so.
          • Can not be protected from the self-sacrifice.
          • If tricked while protecting, the protection will not simply fail, but both Ran and the protected will die.
          [/li]
        • Makoto, foreign protector
          • [li]Does not reside in Japan. As long as he does not decide to travel to Japan (which will need either the following day or night), he is handled as if he were arrested. He may also leave Japan at any time, to the same conditions as above.
          • May choose to protect any number of persons at day. If one of the protected persons is going to get lynched, he will jump in and stop the lynching. Since he's much better in self-defence than Ran, he will not die in the process. Therefore the meant-to-be-lynched stays alive (and his identity remains secret).
          • May also choose one individual to protect at night. If said individual is about to be killed by the BO, he again protectes the individual. The protected individual and Makoto then learn the identity of the attacker (!).
          • If tricked while protecting, the protection will fail, but Makoto will still stay alive and learn the attackers identity.
          • After he successfully protected (or was tricked and failed), he will get called away instantly to a Karate championship and stay there for one phase. Therefore he'll be away for (at least) three phases (travel+stay+travel).
          [/li]
        • Araide, doctor
          • [li]May choose one individual to heal. If this individual (and/or his protector) gets killed, he can heal him so that said individual will not die. Can heal himself. If he heals someone who gets attacked, everyone involved (except the BO man) will know that there was an attack and that is was healed (also Protectors).
          [/li]
        • Agasa, inventor
          • [li]Bow-tie: As the inventor of the bow-tie, he can lend it to anyone for a night except for himself (the individual has to return it). Someone in possession of the bow-tie can act if he were Conan and can choose to interrogate or investigate.
          • Watch: He can also lend the bow-tie to anyone for one night except for himself (it has to be returned). Someone in possession of the Watch is protected from the BO as if he were protected by Ran or Makoto, but he needs to fire from the distance so he does not get to see the attacker's face and will therefore not learn his identity.
          • Neither the recipient of Watch or bow-tie nor Agasa learn each others identity (so Ctu as Agasa will give the Watch to "conia", and conia alias Ran will receive it from "Agasa".
          • He may lend both to the same person. While he has to decide whom he'll give it to during the day, he might include (ordered) alternatives in case the one he chose gets lynched.
          [/li]
        • Sherry(Ai), shrunken scientist
          • [li]Has a strong sense of the BO. She may accompany anyone at day. The accompanied will learn that Ai accompanied him. If the accompanied is either Akai, Okiya or from the BO, Ai will get the impression that he's from the BO. Ai cannot be fouled by a disguise or by a slander.
          [/li]
        • 1412, master thief
          • [li]In the preparation phase, he'll choose a player (not a role) to disguise as. He'll be just like this role by any means and will even have its special abilities (if any). If he chooses someone also active in the preparation phase, he will be treated as if he had chosen a commoner. The one he disguised as will get a new role. His identity is revealed when he dies.
          • Does also have investigative abilities, just like a FBI agent.
          • If any member of the police force learned his identity, he would instantly arrest him. Therefore 1412 may not tell his identity to anyone. But he might act as if he were an FBI agent.
          [/li]
        • Kogoro, drunk private detective
          • [li]May interrogate anyone at night, but will get random results.
          • However, if either Eri, Ran or Conan/Shinichi dies, he'll get sober and get the normal powers of the meitanteis.
          [/li]
        • Sonoko, best friend
          • [li]May choose someone to be her best friend in the preparation phase. She learns everything he knows, and may pretend to be him in public so that he's save. If he's killed, she learns the attacker's identity. They both are aware of each others identity.
          • To choose someone, she'll give any number of suggestions to the GM. The GM will now randomly choose someone for her. If everyone Sonoko suggested is with the BO, she'll have no Best Friend (except for Vermouth - in this case Sonoko will befriend Vermouth's false face and will not learn her true identity).
          [/li]
        • Eri, lawyer
          • [li]Can bring back everyone who has been arrested with a lawsuit at night.
          • Vermouth can not disguise as Eri (to avoid that the BO brings back everyone who's in prison ;)).
          [/li]
        • Eisuke, Trickster
          • [li]Can choose someone at night to trick. If this person takes an action during the night, this action will not work. To prevent the Mafia from killing someone, he'll have to choose the designated killer.
          • While the detectives' abilities are restrained, Eisuke can trick almost every action. That's his great advantage.
          [/li]
        • Mitsuhiko/Ayumi/Genta, Detective Boys
          • [li]Know each other's identities.
          • Can not be disguised as (how should Vermouth disguise as Ayumi!?).
          • Decide one person to interrogate at day together. Therefore, slandering is useless against them, but disguises and Anakota's immunity do still work.
          [/li]
        • Okiya Subaru, Graduate Student
          • [li]May investigate at night if a certain role is in the game. Will receive a true/false verdict (or nothing, if tricked). Note that he must accuse by character name, not role type. So, he can't say "I think there's a detective in the game", he has to guess a specific one.
          • May alternatively choose one player to give First Aid at night. Someone who received First Aid will not die immediately if killed, but will instead be severely wounded. A severely wounded character can not vote for lynching, and will die at the next nightfall, but has learned his attackers identity (unless it was a sniper) and may freely talk about it (and anything else, of course - until he dies).
          [/li]
If you want, I'm sure I can invent other roles, but those should be enough.

Changed:

- Mafia Snipers (not discovered)
- Bourbon (ability change)
- Vermouth (no conversion, no speech restriction)

- Police Investigation: 3
- Yumi (became officer)

- FBI Investigation: 5
- Akai (clarified)
- Kir (removed)

- Meitanteis: Investigation: 5
- Makoto (can return after Karate championship)
- Ai (Only one variant, only on day, without strength of scent, Okiya has scent)
- Sonoko (several players and GM selection, Mafia not allowed)
- DB (added)
- Okiya (added)

- several formal things

I'd also suggest a new thread.

I'm double-posting, because I'd suggest that every GM quotes the roles and publish them outside quote (after the changes he wants to make).
