actually, that's another annoying point of Haibara's suicides: she's too emo to even go through with them. It seems like the only way she tries to kill herself (even to the anime writers in movie 4) is to engage in "passive" suicides, where she doesn't so much kill herself as get herself killed, which is by far the whiniest way to try to suicide.ProfParanoia wrote: Clearly she stopped after that one time on the bus. If she still wanted to she could have gone downstairs during the night and knife open her throat. Also, what's up with all this hate about the bus scene? The last person in the world she wants to meet is sitting in front of her and was well aware of who she was. Now she has no time to straighten out her thoughts and already has an empty life. Why is it weird she'd try killing herself?
@Parkur: You could say that about every character.
shiniest way to suicide? Are you 8 or something? Like I said that was after spending a bus ride with the last person in the world she'd want to meet, and had no time to collect thoughts. Also I think because it's a show you people are desensitized by the concept of suicide, her family is dead, her life is nothing but being a robot to make a horrible drug, and now she has to worry about anything she may have gained. She has done amazing for someone in her situatin since her only real attempt was very situational, it's unreal how well she coped with her life. Also, using movies as an example for character being annoying is a pointles example.Akonyl wrote: actually, that's another annoying point of Haibara's suicides: she's too emo to even go through with them. I don't really have a problem with Haibara now that she seems to have stopped that, but that made me want to slap her when she was doing it, yes.
since you said "shiniest", I was very confused and thought you were making fun of a typo of mine somewhere. :IProfParanoia wrote: shiniest way to suicide? Are you 8 or something? 1 - When your life is like her's an you're only "pretty emo early on", you're really resilient emotionally.Akonyl wrote: [1]I stand by that because early Haibara was pretty emo (also with the whole "Ran's a dolphin and nobody would ever love an evil shark like me" thing). [2]And considering her background making her suicidal, she tried killing herself with the APTX earlier,[3] and ran to Shinichi afterwards, [4]I wouldn't be surprised if she was subconsciously wishing that he's save her again rather than actually dying in the bus as well. That's what I mean by a "whiny" method of suicide.
She said how she assumed they were going to kill her and that her only chance was to take the drug. The only reason to take the drug is so you could die a MORE painful death, why?Meme wrote: I thought she took that aptx because she was trying to kill herself.
honestly, I forget whether she intended to shrink or if she was just trying to kill herself (as the BO kills people pretty cruelly too), but if she did intend to shrink, then she was pretty suicidal anyway considering how low the chance apparently is of APTX actually shrinking someone, though it kills my case of her running off to shinichi after the fact, if that was in fact her intention all along.ProfParanoia wrote: 1 - When your life is like her's an you're only "pretty emo early on", you're really resilient emotionally.
2 - She tried saving herself with the APTX, if she wanted to kill herself she wouldn't have taken it.
3 - Was there some Ran suicide I don't remember?
4 - When you put it like that you make it sound not like "method of suicide" but more "she likes being dependent" which would mean there was more examples of the bus chase (which there really weren't in canon), Vermouth being there had NOTHING to do with her attempting suicide, and that the 345 part shouldn't have happened.
EDIT: About the spelling thing. I typed that on an iPad and typo'ed right at the start but couldn't the courser on the right spot.
[1]Well, she was chained up in a gas chamber, she thought it was die probably or die certainly. You could point out that when she explains this a second time in 176 that she said she wish she did die there because it would be peaceful, however again that was a special case due to [recurring?] nightmares about Gin brutally murdering children because of her. (In case anyone wonders why i mentioned this, it's because I thought I might as well get it out of the way now)Akonyl wrote: [1]honestly, I forget whether she intended to shrink or if she was just trying to kill herself (as the BO kills people pretty cruelly too), but if she did intend to shrink, then she was pretty suicidal anyway considering how low the chance apparently is of APTX actually shrinking someone, [2]though it kills my case of her running off to shinichi after the fact, if that was in fact her intention all along.
[3]And I wasn't trying to point out some ran suicide if you thought I was, so you're correct in not remembering it :V, [4]and the 345 part was specifically why I said "early Haibara". She was pretty emo early on, [5]but as time went on she became more likeable. That's why all these times I've been talking about her, I've been talking about early Ai.![]()
1) Fair enoughProfParanoia wrote: [1]Well, she was chained up in a gas chamber, she thought it was die probably or die certainly. [2]Well he was the only sured survivor, so going to him would be the best idea.
[3]I wasn't sure what you meant there.
[4]Well most would say her "turning point" was at the end of 345 and into 346-347.
[5]That's debatable too. I'll at least say she's way more interesting early on then post-345 passive as hell Ai. EDIT: Passive in the way she just lets Conan do w/e.
That's a weird choice, considering that Ai has much more fans than Ran XDDDDranger wrote: why is Ai even on this list, and if she is, how come Ran isn't?
3) You said ", ran to Shinichi," like it was another example but it was an extension of another and I misunderstood the form of "ran".Akonyl wrote: 3) Meant where? Because I never mentioned anything about a ran suicide until you brought it up.
