@DBs: The DBs have the only ability, where they can be 100% sure someone is town or BO with their ability (only thing that could be "bad" for them are Town/BO lovers). So it's logically that they have it harder. Since a correct result is a big hit for them.
And they don't have to randomly check for vermouth either. Since there are a lot of other roles that can check for that easier. (face-pinch, special investigate, cross-examine, house search)
And you could always randomly check people for gin in case they claimed investigate :x *cough*
How many people claim investigate to everyone? And even then it might have been Anokata...
Sure, getting a right identify is something good - until the target gets killed. If it was a townie then the BO will know about him soon too. How are the DBs supposed to get heir information? If it was a BO, it will get lynched next night. Scent or interrogate can do the same, and much easier. Yeah, it is a bit more secure - way harder to use as well.
The question is, is it worth to have 2 (or 3) players only doing that? Yeah, they are a secure group in the beginning, but in the beginning it matters least. 2-3 players is not really enough to influence the lynching much (not with the number of players that are in each game recently).
Their ability only really matters in the long run, in the later stages of the game. The problem is: Getting there.
Again, I never played as one of them, so maybe my perception is wrong. I also am probably a bit biased about them. And actually I don't mind weaker roles on the town side. The BO is not supposed to kill them after all, so the small the threat they pose, the better they fit that role.
