based on what I am reading on this thread, I'm definitly not watching it. They have ruined MK forever!

To be honest, I feel like some people in this thread (and especially in the spoiler cbox) are overreacting and give a bit of an undeserved hate to this series.
Yeah, the art is a bit iffy, but it's not ungodly awful. Hold it with the torches and pitchforks until something truly bad happens, is what I'm trying to say.

I definitely don't see how this new anime ruined MK forever, though. The manga still exists as it is, the old specials still exist. This anime is just a new addition to the family. Obviously it doesn't have to be watched, but so far they're pretty much adapting chapters 1 to 1 (with some additional details that may or may not lead to something later on)

Honestly, I don't watch or read DC for the art. It's better than it was at the start of the series, but still it's nothing special. For amazing art I pick up Mushishi or Vagabond.

I nit-picked a 10 second exchange in the second episode, but so far it's been a good adaption. They're adjusting for the change in technology, which really... eight years ago hardly anyone used taperecorders anymore. People have cellphones, skype, and laptops now. I'm glad they're making an effort to update it, otherwise it wouldn't make much sense.

One thing that worries me is that they seem to be rushing to the plot as fast as possible. My hunch is that they're doing that so they have time to get through their own material - something like Spider... a story of their own making. That could be refreshing and new, or it could be a train wreck. It's too early to say.

I hope that it doesn't open up plot holes in the DC anime universe.
I hope there's some really interesting new stories.

I want to get in and second this, as I was going to post something similar but saw you'd already gotten to it.

The only real complaints with this series so far is the retreading and the art has been wonky sometimes. What is great, though, is we'll have a definitive, all-inclusive Magic Kaito series by the end of this. All of the manga cases will be covered (my guess, anyway) and, best of all, with Gosho's input, we've had a lot of added elements that will greatly improve the central storyline. The old Magic Kaito chapters were never meant to be judged in the same way that we look at Conan now, so giving them a little bit of an update will help matters a lot.

Let's just reserve judgment over the whole thing before we see more of what the series has to offer; they've not done bad by me with concern to the added elements yet, at least.

*puts out her thoughts* OVA 4. I didn't like MK 11 as much and it wasn't because Conan wasn't in it. I think it was partly because of the voices of Phillip and his mother; something felt off. :X

The third episode was nicely done, and definitely the most interesting so far (possibly/doubtlessly due to it being a new adaptation).

I liked this episode (and its original file's story). It depicts Kaito as sort of a "rogue hero" quite well, and gives a nice contrast between what Kaito's like as a protagonist, and what Conan's like as a protagonist.

The third episode was pretty funny..and not always in the right way

Still, it was entertaining enough. I think my problem with Magic Kaito 1412 right now is not the source material, which I find perfectly fine, but A-1 Pictures, who IMO so far are not doing a very good job of adapting the manga. Awkward editing is a big problem in every episode, and the odd art doesn't help either. I hope it gets better as they get a better grasp on the series. And of course, I'll watch no matter what, because I like the source material and because I've been waiting for a real Kaito Kid anime for a long time.

Also, at this point I'm going to have to say the specials were better. Hopefully I'm proven wrong though.

Seen the 2nd and 3rd episode. While the 1st episode was just a crap, the 2nd and 3rd eps were much better. The new adaptation of the Blue B-Day was better than the one in the old anime, I think. The third episode indeed was quite interesing, I loved how Kaito acted like a wolf. Full of himself, and slightly malicious to the others. And the animation of the 3rd episode was great.

After the first episode I didn't want to watch this show. But the 2nd and 3rd eps bought me. At least for now.
