It sort of feels like an attempt of a hybrid between the Conan art and the more "generic mainstream" approach to anime art, and it doesn't really work.
I kinda wish Conan appears in EVERY episode, though. His baby face in this is hilarious.
So yeah, the art so far doesn't seem so good. At the very least, let's hope the animation will be good.
Puto doesn't want to sub the trailer since it's just 480x270, but here's a translation for anyone who wants one:
Spoiler:
Conan: Your turn's finally here, Kaitō Kid.
Kaito: I, Kaito Kuroba, will become Kaitō Kid and seek Big Jewels to find the truth behind my father's death.
Conan: This is 'Magic Kaito' - the story of a thief that likes showing off.
Kaito: I'll see myself in, my little detective.
Conan: Just make sure you're gone in thirty minutes.
Kaito: 'Magic Kaito 1412' begins on Saturday 4th October at 5:30pm!
Kaito: And I'm the main character!
Conan: I wouldn't be so sure about that.
They really shouldn't spend too much time on the origin story--again. Half an episode tops and get on with bridging this whole thing to some sort of central storyline behind his father's death. We've kind of already had the mostly-disconnected adventures series in the last iteration. This could be something quite cool if there's a sort of connective tissue keeping it all together, where you need to see every episode to stay into it.
The Phantom Lady chapters will definitely be included, but what else will there be? Are we really going to re-adapt the other chapters again? I wouldn't imagine so, but... It's hard to tell what their aim is here. We know Kid will be in Movie 19 (it'd be great if this series tied into the movie, since the last of the 24 episodes should air around the time the movie's coming around), at the very least. They just put out the old Magic Kaito anime series on Blu-ray in a nice set, so I can't imagine they're just going to try to overwrite all of that so soon.
