In my point of view it's pretty much in between but then I'm not really that cared :x
And there is no good or bad in politics :x There's stuff some people want and stuff other people want

Uhmm.. there are lot's of factors affecting soil fertility, and I think it's pretty obvious that continued use of its nutrients will cause the decline in its fertility, hence the use of fertilizer, organic or chemical. If you do some googling, you'll see in graphs that there is a trend of increase in fertilizer consumption over the years. Obviously, the demand for food rises as population increases, and with limited agricultural areas (and some are converted to residential or industrial use), land use will intensify to yield more crops. There is also the problem of decreasing arable land per population throughout the years. If you wanna go technical, try read "Soil Fertility Decline in the Tropics" by Alfred Hartmink and http://www.fao.org/ag/magazine/0306sp1.htm

Personally, I've seen the decline in the yield of vegetables within our land primarily due to soil degradation, excessive rainfall, and soil acidity. As if it's not the same as before as I was saying.
I think I interpreted what you said in your previous post as something different than what you intended. Soil fertility reduces if you use the same piece of land for several years which is why you're supposed to give it a rest after a few years to recover. People have decided to try to avoid this through artificial methods though.

Decrease in land is not a decrease in soil fertility. Excessive rainfall isn't anything new. Soil being rained away however is more of an issue now because people get rid of trees and try to use the soil left, not realising it's not well enough established (...and I am explaining this so badly for which I apologise). I count that more as a lack of soil rather than a lack of soil fertility though. Basically, I'm more specific about my definition than you, it seems.

EDIT: I don't know enough about soil acidity to comment on that, but from what I remember whether soil is alkaline or acidic tends to affect only the types of plants that can grow there, not whether they can grow there at all. I could be wrong on that though.

EDITEDIT: OMM: So, probably a year or two ago my dad confiscated my iPad from me (can't remember why) and then forgot where he put it. This meant that I ended up getting a replacement and a vow to never forgive my dad for losing the original (it was a joint Christmas-birthday present so). So today I was looking for my National Insurance Number and had no idea whereabouts it was other than "probably in the filing cabinet" so I was looking through everything in there and somehow managed to locate my original iPad when I was looking through the taxes folder. I mean, I have my original iPad back now which is just awesome, but a) why did my dad put it there of all places? b) I now have two iPads and no idea what to do with them both. If I could transfer some of the stuff from my original maybe I could then try to sell it on? I really don't know.

@Hime-chan: my mum works with kids who are in hospital here in the UK, and she's seeing more and more whose parents won't get them vaccinated because of this anti-vaxxer crap. She's spending a lot of time these days explaining to parents that the "research" is false, that vaccines won't give their kids autism, and even if it did a) there is nothing wrong with being autistic and b) it's certainly a hell of a lot better than having hyping polio. Like, you'd seriously rather your kid died in agony or was cripple for life than they have some difficulties with social cues?!

Because I have a degree in what could be vaguely translated as History and Linguistics and Literature of the English speaking world (but of our focus is on British and American civilization).

Oh geez, people are so stupid. I'm so glad that all my vaccines are up to date, at least I won't catch anything worse than a cold or a flu from the kids when I go back to work...

I also googled to see what was said about vaccination and autism in France, the only websites I found were from conspiracy theorists. The first one is an article saying that the doctor who said that vaccination caused autism was a fraud, and there are several others doing that, so I don't really know.

This reminds me, I'm going to have to get vaccinated in England, and see if it's different, 'cause I've got one coming up in a couple of years.

Well these are some of the issues I pointed out in which some researchers wants to overcome and in regards to the topic GMO. As a farmer, you couldn't stop using the land to recover, some people do, but, production is continuous. Scientists are developing varities of crops that requires less fertilizer. Some land are not tillable anymore for a particular crop as there are changes in their component brought by external factors such as environmental. Yield percentage and sustainability are important figures here, not just capacity to nurture growth. There different ways people view its definition, depending on the emphasis. Remain specific as you say you are, but does it necesarily point that my perspective is wrong?

@Hime-chan, I see. Interesting. It might be as you say that the attitude of your teacher affected your studies.

Doesn't the fault lie on your media for showing it for weeks? It's not like as if the US wants to dominate your viewing experience by forcing your broadcasters to extend its airtime.

After a certain degree, plants can't do photosynthesis anymore if the soil is too acidic. (I think <pH 3)
If the soil is acidic, heavy metals (is that the right name? XD) will get "loose" and are more mobile and get swept away. Also other minerals will be dissolved in water and be flushed out.
Worms, bugs and other micro-organism get damaged/die or can't function properly.
