Honestly, there have been weirder DW crossovers than SuperWhoLock and all that. I think a lot of the SuperWhoLock stuff is from overlapping fandoms, while WhoLock somewhat comes from the same place with them both being BBC and so sharing various connections (Moffat being the most obvious example).

OMM: Looking for desks on IKEA and Amazon, but I'm going to need to shuffle things around in my room a lot to get it to work. Plus, my books are taking up a lot of space so I might need to figure out another bookshelf at some point. My dad said not to worry about the cost so much because I'm owed rather a lot from when my sister has gotten new things and I've just been meh about it, but even so, I'd feel kind of guilty if I chose anything too expensive; I'm not used to buying things that aren't books so :x.

Anyway, Shiromi, here's me speaking, I was reading an excerpt of the first Harry Potter ^^

https://soundcloud.com/sarah-the-ninja- ... ng/s-MnSpf
“Hey! This is Sarah.”
/ˈheːj↘ ˌðɪs ɪz sɑ.ˈʀa/

“Nearly 10 years had past since the Dursleys had woken up to find their nephew on the front step,”
/nə.ˌli ˈtɛn ˌjiəz aʔ ˈpast sɪns ðə ˈdəːz.liz had ˈwo.kɛn ˈʌp tə ˈfaind ðɛː ˈnɛ.fʲu ˈɑn ðə ˌfɹʌn ˈstɛp/

“but Privet Drive had hardly changed at all.”
/bʌʔ ˈpɹai.vɛʔ ˈdɹaiv hæd ˈhɑːd.li ˈtʃẽndʒ æd.ˈɔːɫ/

To me this sounds British, with a touch of French, from the way the R in "Sarah" was pronounced and the diphthong /ai/ rising higher than other British accents, they usually only rise up to an /ɪ/.

By the way, the reason that Mangaluva sounds kinda American is because of that same diphthong. Americans tend to go much lover in their pronunciation of it: /aɛ/ or /aə/ or even /aː/. Also, "Ahm gunna ge'ya" is American slang, though it's spreading because of popculture.

I know my "gonna" is very American (most people around here sound more like "gaunnae"--i know that's not the proper phonetic accent rendering but that's how it's usually written if you're writing in accents) but I never thought of "I'm going to get you" as a particularly American thing. It's just a thing you say if you're not neddish enough for "you're claimed" to come to you first XD

Really British, with a touch of German. The dropped Rs after vowels, then lengthening the vowels is what makes it sound British, plus the use of the open O. What made it sound German is the devoiced Ds at the ends of words. For example, you said /ɡʊːt/, /ænt/, and /skɛːt/ instead of /ɡʊːd/, /ænd/, and /skɛːd/ ("good," "and," and "scared.")

Slang travels fast. :) Though there is a difference in the way you used it. In the US it's more common as "getcha", but a British equivalent would be "ge'ya", [intervocalic T>glottal stop] happens instead of [T+Y>CH] (also, D+Y>J) in the US. Thus in the US, "acha" (at you) and "diju/dija" (did you).

The bit with his eyes? Probably a reference to the Classic Doctor intros (though I think Eleven may have had his face in his intro in the late stages as well).

And now I want to do the voice-recording thing also but my voice always sounds so high-pitched when recorded ^^;. Eh.

Could be that too, but it "sounds German" because German is more famous. Also, my grandmother is German, so that biases my ears a little.

well, considering Dutch is a Germanic language as well it would have a similar touch.
That... and I'm Dutch, so I doubt I'd sound german.

Ahah, yeah, the thing is, I like to pronounce my name the French way, because that's my name? I don't really know how to explain it, I just... like my name being pronounced the way it's always been pronounced ;)

Next step in my plan: speaking as if I were a British person, I don't really care what accent I'll get.

Maybe we should have a topic with everyone recorded and the transcripts? I think it's really fun to hear people on the forum speaking ;D

Yeah, that'd be fun! It's really cool to hear how people speak - connect a voice to the screenname.

Also, I'm on a mission to get more people interested in linguistics and IPA. I think that English spelling should be updated, and that different dialects shouldn't be looked down on. I'd like spelling to become a loose phonemic transcription. Maybe like this:

ɑlso, ajm ɑn ə mɪʃɪn tu ɡɛt mor pipl̩ ɪntr̩ɛstɪd ɪn lɪŋɡuɪstɪks n̩ IPA. ɑj θɪŋk ðæt ɪŋɡlɪʃ spɛlɪŋ ʃʊd bi əpdetɪd, ænd ðæt dɪfr̩ɪnt dajəlɛkts ʃʊdn̩t bi lʊkt daun ɑn. ajd lajk spɛlɪŋ tu bikəm ə lus fənɛtɪk trænskrɪpʃən.

Alright, so on top of all the crap I have to do tomorrow, I'm also the most unprepared I've ever been since like 10th grade. I've literally got 20 sheets of binder paper, a cracked sharpener, and one good pencil that I swiped from Nini.
Mom apparently assumed I didn't need any notebooks or school supplies, and I'm usually not the person who remembers stuff so it's not like I went up to my mom like "I need school stuff too."
Nini's got like 4 notebooks and she only needs one this semester. >_>
Is it my fault? Kinda, yeah. But I'm also partly blaming Mom for not even thinking of me when she asked Nini what color notebooks she wanted especially when she asked what the difference between normal and college was.
