A new video?! (Slider Plays Video Games For Your Amusement)

Paper Mario is a 2001 RPG spinoff of the incredibly popular Super Mario franchise. Originally conceived as a Super Mario RPG sequel, it eventually became its own thing (if very much a spiritual successor) and released late in the Nintendo 64's lifetime. It also has three sequels, each released on a different Nintendo platform (Gamecube, Wii, 3DS). All of which would probably be a horrible idea to try to emulate in order to record it for the internet.

This Let's Play was recorded via post-commentary and emulation. It will be a 100% run. This includes every star piece, every badge, every optional boss and as many secrets as I can justify showing. Updates will be consistent on Mondays and Thursdays but I might try some bonus content (if mostly just showing off fun related things in the thread that I found) during Weekends occasionally.

Apologies if you watch this and it looks weird with black bars. I assume it's because I changed the resolution to make it run better with Fraps. Youtube will fix it soon enough and I'll make sure to fix it before making the vids public next time.

I maybe gave a little happy screech when I saw what game it was because I LOVE THIS GAME SO MUCH. I LOVE THE ART STYLE AND ANIMATION LIKE A POP-UP BOOK OR A PAPER PUPPET PLAY. I LOVE THE DIALOGUE. I LOVE THE CHARACTERS. I LOVE THE MUSIC. I EVEN LOVE THE DUMBASS PUNS. I LOVE THIS GAME SO MUCH OH MY GOD

Well, out of the series I think I like Thousand-Year Door the best, but that's basically saying I like Braum's chocolate milkshakes better than Braum's vanilla milkshakes. THEY'RE STILL BOTH SO GODDAMN GOOD (and on the other side of the Atlantic from me *sobs*)

Allow me to take this moment to re-affirm how much I love the music in this game. The music in this whole little area IS SO FUN AND PERKY I LOVE IT SO MUCH.

I also remember being really surprised to get to hang around with nice Goombas. They're very cute when they're not coming to kill you.

Paper Mario is actually one of my favorite soundtracks but as per everything else, it doesn't get that great for me until the 2nd half of chapter 1.

I realized after recording to episode 5 for commentary that I didn't mention the music or art design yet (or at least very little). Trying to remember to remedy that when I get the chance/s.

The design for this game is just so great, though. I love the theatrical setup for battles, with your menu being projected out of a stage light and an audience watching you fight. I love how the world is set up like paper puppets (try and tell me you didn't laugh at Kammy being TAPED into the opening sequence). I REALLY loved how Thousand-Year Door used the protagonist's paper nature for special powers, which IIRC isn't a mechanic here but was still just so charming and genius.

Plus, in general, it's just so bright and colourful and cheerful. It's what happiness looks like.

Random idea, let's ask some questions! First question,

What is your favorite Mario game?

Mine is actually Paper Mario, though I will say Mario Galaxy and Yoshi's Island are up there too.

I actually have a few that I would play constantly if I had like 100000000 hours in a day and could play all the video games that I wanted in that time XD =X

My top 3(4 XD XD =X) Mario games would be Paper Mario, Super Mario RPG LotSS, and I'd say its a tie between Yoshi's Island (although baby Mario needs to cry less=X =X ) and Mario & Luigi SuperStar Saga

Whoa I completely forgot that Star Pieces look exactly like Revives in Pokemon.

Also, I've probably mentioned this before, but Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is most definitely my favourite Mario Game. Everything about it was just so perfect and so much fun. I really need to replay it again sometime soon.

I always thought it was pretty sweet how Luigi was sitting outside his house waiting for his bro to come home.

Also, the level of fail that these villains operate is almost charming. They're just not even a little bit threatening. It's adorable.
