At the end of 817 we have a picture of Okiya and an ashtray full of cigarette butts. For someone who smokes so much, why is he never seen smoking in front of other people? maybe he's just has very refined manners

I remember reading a post once when I was a lurker that Okiya cannot be Akai because he does not smoke and it's hard to drop such a habit in a short time. I wonder if this info is of any use and if it has not already been pointed out...

Sorry for not reading the whole post but I was rereading the DC files especially the ones involving the BO and FBI. First I would like to say that I do believe Okiya is Akai, based on this. I'm not sure how to upload manga pages on to this thread but I can tell you the files, ok I just found it incredibly odd how Akai says to conan in file 602 page 15: 'don't have that kind of face, the success of this strategy is necessary...' the same way Okiya says to Haibara in file 800 page 11: 'don't make that kind of face...I won't let them get away' In my opinion the similarity between the two is too good to be true.

May I direct your attention to Chekhov's sig? It's full of links to her deductions about various people. When somebody asks she simply directs them to the appropriate link in her sig.

It's funny that I had no idea who Okiya could be until about a month ago when I started reading the forums....

Anywho, I can't recall how long it is between Akai's 'death' and Okiya's first appearance, but if Okiya is indeed Akai it's possible that he had plastic surgery. It would explain why he could wash his face and brush his teeth and not worry about the disguise slipping. It also would explain why his neck is always covered. Akai is dark-skinned and Okiya is lighter-skinned so if he only had his hands, feet, and face changed it would explain why he'd keep his neck covered and only wear long-sleeved clothes.
but my memory for detail fails me so this theory could have a ton of loopholes....

And for how Akai could have survived being shot, it has happened in real life to someone who was shot in the face a few years ago and survived. It's possible that Akai survived the same way... and would also tie into him having to get plastic surgery....

In the Sera meets Okiya in the bathroom with the comb scene, has anyone proposed the theory that Okiya was combing his hair when Sera and Ran came over, but quickly switched to brushing his teeth so he could avoid talking because he didn't have a voice changer on? He stuffed the comb up his sleeve/in his pocket to hide that he wasn't brushing his teeth earlier, thus it is a perfectly normal comb. I can't remember what theories everyone talked about anymore.

I think you and possibly some others suggested it at the time, though the switching had been put down more to handedness (and the voice changer thing had been considered as a separate thing). Other ideas included it being a wig comb iirc.
