Mom and Dad won't be back from work for a while...Ayumi...wanted to talk to you...about..the mess...
Conan stood with his hands in his pockets. "Yeah... I figured that. What is it that you want to know, Ayumi-chan. Haibara probably already said you shouldn't get involved, right?"
*looks at the floor* Ayumi...wants to appologize for the mess she made of things...if Ayumi hadn't gone running in without listening....
Yeah...*looks back up* Ai-chan said it's too dangerous, and that Ayumi should stay out of it. But...Ayumi wants to help Oniisan catch the bad guys! You have to catch them and break the spell so you can go back to Ran-oneesan...
"Ayumi-chan. You know you couldn't have known it was not going to happen. Hattori even said that you can't keep blaming yourself. " He pursed his lips and looked down. "It's not worth it."
Oniisan? Can Ayumi help, though? Maybe not directly with catching the bad guys...but...maybe Ayumi can help protect Ran-oneesan...or help find a way to break the spell....
Oh yeah, Ai-chan said we should leave the spell the way it is until we catch the bad guys, because it might help to catch them, since they'll underestimate a kid. Grown-ups always underestimate us...

Conan and company finished up their business in Fukuoka... what a trial that was!
Fortunately, they've caught a flight home. You can imagine how disappointed Genta was that he missed out on the action.
That said, it looks like today is going to be a completely normal, peaceful day for Conan, Ran, and Kogoro.

There was a murder at the mall, and it looks like it's up to the expert team of Megure, Satou, and Takagi to solve it!
As usual, it seems Kogoro, Conan, and Ran showed up. How bothersome. Either way, the "Sleeping Kogoro" won't be necessary this time, as it seems we have this case just about wrapped up.
That said, Kogoro just accused someone. Could it be he solved the case faster than me?!

It's really not uncommon, especially with kids.
There were a couple petty thefts a while ago, but we caught them.

First, let's have a natural elimination of the suspects, starting with what Conan-kun asked of Kubota-san just now for me.
From what Kubota-san tells us, which also fits with what Yamamoto-san told us, Kimura-san always locks up, even right before lunch when she's about to leave.
That means by the time this crime was underway, the doors to the shop must have been locked, which means one of three things.
1. She let the culprit in on purpose. 2. She didn't let the culprit in, and that person got a key or otherwise opened the door on their own. 3. They found some way to make her open it
Of course, we can eliminate the third option, because if she was threatened, people would notice, and we know that she was careful to never let anyone in the shop without a second employee.
"I get it. So it had to be someone who would have a key besides the workers!"
Right.
That also eliminates the first option.
The other thing I learned from Kubota-san is that the workers themselves don't have keys.
That means that the workers are out of the picture, unless they came up and convinced her to let themselves in for some strange reason. But there's a more obvious reason why none of them could be the culprit.
Now, it's pretty obvious why Kimura-san was shot in the back room: the fact that only one shot was heard indicates that it was designed especially to cause the crowd to scatter. The first shot was silenced, which I'll explain in a moment.
What's more important is how she was shot. She was shot from behind when facing the door, which slowed the bullet, which the killer eventually took.
The reason Kimura-san was killed in this position especially, is because the killer had no access to the security alarm code, like any good employee would, to stop false alarms. It would have been much easier for an employee to dispose of the victim and put in the code themselves.
The killer obviously threatened to kill her if she didn't type in the override code, then shot her anyway when she was done.
The security guard not only had access to all the keys in the store, which he could use to catch our suspect off guard, but more importantly, he had access to his own security booth.
Keibu-dono! Have your men search as much as they like for those tapes, but they'll never find them. They never existed. No one would be stupid enough to have security tapes on their person, but the video would obviously show the robber to be wearing a uniform!
The only solution is to never start recording those tapes. That's why you won't find them.
All our culprit had to do was fire off a shot, then start running for the stairs to block them off.
That's a pretty tall order, Mouri-san...

But if you're going to make accusations with such dire consequences, especially against a guard, I suggest you have some hard evidence to back them up!

While it is possible for you to perhaps dispose of a bullet or a silencing rag out the window of the room, you couldn't lose the gun. If you had hidden it, Keibu-dono's officers would have found it by now.
In Japan, the law does not permit mall security guards to hold weapons... does it, keibin? And more importantly, it doesn't allow them to commit murder!

First, let's have a natural elimination of the suspects, starting with what Conan-kun asked of Kubota-san just now for me.
From what Kubota-san tells us, which also fits with what Yamamoto-san told us, Kimura-san always locks up, even right before lunch when she's about to leave.
That means by the time this crime was underway, the doors to the shop must have been locked, which means one of three things.
1. She let the culprit in on purpose. 2. She didn't let the culprit in, and that person got a key or otherwise opened the door on their own. 3. They found some way to make her open it
Of course, we can eliminate the third option, because if she was threatened, people would notice, and we know that she was careful to never let anyone in the shop without a second employee.
"I get it. So it had to be someone who would have a key besides the workers!"
Right.
That also eliminates the first option.
The other thing I learned from Kubota-san is that the workers themselves don't have keys.
That means that the workers are out of the picture, unless they came up and convinced her to let themselves in for some strange reason. But there's a more obvious reason why none of them could be the culprit.
Now, it's pretty obvious why Kimura-san was shot in the back room: the fact that only one shot was heard indicates that it was designed especially to cause the crowd to scatter. The first shot was silenced, which I'll explain in a moment.
What's more important is how she was shot. She was shot from behind when facing the door, which slowed the bullet, which the killer eventually took.
The reason Kimura-san was killed in this position especially, is because the killer had no access to the security alarm code, like any good employee would, to stop false alarms. It would have been much easier for an employee to dispose of the victim and put in the code themselves.
The killer obviously threatened to kill her if she didn't type in the override code, then shot her anyway when she was done.
The security guard not only had access to all the keys in the store, which he could use to catch our suspect off guard, but more importantly, he had access to his own security booth.
Keibu-dono! Have your men search as much as they like for those tapes, but they'll never find them. They never existed. No one would be stupid enough to have security tapes on their person, but the video would obviously show the robber to be wearing a uniform!
The only solution is to never start recording those tapes. That's why you won't find them.
All our culprit had to do was fire off a shot, then start running for the stairs to block them off.
That's a pretty tall order, Mouri-san...

But if you're going to make accusations with such dire consequences, especially against a guard, I suggest you have some hard evidence to back them up!

While it is possible for you to perhaps dispose of a bullet or a silencing rag out the window of the room, you couldn't lose the gun. If you had hidden it, Keibu-dono's officers would have found it by now.
In Japan, the law does not permit mall security guards to hold weapons... does it, keibin? And more importantly, it doesn't allow them to commit murder!
