Why would they need to sell them in vending machines? The only reasons I could think of are:

1. They really love to automate stuff.
2. They like/love to rip them apart.
3. Japanese panties are dispensable
4. They don't feel the need to check for the quality of the clothing that they are going to wear on your most private and sensitive part.
5. Or the male's are the ones mostly buying them for their wives/girl/sister which removes a little bit of uneasiness when in the store checking out the sizes and stuff...

Either way, most those reasons are weird. And don't tell me that the item on the lower right corner is also a pantie. Or that I'm not mistaken that it's a picture of a guy.

I could be wrong but from what I've read about em (and other odd vending machines japan has), it's a combination of convenience and japanese men being easily embarrassed by buying things like condoms and used panties, so they prefer to do it without a clerk.

There are vending machines for porn, but they're in Vegas. Have you ever been to that place? It's so not subtle that there are Viagra adverts on daytime TV. I swear, all I found on the ground there was the butts of joints, fragments of girlie mags and about twelve million calling cards saying "live girls at your room within 30 minutes!"
That was at night, though. It might be better in the day, but we couldn't go out in the daytime because if you go out in daytime in summer Nevada you  instantly incinerate.
