Riddle:

Let's say that once there was a guy named Fedja. He was a driver of a truck-tanker that was carrying ethanol in different countries (C2H5OH).
Fedja liked to drink after work and decided to present himself 'free' alcohol after each ride made from ethanol he was carrying. But there was a problem: Fedja was not allowed to be around when loading/unloading was carried out, and he would be fired if seals on filled tanker are broken.
But Fedja found a way to keep some of that ethanol for himself.
Please deduct it.

(I know at least 2 ways to do that and any other way will be considered correct if it is plausible enough for ordinary human)

Note to self: Never again let Ankor write a riddle ;)
Chemistry? I'm damned, no idea.
Spoiler:
He didn't broke the seals, took a bit of the ethanol and made new seals, did he? No, that's probably not it...

does the riddle have to do with the properties of ethanol?

is the ethanol pumped into/out of the tanker by weight or by volume?

Why not?

Hm, the only time when he has access to the tankers interior is when it's empty? I would use the ethanol which is left in gas phase in the tanker after the liquid is removed - should be quite a bit in a high volume. So he needs something cold - perhaps simply ice cubes - and a container to collect the ethanol becoming liquid.
He puts the ice into the container, hangs the open container into the tanker, waits a while, drinks the fresh condensed cooled ethanol, and spits it out again since almost all ethanol (at least all ethanol that would be transported in such big amounts) is denatured so that it tastes like crap.

No chemistry in an easy approach.
No that's not it. The seals are especially made so that it is almost no way of faking them (otherwise they would be meaningless). And isn't it is too complex to do?

No it doesn't have to do with properties of ethanol it could be almost any liquid. (But if You find a way using any specific ethanol properties - that would also be correct).
Ethanol is pumped in/out by volume, but when some thousands of liters (some cubic meters) are transferred in one go 1-2 litters of difference can be considered an error of measurement.

Let's assume that he knows how to prepare some tasty alcohol from this ethanol. Or that it was during 80-s in Soviet Union and Fedja is just drinking denatured ethanol as no alcohol is available to buy.

About Your method: Are you sure that reasonable volume of the ethanol will condensate inside the container? Please consider that pure ethanol (or denatured one) can be used as fuel and it's gases are ignitable, so no one would leave the tanker without ventilating till it is no longer dangerous (low ethanol gas concentration). (P.S. If You have any other info on this topic, please provide it and answer will be counted - as I sayd any plausible solution will be correct)

Spoiler:
At night he switches the container with a similar one he prepared beforehand that has a little whole in it.

How will he seal the hole during the times he doesn't use it?

I don't think that it would be a good idea. Especially if the hole opens on the road ;)

But is making another container part of the solution?

Not part of the solutions I know, but may be there is a solution that utilizes it.

then (as long as the ethanol is pumped out from a hole on the bottom of the tanker, and he can actually put something inside the tanker):
Spoiler:
when the truck is empty, he puts a heavy box into the tanker (heavy enough that it doesn't float), with the top open. As the tanker is filled, it will fill the box, however when the tanker is empty, the box will continue to hold the ethanol and so once they leave, he can go back to the tank and retrieve the booze from the box.

Yes, correct.
This is one of the solutions I know.

Oh, nice. I actually thought the hole was on the side of the container... Though it wouldn't even change a lot. Quite clever. So, are we supposed to guess the second solution or is it Akonyl's turn?
