I have figured out the objective of BO from a scientific perspective because I think that's how Gosho would explain everything at the end (no one believes me  :-\).

Their goal is to generate mutation-prone superhumans so that people become something they weren't made to be... they request a software from Itakura for genome sequencing... because they'd need one to make mutants.  Purpose of APTX4869 is to make cells regenerate faster without kiling the person... they make mutations faster when they grow faster.  Make sense because Haibara said she never intend to make a drug to kill people... and she also said you can't go against stream of time and says ppl who go against will of god are punished (can't become what you aren't).  She also said most people in the world prolly can't appreciate the drug... make sense cause people don't wanna take risk to change and become some leprechaun..

I like the theory (it's original; and yes, plausible), except that:

1. We don't know that the Boss' hometown is in Tottori (just that the mail address has that area code)  Edit: the beginning of the mail address sounds like Tottori's area code.  And, Haibara reacted to Kurayoshi, Tottori Prefecture. /edit

2. When it's "someone that Haibara would never expect" or whatever the words were... it usually carries the meaning of "someone that Haibara thought she knew" (a close friend, someone she trusted, a relative) - this guy is hardly someone Haibara knows well.

Right, but to be exact APTX doesn't cause programmed suicide, it increases the rate of it. For every cell that dies a new one is regenerated. A cell can choose when it wants to die, it refrains from dying until it detects cell division nearby. As Sherry pointed out APTX also increases cell division.  Increase cell divisionincrease apoptosis, means net increase rate of regeneration.

ahh okay, thanks for that useful bit of bio trivia. so that could mean that even though the drug is intended to do that, maybe the new regenerated cells that the current APTX now induces are too weak, unable to function within the body while the old cells die, so the person dies in the end? hmmm. interesting.

The mail address doesn't have the Tottori area code, it just sounded like it did.  The mail address is actually #969#6261 (SHH!!! DON'T TELL ANYONE!!!!)(reference Volume 46, file 7; or File 475), the #969 part of which sounds like 0858, which is the Tottori area code (whether just for keitai mail or for the phone numbers too, I have no clue how Japan's cellphone system works)
