Akai's name "Akai Shuuichi" doesn't have to be his real name. So Sera's name could be totally different from it.

are you talking about me here?... i'm trying to be shortsentenced (as i would say) because if i'm not i won't be able to get a decent post written or forget half of my ideas...  so i would say i'm not ... at least not in the last time  :-\

b2t: right now, does the name of her really matter on this concern. we know its similar to akais (sayla mass)(i'm just repeating what others say due to my lacking knowledge to say anything with deeper meaning her ), but for all we know she could just have changed her name...

personnally... right now it only seems to be sure that her primary target of investigation is Edogawa Conan... but for what purpose is up to our imagination... some reasons i can come with or i can at least repeat (will not take the credit )
a)maybe she is akais sister and tries to find out about his last days but then as stated by someone above why does she investigate conan because his involvement is an unspoken undocumented secret as far as protection for him goes, anything would be a too high chance of a almost certain overkill for him and everyone around him
b)she is akais sister and bourbon... but then again... why conan? ... (its same if i think about the okiya=bourbon theory.. for what reason would bourbon come near the prof/ai or in kudo-kuns house)
c)she is akais sister and just can't belief he walked right into such an obvious trap and wants to investigate... but then again... how come she s so interested in conan?
d)she happens to be akais sister but has no idea he's dead and just wants to investigate (a) case(s) in Japan and needs an inconspicuous character like conan (whom she knows frome the newspapers/online news etc only) to investigate unsuspiciously
e)she just happens to resemble akai a lot and has some other purpose in dealing with conan
f)... hm... and that's what i meant above... there were other ideas but i forget them while writing the latter down

Therefore, when you posted your reply, its title was "Re: Theory: Sera Masumi Is An FBI Agent" (the same)

When someone is browsing the main page of the forum, the first portion of the most recent post of each board is shown. In this case, it would have shown "Re: Theory: Sera Masumi"

Given that Sera's full name (and gender) was the "big reveal" of the entire Jeet Kune do case, it's a huge spoiler to anime-only fans. (Masumi is a decidedly female name - parallel would be that you wouldn't find men/boys named Mary)

Therefore I took the liberty of editing your post title so that it would not spoil anyone who hadn't already been spoiled by the original post and subsequent replies.

She has so many skills that it is probable if she's an FBI agent or BO's member.
But I think she's Shinichi's childhood friend.
Shinichi's parents brought 7 years old Shinichi to America for vacation. Shinichi met Sera there and they become friend. Then someday Shinichi saved Sera from some kid who bullied Sera with his 'Sherlock Holmes wanna be' style. Sera begin to admire Shinichi. Then the time comes when Shinichi must go back to Japan. Sera promised to herself that she will meet again with Shinichi someday and she want to be detective too, just like Shinichi. That's why Sera was attracted to Conan because he resemble her lost childhood friend and Conan feel he know Sera.
Is it good enough?

You've pretty much nailed that theory to death. Very nice analysis, while yes, there are some other things that need to be considered if some of the points do not happen. But, they're still plausible in some way. (Even if it is predictable...)

For me though, I'm trying hard not to speculate too much on Sera until we know more about her.

I trust Conan's words that she can be trusted. That's as much as I'm going for at the moment. Although, it's still quite annoying that Subaru is just going "ho hum" when he's MIA...

as you said she is much too young to be an agent of some kind... but i think she is also too young for a BO executive as well... sherry doesn't count because she was an important figure in the science department and not because she was a proffesional killer... i think someone who's approx 17 years is lacking expertise for the job as an BO expertise... its one thing to be a good detective... but as of what we have seen of BO executives they all are able to shoot and drive car|bike etc...

Nice analysis Eizo. Though, Sera's age hasn't technically been released yet. I know she transfered to Shinichi's and Ran's high school, but she could also be lying about her age to "further her investigation." But if she ends up as either a FBI or BO agent, I'd be happy with it as it finally signals some kind of plot movement.

Sera may look somewhat similar to Akai but I it was never mentioned that Shuu has a Sister and by the way we still don't know if he is dead

So if Sera is a BO Member or an FBI Agent she could find hints about Akais whereabouts
