It seems so since they're still complaining about Ran's overexposure even though it's no where near as important as it was at the beginning of the show.

But, now a lot of people (including some Ran fans) are bothered by the way Gosho uses her and it feels just as bad due to that.

She's been used the same way to drop hints and things since day 1. The only really major change in Ran's character over the course of DC I can think of right now is less violence and jealousy and more crying when Shinichi comes up as a topic. My feeling is that Ran seems overexposed right now because of the long London case which has temporarily spiked the level of Ran-ness. Also people who don't like Ran seem to be more sensitive to her appearances than people who feel neutrally about her in my experience.

I'm more or less neutral toward Ran. I chose Akemi simply because, despite she and Ran being similar, imo, the story arc Akemi has been involved in (alive or only mentioned in flashbacks) have made her much more interesting to me than someone who is constantly around. I don't dislike Ran, and would actually choose her over several other characters.

I like Akemi too. But somehow she is portrayed strangely.
She is shown to be smart. Like when she was hiding the taped for Haibara.
But then again, she was simply shot by Gin, and she didn't seem to have made any countermeasures against that O.o" Which makes her look kind of "dumb" :V And that's contradicting.
Tho, the it was at a early stage where akemi was killed. So maybe gosho didn't gave much thought about it.

I like Akemi too. But somehow she is portrayed strangely.
She is shown to be smart. Like when she was hiding the taped for Haibara.
But then again, she was simply shot by Gin, and she didn't seem to have made any countermeasures against that O.o" Which makes her look kind of "dumb" :V And that's contradicting.
Tho, the it was at a early stage where akemi was killed. So maybe gosho didn't gave much thought about it.

well,I don't think she was dumb,Gin is really smart(like Conan and Akai),he always have plans when it comes to kill somebody
Akemi is smart,but alone she can't do anything against them,I don't know what countermeasure would have saved her life 
Ran have many contradictions in her personality,which are more visible (she's strong but she cries a lot,she's nice but can be aggressive too...)

I think Gosho did a good job with Akemi,I like the way she's portrayed(she looks like my older sister^^)

Well, I thought she was "not so smart" portrayed in the first chapter where she appeared (and also died). Like asking Gin "you gave me those "sleeping pills" and the giant died, why?" Or something similar... like, "Oh God! You guys kill people?!". Well, that's what I mean with her being portrayed "stupid". I do like Akemi too, and I like how she is shown later Just not the chapter where she died :V Since it doesn't fit with the other times she was shown imo.
