I'm stuck. Ran is awesome, but Ai is easily my favorite character on the show. One part of me wants them both Conan and Ai to stay small and grow up together, but then my heart would break for Ran if something like that happened. I think the only way I could be satisfied is if they broke the story into two different timelines lol.

"SHI-NI-CHI!!!! Why didn't you tell me about this?!?!"

"You've been going out with Ai-chan, have you?!?!"
Haibara turned at the sound of her name. "What?"
Ran grabbed Conan by the collar, and, with amazing strength, threw him out the window.

"Wow," complimented Haibara as she watched Conan soar out the window, "You're pretty strong."
"Thanks," said Ran simply, and turned to leave.

I'm not good with lengthy rants , so here's my short opinion on the matter

At first I was all for ShinxRan cause I felt sympathetic for Ran's ignorance on the situation;
But over time, Ai has really grown on me as one of my favorites on the show. I love all the scenes where she nags/criticizes Conan, they are just priceless haha. But her secret interest in Conan just intrigues me immensely. It's actually kinda funny how he is just oblivious during those moments. It's what makes CoxAi so fascinating though! Don't get me wrong, I love ShinxRan; but as said earlier, the plot just seems more compelling with CoxAi.

I'm sorry but from what I read do you guys have something against Japanese girls?  Sorry if I misunderstood (I'm not that good at English afterall xD). I kinda get the feeling that everyone thinks Japanese girls are clinging, annoying and weak...if that's your opinion, I hope you'll keep it to yourself.  I also hope your opinion changes when you meet some cool Japanese girls in real life ^^.

Eisuke is planning to join the CIA soon and he'll probably vanish like the rest of his family since he wants to go against the B.O.  Ran will have no luck when it comes to guys, she's a main female character in Gosho's universe .

Ran likes Shinichi best when he's doing his detective deduction.  "Even though he's an idiot, he's cool and dependable." and her reaction to the baseball players during that "One evil in 53000" case.  Also during Desperate Revival she just lets him go.  The reason she cries is because she might never see him alive again.

By Conan x Ai scene she's talking about the scenes where they care about each other and risk their lives for each other (while you're thinking pure blown Gosho romance).  Conan might not like Ai that way, but you can't ignore the fact that there are moments between them (one sided or not).  If Shinichi isn't as slow as a snail when it comes to his emotions he should have noticed something by now (Yukiko noticed right away).

I'm no mod or anything (so you don't have to listen to me) but Intotrouble and Soratothemax.  Can you guys relax a bit before you start character bashing (if you haven't started already?).  Thanks in advance!

I'm not character bashing. I do not hate Ran. I really like her! But I think she looks better with Eusike. I don't think she looks good with Shinichi because of her weaknesses. Each character has their own strengths and weaknesses, and hers just aren't good with Shinichi to me. I feel Eusike would be better with her, even if he knows Shinichi is Conan, it doesn't mean they won't look good together. I can name Haibara's weaknesses as a character as well, and have named them (http://animejournal.diaryland.com/ranaidc.html). I just feel that regardless of Haibara's flaws, Conan can deal with Haibara's weaknesses in a long-term relationship better than he can Ran's. I feel Eusike can handle Ran's weaknesses better in a long-term relationship than Shinichi can. As for Ran's personality as a character, thats a whole different story.

I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with Japanese girls, but how they are PORTRAYED in most anime. Thats not how ALL Japanese girls act. My cousins are Japanese! It's just like in some shows, people portray black ppl to be ghetto, but that doesn't mean they are (I'm black).  Also, I'm distinguishing the difference in personalities based on cultural difference, whether it be a good thing or a bad thing. Ran has a different cultural background and life than Haibara which contributes to her being the type of girl she is. Japanese girls are often looked at as positive, optimistic, and a little clingy and crybaby-ish, not saying that they are in real life, but are made that way in many animes, not all. American Girls are either always villains, cold, or sarcastic and mean, but they are also portrayed to be funny. It is a common stereotype in animes, and how they are represented.

I do not want anyone to think I hate Ran as a character, I just feel her romantic choice is not the best decision for her, considering her reaction and feelings to certain circumstances, and even based on her birthday. I feel she needs to be with someone just as sensitive as she is. Shinichi will take care of her, but not fulfill her needs emotionally in the long run, and may neglect her for a case (as she often says, "when he is on a case, he doesn't notice anything else.") Haibara can handle the neglect better, and will often do her own thing, but still can work with Shinichi well as a partnership, which also goes well in relationship.

This may NEVER happen, but I feel it would be the best if it WERE going in that direction. I feel destiny does not decide fate, and anything can shake up a bit.

OMG same! Ai can actually be really sweet at times, like when she was scared of getting electric shocks,awwwwwwww! well me thinks conan belongs to ai and shinichi belongs to ran but i want more conan and ai friendship in the series coause they r soo sweet. shinichi will most likely be with ran unless she dies and i'm 100% fine with that (after all they were made for each other)i'm shinran fan but i will be sooooooooooooo dissapointed if ai and conan don't stay really really close.

Thankfully the manga was released in my country, its too bad and what a waste, that the story is not related to the original works..

Because that is the only scene where ai admitted her feeling to conan, either on the special volume or the original volume..
