Re: Key Points of Interest that I Found Significant
Well, I'd love to check a better scan, but based on the one I posted, I think the 澤 kanji for sawa is pretty much what we can read in the manga, though I admit I can't read it stroke by stroke. The 黒 (kuro) in the anime is also doubtful, since it looks a little smaller than the rest of the kanji, so it might be only the left radical.
I also agree that, even if those are the names in the book, that doesn't mean they're Gin and Vodka's names. But they could be, or at least they could have written them.

Please do, it sounds very interesting.Chekhov MacGuffin wrote: Somwehere there was a list of everything the animators messed up. I forget if it was on Holmes forum of here. The most obvious thing they missed was the pictures of Vermouth's pictures on Jodie's wallboard. In the manga you can see Jodie took pictures of Vermouth's pictures so they didn't quite match up at the edges. If the thread is on DCTP and not somewhere else, I'll try to track it down.

Re: Key Points of Interest that I Found Significant
Update: After consulting someone, I'm going to say that I think any reading of "Kurosawa" here is just forcing the kanji present to fit the perception but not so much the reality. If we can't even get the name "Jin" to come up anywhere either (despite it being linked to "Kurosawa" by all accounts), I'm going to say the translator from before had it right the first time.Dashin wrote: Well, I'd love to check a better scan, but based on the one I posted, I think the 澤 kanji for sawa is pretty much what we can read in the manga, though I admit I can't read it stroke by stroke. I'll repeat, and I don't see the need to come up with a veredict about it. No one's gonna get convicted for it. From what I can see in the scan I have, which is horrendous, the kanji might be that of sawa because of the general shape, the æ°µradical to the left, the vertical line pointing downwards from the rightmost radical and the upper portion of that same radical (which is actually half hidden by Conan's face). There're a lot of kanji that could fit that description, though, so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

We don't have to come to a verdict, but if we want to employ our critical faculties reasonably, we should be skeptical until given a reason to think otherwise. I'm not convinced by the shapes whatsoever because, to me, they don't look any closer today than they did five years ago. As you mentioned, that could be a lot of other kanji, and I personally believe the "kuro" in "kurosawa" came purely out of the actual meaning of "kuro" and its association with a certain organization. Fans are creative that way. Well, except for the "Jin" part. They didn't try too hard on that one.Dashin wrote: I'll repeat, and I don't see the need to come up with a veredict about it. However! This is why diverging opinions exist. If someone would like to scan in a large copy of the original and maybe outline the kanji to give the rumor a bit more credence, that'd be nice.

Re: Key Points of Interest that I Found Significant
If one would have read the previously mentioned linked thread, one would have noticed this argument was redundant:

I would like to have the names in the guestbook from the mermaid case cleared up. The guestbook appears in volume 28-8 or file 281 on page 12, or episode 222-224 about 7/12s of the way in. What are the names written next to Shiho's in the book and what is written above them?
Taking a stab at the transcription of the characters...
The name on the left, only partially visible in the manga, appears to be 土井 (family name = Doi?, given name = Natsuki? è

A good question, except I never see such messages as The Hero. If someone did implement it, it wasn't Jd-chankunshi.Abs. wrote: @Jd-

It's not too new. I seem to recall that message from a couple of months ago when I bumped an old thread.Jd- wrote:A good question, except I never see such messages as The Hero. If someone did implement it, it wasn't Jd-chankunshi.Abs. wrote: @Jd-

What's more likely is that it's always been there but few people ever have a reason to see it.Kor wrote:It's not too new. Taking a stab at the transcription of the characters...
The name on the left, only partially visible in the manga, appears to be 土井 (family name = Doi?, given name = Natsuki? 菜月)
In the anime, the name on the left looks like (工 or 土)井(菜 or 莱, or a fancy 菊 or some character with 糸 or 釆)
The name on the right in the manga and anime looks like 魚塚三郎 (family name = ?, given name Saburō?)
The second of the two characters above the name on the left is 拾.
The rest of the characters I am unable to read. I hope someone can help fill out the missing characters and suggest potential romanizations of the names.

I doubt the words above the names mean much, plot-wise, because they are the random markers that they chose (for the mermaid arrow charm thingy).
You also want to combine the manga page you provided with a screencap of the same scene from the anime..
The name on the far left becomes something like: 黒澤(unreadable last character)
The Wikipedia page on Gin goes as far as to complete it thus: 黒澤陣 I'm guessing that's from the interview 96383 referred to in this post: index.php?topic=1835.msg47700#msg47700
Edit: Forgot the possible romanizations. Izuka Saburou + Kurosawa Jin
Abs. wrote:Totally my mistake. It's the whole reading from right-to-left vs. left-to-right thing. I said left because I meant right. GrinChekhov MacGuffin wrote:You said far left above...Abs. wrote: The 黒 is from the anime. It's partially cut off, but you can see it on the very right hand side of the page. The 澤 is from the manga page you provided here at the beginning of this thread.
To make it clear: it's the name on the right-most side of the page I'm talking about.
Jd- wrote: Teppei (translator) investigated this when we did the case. The Jin Kurosawa rumor isn't true, from the anime or manga (we compared both).
No, it has always been there.Abs. wrote: Loving the anti-necromancy red message ;D Is it new?![]()
