Ugh. My head hurts.

Volume Six
Spoiler: Shonen DCTP ch2
JDC East HQ

Not letting her opponent rest for even a second, Kleene swung her steel fist, jamming it into Schill*k's surprisingly smug face. She pistoned her arm again and rearranged the swarthy features into a bloody mask of split flesh and broken teeth. The Ayumi die-hard fan toppled backwards, and in the instant he tottered off balance, Kleene lunged for the assassin's dagger.

Her fingers closed on the sharp blade. Sweat poured down her face as she ignored the searing pain and wrestled for the knife. Schill*k outweighed her for a good thirty pounds, and Kleene fought to keep her death-hold on the weapon.

Schill*k twisted the dagger, forcing Kleene's wrist backwards on itself. Pain ripped up her arm, her knees buckled for an instant. The groan that whistled on her teeth brought a smile on her opponent's already ruined face.

"I'll kill you! You mold...!" he yelled, blood spraying from what was left of his mouth. Kleene heard him, from someplace deep inside her agony, as she and Schill*k exchanged vicious punches. Her bones crackled as if she'd been rammed by a bull.

"Heh, that all you got? I'm not even using 50% of my riceball power, you damn loli!" she bluffed through a haze of desperation as Schill*k landed a savage kick on her stomach.

Crashing her free fist into Shill*k's Adam's apple, she felt the assassin's tendons give way, watched the killer's eyes momentarily roll back in pain. And then he was smiling at her, even as he drove his fist down like an anvil onto Kleene's skull.

Floating riceballs danced before Kleene's eyes as she sank to her knees. Her hand clasped empty air. She saw the dagger swiveling toward her head. Willing her body, she tried to jacknife forward, to go for the weapon or at least keep herself a moving target.

But before she can move, a man appeared behind the assassin. Using both hands, the newcomer crashed a rock the size of a melon against the back of Schill*k's head.

Kleene blinked hard. Wondered if her vision was jarred by the blow she'd taken to the head. She focused her eyes. The man, or rather, the boy standing over Schill*k was bluekaitou1412.

Kleene launched herself at bluekaitou and slammed him against the wall.

"I thought I told you guys to get out! What the hell are you doing here?" she snarled.

"Saving your life, for God's sake." bluekaitou's black eyes flashed into hers. "Some way to thank me, by the way."

"Come on now, Kleene." Another girl walked out from the shadows. "A simple thank you will do."

"You came too, Phoenix?!" She then looked down on her feet, and with a tsundere-like blush (WTF?!) she pouted. "I didn't need your help!"

"Oh?" bluekaitou grinned. "It's not like I wanted to, ya know. Phoenix literally dragged me here, saying she don't want her love-rival getting killed by anyone but her or something. Akonyl also asked me to help--"

"Akonyl?!"

"Yup. He said he'd come here himself, but that'll piss you off, after all you did to save him and the rest." bluekaitou sighed. "Really, tsunderes like you three are difficult to comprehend."

"Who are you calling tsundere?!" Phoenix shook bluekaitou, but abruptly glanced at one direction and smiled. "And it looks like Schill*k had some filthy companions, hiding this whole time."

"You don't have to compliment us by calling us filthy, lady." Two weird-moustached men appeared in a puff of smoke. They were dressed in identical silver coat-and-ties. Their facial expressions are that of professional hitmen, and they carry with them specialized pistols designed to shoot bullets with the force of a shotgun.

"Only two? That won't do. Well, I guess it's time for me to dissipate... er... I mean, disappear." bluekaitou yawned loudly. "Oi Phoenix, next time learn how to reach the JDC HQ by yourself, will ya? Man, you and Akonyl are such pains in the ass, ordering me around. I mean, if you wanna help a riceball that badly why not go by yourself? Hell, you're not even JDC members, so why do I care?" he walked lazily towards the exit.

"Oi, wait!" Phoenix shouted at bluekaitou. "That was your only role?! That was it?! What the hell, you just appeared to act cool and complain in this story--"

Kleene stopped her in mid-sentence with a bonk on the head. "He's the freaking author, he can do what he wants. Stop breaking the 4th wall, dammit." She clenched her fist. "And I think we kept these bastards waiting long enough."

"No, no, ladies. take your time." One of the weird-moustached men jeered. "You might want to say your prayers too."

"Right back at you, moustache man." Phoenix covered her fist with fiery flames. "Let's get this party started, Kleene!'

Spoiler: No Parking
Parkur owned the stage. As he crooned "What A Wonderful World" he could feel the warmth of the audience caress him like a generous lover. They were with him, this bar crowd, and they applauded long and hard as he finished the first set.

He glanced over at Dus, the owner of the bar, who kept promising him a nighttime gig. If today didn't convince his boss that he could keep an audience riveted to their seats, drinking and applauding all night long, nothing could.

Parkur loved singing almost as much as he loved trolling. Music was his passion. The language of his soul.

As the applause at last faded, he slid onto a barstool. As usual, a small plate of vinegary boquerones, a chunk of ham and cheese, and a glass filled with Chinese wine were waiting for him. Kain knew his tastes.

But as he tossed a piece of ham in his mouth, it was a slim mustachioed bartender who came from the kitchen balancing serving plates of garlic mushrooms, fried cheese, and cumin chicken.

Parkur never seen him before in his life. "Where's Kain? She was here earlier."

"Sick." The man shrugged his slim shoulders. "Female problems." He nodded toward Parkur's empty shot glass. "Another?"

"Why not?" Parkur thought, pushing the glass across the bar.

A woman over the audience sauntered over just then, sliding a hand along his arm, standing a little too close as she told him in a breathy voice how much she enjoyed his singing. He never saw the bartender refill his glass, nor did he see him flick a droplet of liquid from a tiny silver flask that was swiftly repocketed.

He only knew that the woman smiling so invitingly into his eyes wore a low-cut red dress and an intoxicating perfume.

Parkur drank deeply. Life was good.
Spoiler: Cruise Ruse
QUEEN MARY 2

Conia threw open the doors of his balcony and watched the moonlit Atlantic roll by. There were two full days remaining before the ship reached Southampton and he intended to savor them both.

This was the trip of a lifetime. His wife had often daydreamed of taking a cruise on a luxury liner, but this, the Queen Mary 2, was a ship beyond anything either of them could have imagined.

He loved watching Yuriko sigh with delight over the high tea every afternoon that came complete with musical accompaniment. Loved hearing the excitement in her voice as she announced it was nearly time for their dinner with candlelight. Loved holding her close on this balcony every evening after they'd overeaten meals to die for.

He'd decided to splurge for this trip to mark their sixth wedding anniversary. They were treating themselves to six nights at sea, followed by a week in London. Yuriko could scarcely contain her joy.

Their life in Tokyo was comfortable, but their time off from their JDC missions was spent on match-making and cursing aliens. Now that they had escaped from the organization-- it does not tolerate early retirement-- unscathed, all was going well.

Conia thought about the lonely people, loveless entities scattered all around the globe. Here, looking out from the balcony at the endless expanse of inky sea and sky, he could almost forget about his duty as a cupid. Almost.

Still, it tugged at him. Some days he fantasized about the two of them simply packing up their things and traveling the globe together for months at a time, tending to the most loveless people adrift in the world. Maybe someday...

A knock at the cabin door drew him back inside. Yuriko was brushing her teeth so he opened the door to find their five-year-old daughter, Koihime, grinning up at him, a glass of milk in her right hand.

"I got the milk, Pop. Now I just need a good-night kiss for me to go to sleep."

"Good for you." Conia said, smoothing back Koihime's long brown bangs. "That's better. I can see your beautiful eyes now." He leaned down and kissed his daughter's cheek.

"We only have two days left on the boat" Koihime sighed as she sat on the bed. "Don't you wish we could all stay here forever?"

He chuckled. "You don't really mean that. You have plenty of adventures waiting for you the rest of your life."

''I guess" she shrugged, then brightened. "So do you, Pop."

"Of course" Conia began. Suddenly a breath of ice wisped down his back and vanished. "Now what was that?" he thought.

With a shiver he glanced at the open balcony door where the sea flowed in foamy caps. But the sudden chill had gone.

Yuriko emerged from the bathroom and Koihime ran into her arms. By the time Conia tucked his daughter in her bed, he'd forgotten about the odd sensation. He'd forgotten about everything but the gentle roll of the sea and the precious days ahead with his family.

TOKYO, JAPAN

Half a world away, a computer secreted in a building owned by the Japan Domination Committee pinpointed Conia and Yuriko's whereabouts. Within moments, a cavalry of bears stationed in Wales set out to greet the Queen Mary when it docked on Southampton.
