ayw, this is actually getting creepy  ;)
sand.. maybe. I know black and white sand (and according to wikipedia there is green sand as well, even though it's not really what I would call sand), there is lots of it  and it's usually near water...
let's see what sstimson says

it can be found in White, Black, and Green ( Possible other colors but those are the most common )
okay just found this-"in Jordan"- this makes my tea impossible- unless someone is crazy engough to throw the leaves into the river???

Sayumi wrote: Okay, I kinda cheated... i just typed in white, green and black at google (just for fun, I didn't expect it to come up with anything proper...) and it actually came up with an answer I like quite a bit... even though I'm not sure if it fulfills the "more than stars" condition
Spoiler:
tea??? (I didn't know that there is white tea, but apparently there is)
Sayumi, funny, our minds seem to work in a very similar way. I also googled the three colors, finding "tea", but didn't suggest it as an answer as I doubted it would fulfill the "more than stars" condition. My previous guess "moss" didn't do it either.

Yeah, white tea is delicious! A bit expensive, though.

The only other things I can think of are
Pebbles, stones, or sand, or an element of the periodic table,...

Well done. Tow of you got it. but lets wait to see if the other tow figure it out as well. Again well done. Do you want another riddle?

sstimson, I must confess your riddle stumped me. But it is a very good one, and the answer fits very well, even When near water, more than stars.

I think maybe some of you have seen this Riddle posted some time ago, by me! Actually, one of my first posts. And seeing that this thread has become very "hot" with all the riddles coming and going, I thought maybe I should revive it.

Here it goes:

"All dwelling in one house are strange brothers three,
as unlike as any three brothers could be,
yet try as you may to tell brother from brother,
you´ll find that the trio resemble each other.
The first isn´t there, though he´ll come beyond doubt.
The second´s departed, so he´s not about.
The third and the smallest is right on the spot,
and manage without him the others could not.
Yet the third is a factor with which to be reckoned
because the first brother turns into the second.
You cannot stand back and observe number three,
for one of the others is all you will see.
So tell me, are the three of them one?
Or are there but two? Or could there be none?
Just name them, and you will at once realize
that each rules a kingdom of infinite size.
They rule it together and are in it as well.
In that, they´re alike, so where do they dwell?"

Now I ask you, where do they dwell and what is the kingdom they rule?

Oh, yeah, and also the explanation of why the order of the brothers is that way.
And this:
Yet the third is a factor with which to be reckoned
because the first brother turns into the second.
You cannot stand back and observe number three,
for one of the others is all you will see.

why?

Okay... the order:
Holmes wrote: The first isn´t there, though he´ll come beyond doubt.
The second´s departed, so he´s not about.
The third and the smallest is right on the spot,
The kingdom they rule:
Spoiler:
time
Holmes wrote: And this:

why?
Spoiler:
Okay, future turns into past.  The past is the only one you can observe because the future is uncertain and the present-well, you can't stand back and evaluate it because it will be over before you know it.
Where do they dwell...I'll have to think about that-I'll post it as soon as I got it.

EDIT: Still not sure - I don't get how you could nail it down to one specific place/object, since time and space are totally different things (assuming that "where they dwell" is a place/object). My guess would be that it is something that represents time (and thus past, future and present) like a calender or a clock. At least these kinda make time "visible" even though the three don't really "dwell" there.

Haha, thanks for the warning.
How about...
Spoiler:
...beans. In a ball it would be a bean bag!
Did you also make up
"Black, white, green
in water, more than stars?"

...ironically,
Spoiler:
Isn't it the second one that's tea? It might just be that it's recent in my mind, but it definitely seems to fit, including the little tea balls

Where they dwell
Spoiler:
My first guess would be the mind, as time is really just in your head.

Spoiler:
Tea was a good answer, how about pepper/peppercorns?

That makes me think of this:

I come in green, red, and orange.
I speciate into two distinct classes.
I can be rolled in many Spanish/Latin American dishes.
In English, don't mistake my existence for yours.
In Somalia, I'm the latest cliche. (can't be bothered to put the accent on)

Hint
Spoiler:
Conan fans have seen me recently.
Hint 2
Spoiler:
Hint 1 is severely misleading.
Hint 3
Spoiler:
While I can be found in Asia, I am much more common in Europe and the Americas.
Hint 4 (This should do it)
Spoiler:
Four teams of speakers present in Japan. Two national teams, a team from China, and a team from Italy. I am on the Italian team.
