Volume Five
Spoiler: Something Different
His adrenaline pumping, Akonyl ducked his head and climbed out of the window. Rain slashed at his face. Phoenix was halfway down the street, yet he hesitated and reached a hand back for Abs. But as Abs. struggled to position himself on the windowsill, the door burst open and shots rang out. With a grunt, Abs. toppled, blood dripping crimson from his face, splattering across Akonyl's hand.

"Run, Akonyl!" Phoenix screamed as horror rocketed through him. He hurtled down to the street below, nearly slipping on the wet pavement. He glanced up for an instant to see Kleene kick Abs. lifeless body aside and take aim.

Akonyl ducked as a bullet pinged the brick beside him. He bolted after Phoenix as another shot rang out and the riceball charged after them. "Traitors!"

They ran through the driving downpour and rounded the corner, Phoenix nearly colliding with a woman battling her way down the street with an umbrella and an armful of groceries.

"Watch out" pofa yelled, but Phoenix had no breath to apologize. She catapulted between two buildings and Akonyl followed, gaining on her as she plunged across the street, dodging traffic as horns blared at them. Suddenly, a gunshot blew out the rear tire of a large truck, sending it careening straight toward Akonyl.

He threw himself forward and landed sprawled on his side against the curb. Phoenix grabbed his arm and he scrambled to his feet. Kleene was barreling toward them, gun in hand, and people were scattering. "I know what you did to Akonyl, Phoenix. You hypnotized him" she said. "Well, if he can't be mine, I'll make sure no-one else can!"

"Don't listen to her, Akonyl. This way!" Phoenix tugged him toward a bus discharging passengers ten feet away. They scurried around piles of bagged garbage and forced their way up to the steps, wedging past others trying to get on. Akonyl caught a glimpse of the riceball through the rain-smeared window-- she was running hard now, straight for the bus.

The doors hissed closed. Kleene took aim.

"Everybody down! There's a psycho with a gun back there!" Phoenix yelled. An old woman screamed. "Move it, now!" she shouted at the driver.

Swearing, the driver-- Eve-- swerved into traffic. A bullet screamed into the bus's back end as it lumbered away from the curb, sending tall sprays of water in its wake. The giant windshield wipers raced to keep pace with a torrent of rain dousing the city.

"Call your dispatcher" Phoenix directed the driver breathlessly. Akonyl saw there were tears on her face. "Tell him to send an ambulance to the East Harem Center on JDC Avenue. A man's been shot."

She looked at Akonyl, but neither of them spoke as the bus mumbled through traffic. They both knew it was too late. Abs. was dead.

Dazed, Akonyl wondered if he looked as pale and shaken as she did. His heart was still thundering in his chest. He couldn't wrap his mind around what had just happened.

He wondered who was the girl chasing them. She knew him. He also felt like he had seen her before, but he can't remember. He tried to, but failed miserably. He felt like some patches of his memories had been erased-- all he knew was he needed to protect Phoenix, his one and only...

...and yet, as he looked at the direction where they left the mysterious girl, his heart yearned for something different, something he wouldn't even think of...

A very moldy riceball.

Moral Lesson: This is not funny. Not funny at all.
Spoiler: Fantasy Fanfare
Part One

An excerpt from Abs.: The Abominable Autobiography

09/02/10

I went to a girly boutique today to find Phoenix's gift.

They had fancy soaps, skin creams, and perfumes.

Then this saleslady named KaitoGirl95 runs at me with an atomizer!

I tried to run, but I tripped over a basket of luffas, crashed through a moisturizer display, and fell into a pile of potpourri sachets...

Then she puts me in a half nelson, hoses me down with body wash, and force-feeds me bath oil beads...

Now I smell like a coconut-cucumber-melon-vanilla-cherry-lemongrass-mango breeze...

With just a hint of plumeria, I believe.

Moral Lesson: Never ask your sister for a story plot.

Part Two

Edogawa4869 had joined a charity baseball exhibition game that festival day, its purpose to raise money for victims of animal abuse a very reasonable excuse for him to skip class.

He was not at his best today. He was still sore from sliding into home yesterday and slamming his hip hard against the plate, but he would do anything just to have a day-off from seatworks.

He sat on the boards of a half-dozen local charities, his girlfriend perched proudly just behind the dugout with his three pals as their team's opponent ran out onto the field.

He didn't notice the fan in the blue jersey who ambled in with his cardboard tray of juice and pizza and squeezed into an empty four rows behind his friends. He would never know that the name of that fan was Tommy. He wouldn't even know that someone sent that particular fan to do a job on the spot.

Edogawa waved to the cheering crowd as he ran out onto the field.

When the fatal shot rang out near the end of the first inning, everyone thought it was the crack of Edogawa4869's bat.

Moral Lesson: The JDC watches you-- and your friends. Always.

Part Three

"This time, I'm really going to learn how to ride that bicycle!"

nomemory, an amnesiac onion, decisively dragged herself towards the top of a hill-slope, where her mountain bike is waiting for her.

Once on top and after resting for a few minutes, she stood up, gazed at the sky, and took a deep breath. She was ready.

"Balancing on two wheels is just as easy as balancing on two fee-- WHOA!" Unfortunately, her very tiny legs of onion-istic properties got tangled up, and she tripped. "OOMF! What the--" She started rolling downhill, her round onion self bouncing and swerving. "HEEEELLLLPPPP!!!!"

Finally, with a thud, she collided on a huge oak tree on the foot of the hill. With a sigh she murmured to herself "I'd say that crossed the line from ironic coincidence to evil omen."

Moral Lesson: Now where did I put that Officer Parkur story?

Part Four

"Akonyl, obviously, I'm not the one having the affair!" Kleene Onigiri spoke to her husband with an air of resilience. She was sitting in front of her computer, with an e-mail account opened up in the internet browser.

"I sure hope not." Akonyl stared at the computer, arms crossed.

"It's this other girl named Kleene Onigiri-- I can't help if we share similar e-mail addresses..." She then showed him a list of mail. "Just remember-- Abs' writing her, not me!"

"Uhuh. It's very unsettling to read such words addressed to you-- I mean her."

A couple of clicks, and Kleene opened up a social networking website. "You know, there are also pictures..." She showed him a few shots of a man hugging a girl that resembles a riceball. "Again, that's her, not me."

"WHAT THE HELL?!"

Moral Lesson: You must write those ideas that popped out of nowhere.

Part Five

Commi-ninja was having a conversation with alicetama inside one of the JDC cafeterias during lunchbreak.

"Some truck came along and scooped xpon up with a big net." alicetama said, matter-of-factly.

Commi took a sip of her ninja soda. "Good for him, then. Finally got rid of that pervert."

"I dunno about that..." alicetama frowned.

"Why? Do you think they'll throw him back?"

"Odds are they will." the lolita shrugged. "I can't imagine a scenario where xpon doesn't get rejected sooner or later."

"Good point."

Moral Lesson: I know, I know. I swear this is the last you'll see of xpon in my stories.
Spoiler: Author's Notes
My God. I didn't expect me to put on there totally out of the blue stories. Oh well.

Mafia: The only place where you can find Gin and Akai married together with 8 kids all disguised as Akai. Or something epic like that.
