I speak English being I'm american and a little bit of French from H.S. classes.  I would like to say I speak a little japanesse I have picked up from friends and watching anime but that would be a lie for the most part lol.  I think it's funny how Americans like me can more or less only speak one language where as people from other Countrys can speak 2,3, even 4.  Shows how good our educational system is at least in the language area lol.

I'm Australian-Chinese, so I speak both English and Chinese fluently, however I can only read and write English fluently. As for Chinese...a thousand or so characters? I took German in high school so I'm fair at it.

I don't like people who take Japanese in high school. That just makes you look like a try hard. Sure, it's great to learn the language as a hobby, but to me it kinda seems like you learn it for the sole purpose of anime and looking cool. I may be wrong, but yeah...

My HS did not even offer Japanese lol.  Guess it's not a very prominent language down here  :-\

In my case, I can't help it. I have to learn my national language (Malay), my mother tongue (Chinese), and of course English (otherwise how am I supposed to survive when I get to work :P). Also, Chinese people here use quite a lot of dialects, so I picked up Cantonese and Hokkien as well. See, if you're not multilingual where I live, you'll have trouble communicating ;)

Well, I am an American whose parents are Asian.  You have probably never heard of this country -- Thailand -- so I will just name it as Asian in general.  So, naturally, I know English as my main language in which I also know all the grammar mechanics and such.  I also speak my parent's Asian language and I have also attempted to learn some Japanese as well.  However, I cannot actually write in those languages other than English; thus, I really only know one language:  English, though I do attempt to improve my knowledge in other languages.

I certainly have: I live south of it :P
Learning more than one language is quite a lot of work, but pretty fun and rewarding, especially when you can understand things that seem gibberish before ;)
So keep up the effort  :D
