That's true. I am a fan of the triangle. I really don't like either pairing, ShinRan or AiCon, individually. It's all about the conflicts and vying character interactions for me. It's more interesting when it is complicated.

The problem is that it's not all that complicated. There's no inner conflict for Conan - right now. Only Ai's emotional life is somewhat interesting.

Which is why I don't care about Shin Ran Ai romance in general. (except to poke occasional gentle fun at serious fans) Shinichi is dedicated to Ran and will never look to Shiho because he is so one track minded about his love. Compounding the problem is that Ai isn't very aggressive on the romance front, so it isn't like she is going to try to get Shinichi to like her. Shiho seems like she is going to sit on and brood over her feelings until it is too late. Assuming Shiho doesn't get her game on, about the best I could hope for is to make it a pointy quadrilateral by having Gin find out Shiho likes Shinichi, getting jealous, and trying to murder him which prompts Shiho to act. I wouldn't expect anything like that to happen in the near future.
The FBI's romance situation is more interesting to me even though Akemi is dead. It may get even more interesting if Bourbon turns out to have a thing for Akemi as well. Throw Camel in and we can have a romance pentagon.

It may be exactly that brooding that makes the pairing so appealing. I wouldn't say she's not very aggressive. She's more aggressive than Ran, Sonoko, Eri, and Kazuha combined. It's just that Conan is so oblivious to it. In the end, Gosho will have to present us with a solution to this triangle. Either she stays Ai Haibare forever or she'll find love with someone else. Or she'll stay close to Shinichi somehow, hoping for a chance to attack.
Personally, the FBI's romace situation doesn't really appeal to me at all, unless Sherry was somehow involved in that love hexagon as well. Shuichi is just  brooding over his dead girlfriend, Jodie's just brooding over her ex-boyfriend. Camel doesn't really seem to care about anyone, nor does James.

She doesn't hang around him often, doesn't visit, and the most she ever says about her feelings are teases which just make conan go "... OK then?" Aggressive would be getting him chocolate/something on Valentines day somehow (even subtly), visiting the detective agency once in a while on her own volition, and attempting to be around Conan in general. Ayumi is more aggressive than Shiho is about her feelings.
