Shinichi and Ran not ending up with each other would make less sense than Yoko Okino being the boss of the BO.

Right, somehow we lost over 50 aicon-fans over night while the Ranichi gained like twenty. The problem with both ShinRan and ConAi is that Shinichi doesn't trust the other party.

Shinichi doesn't trust Ran to not jump in and get killed. The reason Conan hasn't told Ran his identity is primarily because of how Ran would try to protect him and involve herself if she knew. Ran readily and unhesitatingly jumps into dangerous situations to protect other people at great risk to herself. She frequently comes out on top because of her karate skills, but up against the Black Organization, it would be sacrificial, as was nearly the case in the Vermouth arc climax. I think this sense of righteousness is one of the characteristics of Ran that Shinichi likes the best about her.

Haibara has also attempted to sacrifice herself for others, but her way of doing it as on the bus hijack case or the climax of the Vermouth arc has a “running away/suicideâ€
Shinichi doesn't seem to care than Ran can't put things together as fast as Haibara can, so differences in case intelligence really isn't an issue. When it comes to explaining cases, Shinichi is a patient dude. He gets grouchy at Mouri for being slow because Mouri is a detective and is failing at his required job.
