Re: Let's get programmy!
I'm currently procrastinating from doing my god awful physics hw (another reason why I'm switching. seriously hype E and M and quantum)
But over here there is kind of an epic nerd-war between ece and cs.

I feel like that sorta thing happens everywhere, though where I went it was more the EEs feeling superior due to having to take extra classes and the CS people just being like "yo whatever dudes I like not stressing out all the time"

Re: Let's get programmy!
lol you're definitely right about the whole EE people acting superior (...I might have been involved in performing these snide actions as well.. <_<) It's hilarious how people sometimes just have epic nerd battles on software vs hardware. I literally listened in to a guy arguing with a cs major about how eloquent LC-3 assembly is while the CS guy was raving about JVM.Akonyl wrote: I feel like that sorta thing happens everywhere, though where I went it was more the EEs feeling superior due to having to take extra classes and the CS people just being like "yo whatever dudes I like not stressing out all the time"
Luckily, a lot of the courses transfer over, seeing how my original major already had the word "computer" in it, so I'm actually not behind at all. Also, the transition was pretty slick regarding paper work and advising monkeys.
edit: now I'm having second thoughts about switching, and I kind of want to stay put. wtf brain.

Re: Let's get programmy!
Haha even though I'm not on often I can potentially help with issues. I have a decent handle on Java. Can code in C++ and C#, Direct X and OpenGL if needed, and working on getting a good working knowledge of C to create a C backend to some projects I want to go cross-platform and I don't want to deal with Managed C++......
haha yeah that Happens.ranger wrote: edit: now I'm having second thoughts about switching, and I kind of want to stay put. wtf brain.

Re: Let's get programmy!
I guess I do like hardware enough to not completely go all code-monkey a la CS style. I'll stick with CompE. The thing is, I like both aspects..just sometimes theres some nasty ass E&M and semiconductor stuff that just flatout suck.Kirbypepe wrote:^Akonyl wrote:we have a concessions stand over here. CS is enticing...maybe if I switched earlier on in my college career, but oh wellz. Now I can still at least act superior and elitist!

if you're gonna act elitist about it, ou better hope you get a job relating to hardware or all the CS people will just end up laughing right back at ya

far as I know, ranger's the only non-CS person here, although Kirby's major is probably called something different because he's doin game-oriented stuff.

Re: Let's get programmy!
BS/BoS are a level of degree, not the major
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science
(BoS in CS)
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science

Re: Let's get programmy!
You'd be correct in that. I'm doing Game and Simulation Programming. Although after I get my degree in this, I'm going to go for the CS degree so that I round out my programming abilities.Akonyl wrote: far as I know, ranger's the only non-CS person here, although Kirby's major is probably called something different because he's doin game-oriented stuff.
