So even with this mystery series being repetitive and predictable, it's still has enough quality to invest time in? It's just that when I hear that someone thinks a mystery series is repetitive and predictable, I'm surprised when they're still reading it. For my part, it's more about the characters first, and the mystery second.
Two part answer:
1) I don't know if it has enough quality to invest in. I just know I personally derive entertainment from still following it, regardless of if it stems from it being good or bad. plus following it has become super easy nowadays with its current release schedule.
2) While here on the forum I mainly talk about the mysteries and such, I'm not sure I care if the mystery is predictable or repetitive at this point.
Oh. So none of the other long-runners (i.e., One Piece) or any of the newer stuff (i.e., Dr. Stone) made you want to keep reading?
I've never read either, so I couldn't have ever dropped them. I'm actually not an avid manga reader and I'd rather watch the anime when it comes out (so for the sake of this example, I did watch Dr. Stone and will watch season 2 as well, but that's not really like following a manga week to week).
Okay. So you were bringing up the repetitive nature in regards to speculations/theories that you thought, if people took seriously, they'd be setting themselves up for disappointment if they don't pan out (i.e., Rum being a fourth suspect)?
Yes. And also to point out that, since elements of this manga have been repetitive, the resolution to the Rum mystery being repetitive as well isn't such an unlikely scenario.

Well, the 1 out of 3 selection has always been a repetitive element across the arcs and the element of surprising us with which 1 out of the 3 turns out to be B.O. is also quite repetitive, so it's basically not a surprise to expect how Gosho may try to surprise us by choosing the most unlikely RUM suspect to be RUM, which is basically not surprising then.

So... since Conan mentioned in file 1033 about the kind of people who would use multiple IDs, among the 3 RUM suspects, we can expect to see each of the following 1 out of the 3: the appearance of Tsutomu (spy from MI6), RUM (the conartist), and ? (detective from the police force). ;D It's just a question of who is who out of the 3!

And about Wakita testing Conan by asking him about a missing shogi piece right after the chiken ranch case most likely suggest he heard it from Amuro, who may have reported it to him after he returned from the ranch, and since Conan was also there on the trip, Wakita may have inquired about it to confirm whether Conan was aware of such a missing shogi piece being discovered. This just seem to confirm that there is some kind of relation going on between Bourbon and Wakita, which makes it even more suspicious after their sudden double appearance and teaming up during the snowy mountain case.

Image

Now back at the current case, I think whether there would be an appearance of a fourth Yusaku Kudo or limited to only 3 Yusakus may be a hint towards whether there will a fourth RUM suspect. ;)

So since Conan seems to have this case figured out, I hope this just ends up being a "joke esque case" that'll be resolved next chapter, so we can get Kid out of our way.

One thing that most likely won't happen but would be amazing if it does: YusaKid accidentally referring to Conan as his son on live TV, triggering every goddamn character in the series.

And something that probably shouldn't happen but at this point I wouldn't even complain if it does happen: at the end of the case, Yusaku (the real one) tells Conan something he doesn't know yet about the Rum mystery (like about the shogi piece that went missing). Why would Yusaku know of it? Cause he's Yusaku, I guess :V

Locked room murder trick deduction (File 1058)

Basically, the idea could be to utilize weight in order to turn the thumbturn lock from a 45 degrees position to a complete 90 degrees (horizontal) position. By adding enough weight for it to start turning clockwise slowly, you might have enough time to close the door before it fully turns horizontal and locks up.

In the first case and second case, there were bags involved with weights on them (big lotion bottle in Atsumi's and a lot of trash in Taiji's). To camouflage the bags on the floor, the culprit messed up the bathroom and apartment.

In the third case however, there was no bag, however, we were made aware of that Koretsuga had a lot of kitchen utensils hanging up the wall, possibly to make note of that they all have holes in them. This could be were a string could fit in, where it replaces the bag's effect of combining all their weight around the thumbturn lock. The culprit might have tied the string as a lasso in order to pull the knot out from below the door after locking the door in order to untie it and remove the string. When the police later opened the door, the utensils could have been pushed to the side (like in Atsumi's case), making their awkward placing from the string pull disappear.

They did mention a female TV announcer coming to do the interview. I'm not holding my breath, but I would like if the TV crew shows up and it's actually Hidemi/Rena/Kir instead of the new announcer. Of course, there's not much to base this on, but I just took note of that particular detail. But, more likely, this female announcer is going to turn out to be the culprit (hence why she's being introduced before she actually appears next chapter), so she'll come there with the TV crew, do the interview with "Yusaku", and get busted during the session by Shinichi/Conan and Kid (or not, and this'll case where the suspects only get introduced through mentions, rather than actually appearing).

Unless the next chapter introduces more case characters and hints that imply it's actually three different culprits, Yumekawa's looking like the (too?) obvious culprit of all three cases.

Yeah, that assessment will most likely pan out, at this point.

Shinichi's/Conan's confident statement in 1,058 that there's only one culprit seems to imply just that (along with only Yumekawa and the 3 victims being introduced in 1,058)—it would be strange to have him say that, only to introduce 3 suspects next file (unless those 3 suspects are part of the TV crew, and this case is going to be 5 files long instead of the 3-file case it's shaping up to be).

The one problem with my assessment is how Yumekawa only has anything remotely resembling a motive for the first victim.

Unless it's a really petty/serial killer motive, we'll probably need more information as to why she did it.

And with this, we've ended the double digit volume era (which started back in 1995) and now begin the triple digit volume era.

Spoiler pics of 1,059 are now available (in Chinese).

Here are some translations, courtesy of Fujiwara:
Page 1
File 1,059
Deduction Show Preparation Meeting

In the face of the Kudō family’s crisis—The greatest combination emerges?!

Page 2
Side note: Appearing at the Kudō house is Kudō Yusaku— no wait, this boastful smile has got to be…

C: You-
You…

C: You’ve gotta be kidding me—!

K: Hey there.

K: Seeing the seldom-seen Kudō Yusaku in a pinch, I could not ignore it,

K: So I came to help.

K: What? Aren’t you going to welcome me?

K: After all, he helped clear my name, and I pay back my debts — good or bad.

K: So here I am!

C: It really is you!

Page 3
C: Kaitō Kid!

K: But if you take offense at my coming uninvited,

K: I’ll take my leave…

C: W-Wait!

C: Didn’t you say you paid back kindness?

C: Then go on…

C: Please pay it back.

K: Such a tsundere!

C: Crap!

The TV crew arrives in less than 10 minutes!

C: Anyway, come in first.

C: I’ll give you an overview over the case!

K: Got it.

Page 8
*ding dong*

C: Crap! The TV crew is already here!

*ding dong*

C: I’ll go answer the door.

K: But there’s still one more victim, right?

C: Yes.
Let me invite the crew in first, then we’ll go continue in a different room.

C: Just remember…

C: Don’t talk any nonsense!

K: Got it.

K: Leave it to me!

TV people: Good evening!

Page 9
Yume: I’m Yumekawa Saiko from Tōto TV!

Yume: Please take good care of us during the broadcast tonight!

K: So you’re miss Yumekawa! You’re very pretty.

Yume: But we already met the other day to discuss the shooting,

Yume: didn’t we?

K: Of course, I just almost didn’t recognize you…

K: Since young women like you get prettier every day.

Yume: oh my…

*thump*

C: Then let’s quickly get you inside and start preparing the shoot!

K: Ah, right…

Yume: In that case, we’ll go ahead to the study.

K: Please do.

C (thoughts): I thought I told you not to talk nonsense!

Page 10
Yume: Then we’ll first…

Yume: install our equipment.

Yume: Kudō-sensei, please go to a different room and get your make-up done.

K: No need, no need.

K: I already got throroughly made-up.

Yume: I-Is that so?

C (thoughts): Guess being made up by a visagiste would give him away.

Yume: I feel like I’ve seen this kid before.

C: I’m the famous Kid killer, Edogawa Conan.

K: He’s the kid of a friend of mine.
He’s been constantly pestering me, saying he wants to know how a TV program is filmed!

Yume: That’s right, where’s your wife? She said she’d be showing up too.

K: Ah, that…

C: Aunt Yukiko wasn’t feeling well, so she’s resting.

Yume: I see…

Yume: Then we'll wait for the dress rehearsal time and then go greet her.

K: All right.

Page 11
C: Now, let’s get back to the important point…

C: How did you know that my Dad fell ill?

K: In order to pay back his favor, I was tailing you guys for a bit…

K: And thus overheard your conversation at the pharmacy entrance.

K: But who’d have thought both husband and and wife would be out of the game like this…

C: Seriously. It’s most likely food poisoning, they’re still laid up in the bedroom.

Now that we have a panel of Kogoro and Ran watching the broadcast, it would be even more amazing if Kid blurted out something he shouldn't which alerts the Rum suspects trio (who might also be watching this).

not holding my breath, though

I will be positively surprised if anything grand happens in vol 100. It's just that I don't think the arc has made great strides to reach a major event in the past year, and also Gosho said this in the recent Let's Talk day.
Q: We'll soon reach Volume 100, but are there plans for some event?

A: (looks at the editor) Is there? There's not, right? (laughs)
Well, the (Shonen) Sunday will do their best so... Heh, heh, heh (laughs)
(If Gosho's ever tried to mislead fans about stuff in interviews or Q&As, please let this be the one)

Otherwise, if nothing major happens in vol 100, that means we'd probably have to wait for chapter 1100, which means... 2 more years...

Well, the question was about a event or so. And a event actually maybe means some party or gathering of some sort. The question didn't specify whether the event was in manga plot wise or not. So I have my hopes up.
