Episode 950: The Radio Questions and Concerns Show (Solution Arc)

-This narration is sponsored by Raid: Shadowman Legends.

-invisible Okino Yoko

-Kogoro will search for her for the next 20 years.

-Well now that Yoko is in Hawaii, she can learn how to do EVERYTHING EVER, just like Shinichi. : D

-It's kinda amazing how after all this time, I still remembered that Mizunashi Rena worked at Nichiuri TV.

-Ok, so now Conan is Apollo Justice!

*shrug*

Episode 952: The Unsolved Cocktail Case (Part One)

-Well that's one way to start an episode!

-A threatening letter? I agree, that's never a cause for concern! What, does he think he will die?

-Oh no, what is Bourbon finds out-wait we found out he wasn't a real member of the Organization years ago, why is this worrisome?

-That was the very threatening "unlocking door" music

-Oh its like one of those maid cafes. But bunnies. Pfft.

-Conan no-selling the girls and just caring about the food is one of his more believable takes at acting like a real kid tbh

-I dunno what I understand less, sexy bunny outfits or sexy santa outfits.

-"Who gropes a bunny girl in front of his own daughter?" This sentence is so insane it makes this kinda funny.

-Honestly this type of humor is mostly done for me, but it is kinda funny with how much Detective Conan is never like this. Unlike average shonen series, where its just boring and predictable.

-Wait, if the bunny girls all eat, who is working now?

-I would've been so mad if no one had followed him

-Something so weird about all the back phones. Just nothing but women with a phone on their back. That only adds to the weirdness of bunny girls being supposedly sexy.

-I can't say I expected her to the one to die. You had an old man who was threatened AND that girl whose an asshole, so you'd think it would be either of them.

-It's also a little funny that Conan's tv explanation interrupted the music

-Hello, Haibara ED!

Episode 953: The Unsolved Cocktail Case (Part Two)

-"called the Black Bunny Restaurant" ...it says Black Bunnys Club right on screen. Right there on screen. It's right there. It literally doesn't say that, Crunchyroll translator!

-"You, the master of your butler" seems like a slightly redundant statement

-"You fabricated the threatening letter too" well at least Kogoro is saying my first assumptions about this case

-Lol x's for eyes, RIP Mouri Kogoro :'(

-Kogoro is really doing a good job of getting rid of the obvious ideas first

-Hello tiny Amuro and...some person

-Akai Shuichi (but now the Shui is silent :V)

-Oh hi Rum!

-Tiny Akemi : DDDDD

-"I don't want to be called a mad scientist again" ...this has happened before?

-I'm curious about how that whole thing ends up being relevant to the case

Episode 954: The Unsolved Cocktail Case (Part Three)

-"What about me? : D" is how Amuro should be all the time. Just happy at the most awkward of times.

-It would be amazing if they were like "Sherlock Holmes, magnifying glasses...that's it! It must've been the fork!" Just completely nothing to even doing with what he mentioned.

-I mean yes, we all heard about her father, why are you mentioning this like other people didn't hear it?

-So this time, the butler actually did do it

-"Yes, so you'd finally open your eyes" But you're the one whose eyes don't look like they're open...

-No one tells anyone anything in these stories, I swear...

-I have no idea how that would make someone think of "losing and gaining weight"

-Dammit Amuro, why are you still doing this?

-Yukiko and Yusaku are way too happy about all of this

Well that case was...fine. Decent. Honestly not as interesting as it should've been, especially for a 3 parter. Like it felt like a less interesting version of other cases for the most part. I dunno. The plot stuff was way more interesting, even compared to normal. Ok so now that Amuro and Akai know who the other is and they're both found by Shinichi's parents...what's gonna happen now? I have no idea. Like the Rum arc has been slower than usual and its lack the real great high points so far that other arcs have had, but I appreciate that its biding its time and is at least a bit less predictable. I have some ideas, but there's so many new and less new characters involved that I don't know where we're ultimately going with this.

Wow, the new ED is a ZARD cover band song and composed by Aika Ohno (basically responsible for all Conan songs 1999-2009)

Has this thread been abandoned?
I'll give you my opinion on the latest episodes.
I'm still missing eps. 946-947, 948, 951 and 955.
Eps. 949-950: Cool touch with adding an unknown narrator who is also a culprit. A bit complicated case, but you could feel who the culprit was if you payed attention. Great motive, too. (Unlike a later case).
Eps. 952-954: Last manga case for now. Very Gosho-like trick, but it's good it wasn't overly complicated. But it didn't impress me. Also, the motive... it was terrible. I don't know how Japanese customs work in this regard. But why would an older fellow need to injure himself just to visit his daughter? It seems so unrealistic and ridiculous. The most interesting thing in this case was the flashbacks of Bourbon and the Miyano couple.
Eps. 956-957: Very good case. And what a plot twist in the end! I did not see that coming. The writers did a great job by convincing us that it was the other way around. I felt bad for the culprit of the first crime.
Eps. 958-959: Simple case. Known culprit, no evidence. "How did he do it" was the question. It was somewhat shocking that the victim was the killer's accomplice at first. The culprit for the second crime gave herself away way too easily. Case was brutal, but not very interesting either way. PS. Are Poodles supposed to be this big? All I've seen is small Poodles.
Ep. 960: Is this the first time in the series that we had a proper psycho serial killer? This saved the episode, otherwise it was boring. Also, if she's been killing her boyfriends the same way before how come the police didn't investigate her house in the past?
Ep. 961: What a stupid case. The writers tried to combine comedy with uneasiness and they didn't mix well. I hated this case. And one of the stupidest motives I've ever seen in DC.
Eps. 962-964: 3-parter AO. Must be good, right? It wasn't jaw dropping, but it kept me interested. At first I thought that the killer was sent by Eri to spy on Kogoro. How wrong I was. Many false leads, many plot twists. The case was good, not jaw dropping, but still, for an AO, good. The fact that Eri appeared benefits the case as we rarely see characters like her in AOs.
Eps. 965-968: Speaking of special characters appearing in AOs... I'm glad we've got to see Heiji and Kazuha again in an AO. We learn that Kazuha is a huge Gomera fan. The case itself was very good and I didn't know what was going on until the 3rd episode. The ending was kind of disappointing. It was more about tension and action instead of figuring stuff out. For a 4-parter, this case was great and with Heiji appearing, it was even better.
All in all, the AO cases haven't been bad lately. I think the writers do everything they can to come up with something good while we wait for the manga cases. Speaking of... when is the next manga case going to appear? There are already 8 manga cases out. Surely, the anime won't catch up that easily.

We still dunno when; some think either in March or April at the latest since they will probably try to do episodes with characters related to the movie as part of the promotion.

There's really no point in using either the manga or anime to promote the movie. Whenever a new manga case is published, the anime will naturally be a good distance away from adapting said manga case. Either the anime will awkwardly follow something like a year after the movie or the manga will be like a year before (and it's questionable to what degree this level of foresight can be shown, as at that stage even the movie producers might not yet know what the end movie is going to look like). Manga cases often might include details that would deter adaptation out of order, unless Gosho takes care not to do so.

For example, the "Kaito Kid and the Fairy's Lips" case might've been designed to promote M23, but even as we near the 24th movie we've yet to see this one air on the big screen. As Gosho's put-out rate declines, this problem will only get worse.

I watched 4 episodes that I missed. Now I need to watch eps. 946-947 and the latest Mystery Tour 969-970.
Anyway...
Ep. 943: What on earth did I just watch... Is this supposed to be some kind of Japanese-style comedy that I don't understand? I didn't like this episode one bit. No culprit, no murder, no nothing. I don't want to watch it again.
Ep. 948: Eh... obvious culprit (because he had the "strongest" alibi), although I didn't figure out the trick he used. And he had a good motive... well... he had a few motives, but one of them was actually good. Okay episode.
Ep. 951: For me it was obvious the bad-looking guy stole the books. But I didn't know the trick with that special liquid. I think this kind of science-related trick would be something Aoyama-san often uses. Better than episode 948, but one thing bothers me. Why did the book shop owner go at night to a deserted place to meet the man he just had a fight with? Extremely unreasonable.
Ep. 955: The best episode of the bunch. We finally get to see children older than 7 years old! And the picture show was funny (unlike episode 948). It was an interesting setting. Kind of a ghost town. No one around, just children dressed as insects. Genta was funny too. The trick was very interesting. Using others' greed to fulfill his last wish. That mayor was a smart guy. I enjoyed this episode.

And did I see it right? Are we FINALLY getting the traffic policewomen murder case in March?

I caught up, finally. I watched every episode.

Eps. 946-947: Eh, could have been a cool case, but it was rather boring. Not to mention that the ending was extremely disappointing. The (now) mentally ill woman stabbed the actress, then the actress instead of seeking help committed suicide... over a fake piece of jewelry. I've been interested in Japanese culture for a long time, but I still can't understand their suicide logic... What was disappointing is that the mentally ill woman never learned the truth and continued to lived in her imaginary world. Quite a weak, boring and disappointing case. Not the worst, though.

Eps. 969-970: This case was better, but I expected more from a Mystery Tour case. Kogoro getting hit by a money bag twice was quite funny. :D The plot was a bit confusing, but later it started to make sense. I feel a bit bad for the old man, though. He was desperate to receive his pay and only "kidnapped" himself to get it. Later, he almost got killed by his apprentice. In the Conan world I wish he didn't get a harsh sentence. The method Conan used with the special liquid to make footprints appear was cool and more advanced than the case itself. The ending was funny, hahaha. As a AO case, it was okay. As a Mystery Tour, quite bad.

And now, 4 episode of awesome! Can't wait for the manga cases!

Episode 956: The Mystery-Solving Water Taxi (Part One)

-I was thinking I came back to this too soon, but almost all of these new episodes are multi-part cases. Which is both good and justifies me taking only half a year to get back to the series. There's even a 4 parter!

-"So Jim, what's your idea for this opening?"

"Well Vodka and Gin turn into crows and Conan walks on random non-existant...colors. I dunno. I guess we have a city background, maybe we have a weird looking reflection that Conan runs over?"

"...ok. Well we have no time to restart so...it'll have to do!"

-I would never personally say "incurred his wrath" outside of writing fiction, but that's just me. Takagi is probably just better with words than I am.

-Well this guy is immediately suspicious.

-Oh no, the culpritbot 3000 is broken!

-I wonder if "hosp-" was as obvious when spoken in Japanese.

-This guy is way more charismatic than your average AO suspect.

-I mean, I'm guessing right now the son did it, and this guy just failed to stop...something from happening. Or maybe they both caused a death each.

-Conan has had nothing to do with anything that happened this episode. He's mostly just been...observing what happens.

-I appreciate any scene where Kogoro and Conan discuss the case without pulling the "HE'S JUST A CHILD" excuse.

Episode 957: The Mystery-Solving Water Taxi (Part Two)

-Man, imagine if this random guy in the security footage had nothing to do with anything

-I'm gonna keep saying this. I like Conan being allowed to do his thing without having to hide it to every adult. Since the London case, its been clear Kogoro gets that Conan is at least an incredibly smart kid who can be valuable in cases, so anything that contradicts that to stay with the same 1997 status quo is just somewhat wrong to me now.

-Sleeping Kogoro, more like Teleporting Kogoro

-The square head twins

-The exciting "running down stairs on the tiny boat to find the guy whose not escaping" music

-"Do you get in trouble at school?" I mean, he keeps dragging his fellow classmates unwittingly into various murder scenes, so I assume so?

-Oh its kinda the reverse of what I thought happened. Huh.

This case was pretty solid. It was at the very least, a good way to come back to this.

Episode 958: The Poodle and the Shotgun (Part One)

-This is either the best or worst title for a case

-lol of all times to watch a Conan episode with fireworks. Almost perfect timing!

-Happywow sure is a name

-When they said they had a present for her and some mysterious person appeared behind her, I legit said out loud "And that present? DEATH". It's rare I say or do anything I think is actually funny (despite my efforts), but this is one of them.

-Well we have our shotgun. I just hope it turns out the person holding it is actually a poodle.

-"SCREW YOUR CAKE" lol how petty

-Ok leaving flowers on top of the tarp on top of her dead body...I'm not sure this is as respectful as its supposed to be. Like at least wait for them to move the body, cmon.

-What? Conan rolling down stairs? Why? Wacky sound effects? What? also hi Takagi

-"Oh man, I can't believe I get to finally animate for Detective Conan. I wonder what I'll be doing for my first episode?" *goes on to animate dog food being stepped on and destroyed* LIVING THE DREAM

-You know, Happywow upside down would be Sadmom.

...because...a frown is like an upside down smile...

...

I'm sorry

-Well he's smug about his alibi so...in all likelihood...

-Escape the poodle by boat jumping, of course!

-Wait he was killed by Shadowman! I should've known!

You know, now that I'm older I've gained newfound appreciation towards The Cursed Mask Coldly Laughs (EP184). So much so that I'll be willing to say it has quite possibly the greatest locked room murder trick in anime and manga ever due to how daringly it handles the visual clues. It's all in front of your nose but even when the trick is shown it's quite impressive. It's a trick that cannot work well outside of the visual medium.

Tantei Gakuen Q has sort of a variation of this trick in Q vs. A (EP24-25), and that case exactly proves how close to nonsensical writing and turd presentation this type of idea is as that case turned into a complete mojo jojo smelly piece of loincloth when the trick was revealed (I'm like "this has gotta be a joke..."), while in Cursed Mask it's pretty ingenious.
