Episode 934: The Thoroughbred Kidnapping Case (Part Two)
-I just realized how funny it is to point out that a horse is an imposter.
-Ran with the most dramatic reaction to finding the horse blanket
-Oh no, its like comic books. "YOU WERE GREAT 999 TIMES, BUT YOU FAILED ONCE, HOW DARE YOU?!" If there's a Japanese J Jonah Jameson, I think we found him.
-Why does Conan use "they" to make their identity vague when he is thinking to himself?
-Man, imagine if I spoke in such vagueness. "Funny line was said by that person. I wonder if...I guess it could be...yeah that's it."
-Naruhodo
-It's weird how he's even given Kogoro a chance. That rarely happens and even more rarely works out.
-Y'know, during the London case, Conan was simply a major help in the case rather than a kid having to sneak around the adults in some way or another. I feel since then, Conan having to knock someone out and pretend to be them has been outdated, because in canon, everyone just goes along with Conan for the most part anyway. I point this out because that's kinda what they're doing here, but I just know it won't last.
-I love how they're doing the "they're twins" twist but...with horses.
-Ok, I do love how Conan let him try because he loves horses. That's an incredible reason.
That was a decent enough case. Not anything I'll remember in the long term, but solid enough, even if one or two things should've been obvious to everyone fairly quickly (did no one think the money bag was suspicious?).

Basically, after the Vermouth arc, Shinichi/Conan just started gaining more and more allies. The FBI is—and even Japan's Security Bureaus are, as well—in his corner, now. He barely does the Sleeping Kogorō or Sonoko routines, these days, and barely uses Dr. Agasa as a literal mouthpiece, either. Instead, he just tag teams with whoever's on hand (Jodie, Shūichi, the Nagano trio, Shūkichi, Bourbon, etc.), and doesn't have to resort to as many excuses as he used to. Long gone are the days where Shinichi/Conan felt it necessary to even tranq Heiji, of all people. Sure, due to Mary, his relationship with Masumi in regards to main plot stuff isn't smooth, but as far as cases go, she's another person he can tag team with.kkslider5552000 wrote:-Y'know, during the London case, Conan was simply a major help in the case rather than a kid having to sneak around the adults in some way or another. Re: Detective Conan Anime Discussion Thread (Latest Subbed Episode: 942)
Yeah usually he has other people, but in the London case, I really got the sense that everyone was willing to go with Conan's thoughts on most things, compared to the past where especially Kogoro would mostly dismiss him as a child. Considering how Kogoro woke up early in the Red Shirt case (that aired 9 years ago wtf), it also feels like Conan also wants to avoid needing to use Sleeping Kogoro as the sleep darts are maybe not working on Kogoro like they used to. And as far as I remember, Gosho's more or less stuck to not using Sleeping Kogoro ever since.
So I guess AOs using Sleeping Kogoro makes sense to at least stand out from newer manga based episodes, but it also comes across as missing one of the more interesting and subtle changes in the series. Probably because SLEEPING KOGORO IS PART OF OUR BRAND SO USE HIM FOREVER BECAUSE POPULAR!!!

Since the Rum arc started, there have only been 3 instances (in the manga) where he tranquilized Kogorō—the case where Kogorō and Ai acted like stalkers when they thought Yoko and Higo were a couple, the case where Mary stole Shinichi's/Conan's thunder, and when Kanenori Wakita, a.k.a., the Eyepatch Sushi guy, first appeared.kkslider5552000 wrote:Yeah usually he has other people, but in the London case, I really got the sense that everyone was willing to go with Conan's thoughts on most things, compared to the past where especially Kogoro would mostly dismiss him as a child. Yeah, it shows how far he's come since those early days where Dr. Agasa was his sole confidant. Now, wee see all those he's met—those he's come to rely on, who've made things less difficult for him.

Episode 937: The Killer Fist of Talos (Part One)
-1 episodes AOs? What are those? I've never heard of them.
-Man, this episode must be brutal if someone's gonna be punched to death. :V
-Mitsuhiko knowing about corporate spies might be the most in-character thing he's done in ages (by that I mean, having a distinct character in any way)
-I gotta be honest, kids knowing about Greek mythology is actually less weird to me than a kid knowing what a corporate spy is
-I would've laughed hard if the boat just rammed into them
-Ok, raise your hand if you associate rocs with Zelda. Roc's feather, Roc's cape, Kargarocs etc *raises hand*
-This is the most unnecessarily impressive display
-Genta probably somehow thought it was eel
-I wonder if people in this world associate animosity with death. Because they tend to go hand in hand.
-Agasa's pissed
-Sonoko's parents do not exist in this flashback
-"There's no room for Sonoko-neechan" NOT WITH THAT ATTITUDE THERE ISN'T!
-"I constantly failed to catch his pitches" Well based off of those nicknames, I never would've guessed
-What hasn't Shinichi told this kid, srsly
-Well you won't be able to fit handcuffs on that thing! :V

The breaks are devastating for the anime not just because of the increase in AOs, but now we have a 4 chapters case that's being adapted to 3 eps, and it draaaaaaaags.

Where was the anime in quality before this, then? "Devastating" implies quite the quality drop.Kor wrote:The breaks are devastating for the anime not just because of the increase in AOs, but now we have a 4 chapters case that's being adapted to 3 eps, and it draaaaaaaags.

Episode 938: The Killer Fist of Talos (Part Two)
-"Let's all pet the giant hand"
-Well if he's still breathing, its not a "killer" fist, now is it? I mean, I assumed killer was literal considering the series but now its more like "wow dude, your fighting technique is super impressive! You have some killer fists, bro!"
-"After all, I made sure it couldn't be opened." In a different case, this could easily lead to someone dying somehow
-I bet the culprit was Ayumi. After all this time, she finally snapped
-...is Haibara supposed to be somehow upset at being asked to find a remote when she was asking how to help or...? Or is this just naturally her face, because otherwise that was...pointless and weird.
-Y'know, unlike being vague for no reason, at least I believe Conan would think "So that's how it is" for reasons other than to not give away the culprit to the audience.
-So basically this conversation was:
"I'm sad that he's close to dying!"
"Stop being sad"
"Ok : )"
lololol
-Apparently they all teleported mid-sentence
-Someone really just wanted Conan to fight a giant, and thus they made this entire case to make that technically happen
Good and interesting case. Again, Conan attacked a giant, it has to be good! I will say the pacing was a bit weird, but maybe I'm just used to this series going through the same slow parts in the exact same way too often.

Episode 941: Find Maria-chan! (Part One)
-Well that title is...interesting. I don't think I even thought of it actually be relevant to anything until right now.
-Wait wait wait, what is happening? That case was months ago. There have been a good chunk of episodes released since then. So...how is she back only now if she's appeared in several murder mysteries with Kogoro at the same time? Is this a flashback? Like when are we? Where are we? What is happening?!
-Ah ok, the AOs since then have all been a fever dream Conan's having. That must be it! *nods unconvincingly*
-Y'know in Conan's world, I totally buy that literally everyone would be focused on the same murder mystery story at the same time. Their lives must be surrounded by news of MURDER, so detectives are like superheroes at this point.
-Well Shinichi's supposed to be dead, time to kill everyone he loves!
-She's not smiling because of that list, she just found a great deal on Amazon.
-GIN AND VODKA ARE DRACULA! I KNEW IT!
-Showing Chianti and Korn like they will show up and do something...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVzFXI_v9W8
-"Yes it wasn't a dream!" was also Conan fans' reactions for at least weeks
-Ah yes, His Neighbor the Kudos, my favorite underappreciated Ghibli film
-Someday someone will be blinded by THREATENING GLASSES
-Wait oh no! I confused Maria with Mary! I mean, I super vaguely remember Maria. She showed up...more than a decade ago, right? It was like the first new episode with the new OST IIRC.
-I wonder if they bothered to keep the same VA for her...
-An insane fan is gonna unintentionally get so many people killed! See children, this is why you respect a celebrity's privacy. Who knows if they are actually hiding from a secret organization?
-And that episode I believe they actually screwed up and technically aired AFTER Haibara showed up. I remember such obscure Conan trivia...
-They open it and a skeleton falls out
-"The bookcase fell!" ...oh no, how...awful?
-Only volume 82? That's nothing. :V
-"Could one social media post cause this much of an uproar?" Ooooh boy! This...this has been saved to my computer. I'm gonna get a lot of mileage out of this screenshot with this one line.
-Everyone's dealing with this, good job Conan!

Episode 942: Find Maria-chan! (Part Two)
-Y'know, random thought: It's about time for Conan to change its art style again. This is like the 5th real change in art style in this series, but that started a decade ago. It is time for something new, I feel like.
-"Everyone's talking about your boyfriend" "He's not my-oh wait he actually is"
-The monkey wizard is all powerful, be careful
-Gee, that boat is on its side, I wonder why?
-This is really elaborate for one random grandma
-She must've been so bored to figure out all the ways to make an arrow
-Haibara weighing her options like "Do I do whatever I can to potentially save this small child...or do I avoid having to talk with Kudo-kun? This is a tough one..."
-"Kudo Shinichi had a twin brother who died" While this hasn't happened, various things similar enough to part of it have
-I thought they would have done more guesses with the arrow already right there before this but ok
-...I'm surprised they didn't even try the pink door until now
-You clearly just showed 6 apparently quiet people, that's not such a commotion that it should interfere with anything.
-Well, I certainly didn't expect to see these two in this episode.
-Thankfully Shinichi twins are basically common
-"SEE GUYS, WE'RE NOT BACKTRACKING ON THIS, OK?! Now leave me alone for 3+ months." - Gosho Aoyama, probably
-"Do you have any plans for Christmas, Amuro?" "Murder"
-This ED is suspiciously early...
-
So I'm not sure what this character is about all of a sudden but ok. Regardless, I really like these episodes. Interesting puzzles are a good replacement for death sometimes.

Episode 944: The Cost of Likes (Part One)
-It's obviously 300 dollars. Just tell me what that is in yen and we won't need to spend two episodes on figuring out the cost of likes.
-Injuries are funny I guess
-"What a despicable pair : ) " is a very Haibara thing
-That's not a cool effect, he actually painted over his glasses lenses with white paint for no reason
-None of this happened, Conan is just paranoid and weird
-I will say, these side characters in this cafe are at least distinct from most Conan one-off characters. You could put them in a different episode later and I'd recognize them and everything (thank you bright colors!). To be fair, this would not be my example for re-using character designs even with the other characters...
-I don't need to point this out for the 100th time but...its not daytime where this series is needlessly bright, and the character designs INSTANTLY look better and fit better with this type of series.
-Why would you laugh at Shadowman? You fool
-It's obviously one of the two friends instead, I'll be surprised if I'm wrong

Re: Detective Conan Anime Discussion Thread (Latest Subbed Episode: 953)
Episode 945: The Cost of Likes (Part Two)
-The extra week I took off has made it difficult to remember what's happening tbh
-Like I vaguely remember enough, but some stuff is just a blank
-I didn't think something could making Chuunibyou look dignified but that will do it
-Like I don't even get what they're doing?
-Shadowman, Cleaning Version
-I'd like to believe their ultimate plan is to take over the world. Just because it would be the dumbest direction to take this.
-Oh yeah, I remember that was the direction they were implying for this case to go in. I think...
-"His life's purpose was earning likes on interesting posts" Hahahaha what? This is either clever satire or the stupidest thing I've ever heard! Like wtf?! HIS LIFE'S PURPOSE
-Why did he have to be dead for you to get the girl again? Did I miss something?
That was a pretty good case. I think. Again, hard to remember what happened tbh. But I remember the first part being good and this seemed to conclude things well so...yeah.

Episode 946: The Cursed Tears of Borgia (Part One)
-"Hmm...skeleton in a car...how uninteresting"
-"Do you remember the case of the Cursed Tears of Borgie?" Is that not what we're watching right now?
-Maybe we've finally run out of current murder mysteries (lol) and have to go solve some older, unresolved mysteries instead
-"What a coincidence" No one believes it is a coincidence
-Ok that was ages of nothing happening, and now an old woman is screaming and freaking out suddenly.
-I'd like to believe its the DC Red Hood. Since this is Detective Conan...DC...yeah...
-This creepy old dude is the highlight of this episode. That's not a good sign. But it is funny when his face was stuck that way, even if it was probably just limited animation instead of an just an intentional joke.
-Kogoro is now in this episode I guess
-Well I guess Kogoro died in a fire

Episode 947: The Cursed Tears of Borgia (Part Two)
-Oh yeah, I forgot Kogoro apparently dies in a fire
-"It's just a scratch" Ah yes, fire scratches
-"Your grandson is rather strange" This is not remotely the weirdest thing he's done while trying to be a convincing 7 year old
-I just wish for once, Kogoro would just fall onto the floor, face first, and Conan would just do the Sleeping Kogoro thing as if everything's fine
-Y'know, I just thought of this. There was a case a long time ago where the statute of limitations was nearing its end for a case. But I don't remember if this is like...consistent with that? Or would it be in the first place?
-Conan follows such a specific formula so often that even something like "any culprit for anything is arrested at the 14 minute mark" feels weird
-I do appreciate that the Conan BGM is also in terrible quality for this
-Don't make your in-universe story more interesting than the actual story
-Well that's a bit dramatic
-That certainly was a way to end this story
So, I was gonna just end this by stating this case was kinda boring and more boring than what should've been a more entertaining case. Until we got to those last few minutes that really ties everything together. And I dunno, I'm really mixed on this. On one hand, it was an interesting way to wrap things up, and it was dramatic in an interesting way. But on the other hand, I couldn't take it seriously and found it to be absurd and trying too hard to be dramatic. Like wtf? But that does still make it better than boredom, and I had something to say about it, so I can't say it was anything but a good thing compared to your average AO.

Re: Detective Conan Anime Discussion Thread (Latest Subbed Episode: 953)
Episode 949: The Radio Questions and Concerns Show (Challenge Arc)
-"You'll never catch me" unless this person dies, I have my doubts on this claim
-"the world's greatest producer" more doubts
-Does this place also have the world's greatest janitor?
-Technical Machine-san
-Well they've just lost the entirety of our female audience
-wtf is with this Niconico scrolling text?
-I shouldn't have found Kogoro slapping Conan like that funny, but how it came from nowhere combined with the goofy sound effect made it that way.
-Kogoro taking the blame more willingly than most celebrities and pseudo-celebrities tbh
-"I was going to divorce that thing" Ugh, what a garbage thing to say. It's weird how a character not shown to be over-the-top angry and hateful is the one who said something that vile.
-"I only said my wife who just died is garbage, what's suspicious about me?"
-"Just as planned" must...resist...Death Note...reference...
-Some time I just want them going to different characters reacting to then cut to completely unrelated characters also reacting to it, as if they were actually there.
-I will give the episode this, I have no idea if this guy is the culprit or not. Like just when I assume they've made it kinda clear, something happens to make me doubt it. Which of course, are the scenes that are supposed to make you think he did it.
-What, is mysterious typing person mad that he's apparently going to hell? That's not what they were going for I assume, but that's what I got out of that little bit of text
-What a weird way to end the episode
