So the woman used the illusion from the similar-looking trees on the right side of the car, then moved the car (forward?) without starting the engine? Considering that she was alone, the car must be on a slopping lane.
Anyway, there must be more hints in the next chapter, right? Assuming that this is not a 2-chapter case which is rare if not non-existent at all.

It's not a 2-chapter case. It's a 3-chapter one, as always.

So there will be more hints in the next case.

Though for the past year, the cases we've got have all been 4 (1,009–1,012 & 1,018–1,021) or 5 (1,013–1,017, 1,022–1,026 & 1,027–1,031) files long—this would be the first 3 file case since late 2017. So in a short-term (the span of 1 year is definitely short in this series' long history) context, this is actually a deviation from the pattern.

And speaking of cases only 2 files long, we haven't had one of those since the start of this decade (741–742/624)—a decade that'll soon end, at that.

Apologies for the double post.

A blurry spoiler pic from 1,033 has surfaced.
Spoiler:
Rumi is having a flashback of Kōji Haneda, in which he's talking to her and showing her the Ryuma shogi piece. (At least, I presume he's talking to her and showing her the Ryuma piece)

She drops to her knees, clutching her right eye.

Spoiler:
So Rumi has the promoted bishop piece (ryūma/uma), while Kōji is seen showing off the regular bishop piece (kakugyō/kaku)... I wonder if both these bishop pieces are a part of his message...

In fact, Kōji refers to this bishop he's holding as "the watchtower bishop." Thanks to Fujiwara and/or Manaphy, we know this refers to playing the bishop in your own half of the board, where it can exert its influence over the enemy pieces.

Just as Kanenori looked suspicious last case, this makes Rumi look quite suspicious. Clutching her eye and calling him a fool while thinking of him asking someone if they'll kill him... if that was her he was talking to, it only incriminates her further.

Spoiler:
It's the same piece. When you promote pieces in shogi, you simply flip them on the board, hence it's possible the promoted bishop was never the point of focus. It's also now possible that the shogi piece was never a message in the first place cause it sounds like it was Kouji's lucky charm (or at least far as I understand, her flashback triggers when lucky charm is uttered), so perhaps there isn't a message going on there.

Gotcha. But if all that matters is that it's a bishop piece—and the promotion is irrelevant—then why not show us that she has a promoted/flipped piece in 1,008 and then show us that he was (likewise) holding a promoted/flipped piece in 1,033... or show us that she has an unpromoted/unflipped piece in 1,008 and then show us that he was (likewise) holding an unpromoted/unflipped piece in 1,033?

What we've been shown is that she has a promoted/flipped piece (uma), while he was shown holding an unpromoted/unflipped piece (kaku)—one is promoted and the other is not. If this actually means something, then I can't help but wonder what.

It could be both a piece of evidence and a sentimental object.

Woah.... so.... does it mean that Rumi and Kohji really WERE lovers? :P
Well...... the "kill" word in shoji or chess may also indicate the possibility of taking down the other's king; as in making a "killing-move." So... would that imply Rumi played shoji with Kohji before and she was recalling that scene first then another memory of finding him dead? ;)
Spoiler:
So.... let's do a poll on how many think Rumi is Kohji killer like this file 1033? ;D

My thoughts on File 1032-1033:
Spoiler:
Image
Case Deduction
Spoiler:
A basic "how-dunnit" case. Zenda moved the car manually by the tire, which resulted the dirt on her right arm and palm, which explains the tire mark and the movement of the four-leaf clovers that Ayumi spotted before the corpse was found, in order to fake her alibi with the photo of a corpse-less tree that is actually the wrong tree (because the car was blocking the real corpse tree). That is why she made sure to cover the windows of the right side of the car with cardboard, so that no one but her can see the corpse even when they exit the car. Prior to meeting DB, She also drugged the woman Uruma was keeping in his villa, then locked her in the closet until the murder happened (and was lucky to have her faint due to her claustrophobia even after waking up) and finally after killing him, she unlocked the closet and smeared her hands with his blood to frame her and then dragged Uruma's corpse to the designated encounter site.
Image
Wakasa Rumi's memories
Spoiler:
My suspicions about this proverb about the kakugyo (watchtower bishop) and Kohji asking if Rumi (someone) will still kill him despite that, as well as Rumi calling him foolish, is that Kohji surrendered to his death and was calmly ready to use the bishop piece as a dying message (hence fitting with the proverb "future holds a good move...", since its move will take effect in the future after he dies), and Rumi (who is implied to be BO) had come to his room with intentions to kill him before Rum got to him (wild shot: because she wanted to prevent APTX usage by Rum), but Kohji, having an inkling on her inconsistent intentions with Amanda's killer, convinced Rumi, who took his proverb as the piece being his good luck charm (hence the flashback trigger from "good luck charm"), to pretty much let him make his stand against Amanda's killer with his "good-fortuned" retaliation (which actually meant to leave the bishop piece as a crucial part of the dying message and die by Amanda's killer's hand), thus leading to his death and her calling him a foolish guy for his martyr-like act, and perhaps also because Rum took the bishop piece from his hand in the end (since he doesn't have it on his hand in her memory), making everything seem like a failed retaliation. That would mean that Rumi was there to see him orchestrate the dying message and know what the relevant pieces are (whether she takes anything later or not) and hid herself when Rum came in to kill him (since this was noted as Rum's mistake alone, and not any other BO figure).

Either Gosho is being fair with the flashback implications (meaning that Kohji indeed wondered if she was gonna kill him), or he is going to extreme lengths of highlighting misleading snipbits from completely different contexts of her memory to fuel the Rum mislead. Personally, I'm leaning towards him being fair on this, since unlike Conan during swimsuit and Ran during Chinatown, Rumi doesn't seem to have recollection issues (since she boldly calls Kohji foolish, meaning she remembers Kohji's actions), so it doesn't make sense for her to recall out-of-context snipbits when she already remembers the context (unlike Ran and Conan).
Image
I don't think Kohji's proverb necessarily excludes the piece's promoted side (uma) from being relevant, since the proverb can just be his way of emphasizing the piece as a whole to be important for later. The fact that Gosho revealed the piece with its uma side in File 1008, and then highlights the piece with a kaku proverb here makes both sides candidates (and perhaps it's the least obvious one with that logic, uma, seeing as we had the Rum horse easter eggs).
Wakasa Rumi's pain
Spoiler:
Conan concluding from Rumi just pressing on her eye area that she has monocular vision is to me just another Gosho attempt to mislead, because her pressing like that in general can also be a sign of headache/migraine. This is yet another symptom of wearing unfit glasses imo.
Also, her excuse about feeling "anemic" is an interesting choice, since it immediately reminds me of Vermouth, who made the same excuse for Masumi collapsing in File 822.
Image
Conan's fake identity examples
Spoiler:
"Such as a Detective, who'd change it to something that makes it easier to extract information"
--> Kuroda

"Or a Spy, who'd turn into someone well suited to the place they're infiltrating"
--> Wakita

"Or Someone who'd pose as someone else to deceive people..."
--> Wakasa
Image
So in other words...

Tsutomu is "Kuroda Hyoue the Superintendent" to extract information easier.

the Spy (helping Gin) is "Wakita Kanenori the Chef" to get well suited to Iroha that he's infiltrating.

Vermouth is posing as someone else ("Wakasa Rumi the deputy homeroom teacher") to deceive people.

Well, Rumi clutching to her eye while recalling the memory of Kohji incident may imply that her eye injury may be directly or indirectly related to the Kohji incident. So who could have caused her eye injury? Kohji or someone else?

Since without any further information, all we can draw are baseless speculation without solid proof, so I'm making up my version of the story called "the heroic Tsutomu taking on 3 BOs and damaging their eyes in one go."

So... the story begins with Amanda and Kohji having tea in a hotel room while Tsutomu (alias Asaka was acting as Amanda's body guard at the time who was hired by her after she received threat letter from BO implying her life may be in danger if she does not comply to their demands of transferring billions of dollars to fund the APTX drug research, but of course BO wouldn't tell her what the money is used for just that they wanted her money).

Then as we already know RUM who was involved with making Amanda comply to BO's demands along with 2 sidekicks failed the real mission goal and was forced to drug Amanda to death instead (hence known as his failure). Of course that was because the valiant Tsutomu was present at the time, and with his thrusting jab he stabbed 1 eye of all 3 BO members involved including that of RUM and the 2 sidekick's (so all 3 of them have eye injury done by Tsutomu oh yay.) RUM who was smart instead took and used Kohji as hostage by force and threaten to take his life, which forced Tsutomu to stop. Kohji tried to gamble and bluuff his way through smart talk to no avail, and afterwards Amanda and Kohji were forced fed the APTX drug, Tsutomu's protection mission literally failed and was also forced to fled. I'm not bothering to explain Kohji's dying message since i also speculate that the message may not be left by Kohji himself but rather set up later to mislead the investigation on the case, and surely the bodyguard Asaka/Tsutomu was made to take the blame for their death accordingly.
