kkslider,

I too like your humorous take and damn, at least they make sense when the episodes aren't. Frankly, I never understood how cash cow franchises can waste time and money on original stories as Naruto goes fishing or hiring writers who never read the DC manga or watched a manga-based episode. Some episodes are so bad, not only have they never heard of the source material, they also don't understand how deductive logic works. It's not even easy for me to make up a worst top 10, unless I do a yearly chart. I don't even care to remember which two-parter it was, where Conan got kidnapped again, and I know, I know, I can't write Japanese, but dear writers, take the extra hour and watch the episodes where Bourbon and the others chase the culprit, because...

Anime original Conan, who got yourself captured with no plan whatsoever and then allowed to be thrown out of a moving vehicle, meet manga-based Conan: he's so wary around suspects, that when he doesn't hear the cap popping, he doesn't drink. He pretends to be knocked out to loosen the ropes and strings the culprit along to bide time. It has been months I've seen it and years since I've read it and a special bonus I don't even get paid to remember it. Everybody stood more to gain if the anime original episodes are repackaged and sold as Gintama fanfiction, as the disjointedness from the source material is hilarious.

I know... I could just skip it... but AOs used to be good too, with actual, talented and honored writers. Heck, I recall there being an early episode where Aoyama fangirled out over writing in a TV personality, and if I recall correctly he voiced himself as the culprit. I don't expect a plethora of writers to be as lexical as Aoyama, but I do expect to hit a certain level. Some deductions are so bad (in that they're not conclusive in relation to the culprit) that, yes, I do expect sometimes that Megure just confesses.

There was an early episode written by Toshiki Ino'ue, the guy who wrote the first Dragon Ball movie and showran Kamen Rider 555. Several episodes were written by Masaki Tsuji, an actual bona fide mystery novelist (man, these were holy hell to sub). I think more of that would be an improvement.

Episode 912: The Detective Boys Become Models

-*looks at title again* ...is this a parody? What? This is literally a nonsensical episode title I would make up to make fun of the series. What is happening?

-"Conan is a witness" Conan is involved somehow with all murder in Japan so...

-Oh that's what it means...that's much less interesting.

-"I don't want to be seen in my pajamas" is an impressively dumb excuse

-"What is your name?" "I am a dog. I do not talk, foolish human."

-Satou then murdered this man

-I'll be honest, if they had cut back and forth from the Detective Boys to Satou's murder glare a few more times, it would've been really funny

-A SIGN, GASP

-One of the rare times I actually did figure out the trick ahead of time. It helps that the Detective Boys did look like a slightly awkward addition to that painting, not sure if that was intentional...

This was mostly just kinda boring. Not the most boring, but boring enough.

I’m not so sure his return in The Crimson School Trip has anything to do with ego.
“Life is infinitely stranger than anything which the mind of man could invent. We would not dare to conceive the things which are really mere commonplaces of existence. If we could fly out of that window hand in hand, hover over this great city, gently remove the roofs, and and peep in at the queer things which are going on, the strange coincidences, the plannings, the cross-purposes, the wonderful chains of events, working through generations, and leading to the most outre results, it would make all fiction with its conventionalities and foreseen conclusions most stale and unprofitable.”

Episode 913: Conan Kidnapped (Part One)

-Kidnapped? More like Childnapped! ...

...I think I failed at puns forever

-These are the most puzzle game looking gems ever

-An interesting, new character? Is this a Gosho case or did one of the anime writers just lose it and demand to make something of note?

-"Just enjoying my cigarettes and coffee in the warehouse, that's how you know I'm not suspicious!"

-Box explosion!

-CONAN'S INCREDIBLE ESCAPE

-And now Conan discovers that everyone in this area died because they were victims in cases he solved! :O

-From a distance, he looks like if Kogoro stole Koumei's mustache

-Conan was ready to fight this grown man!

-Conan: "Why did I agree to this?"

-BANG! CONAN'S DEAD, END OF SERIES! GOOD NIGHT EVERYBODY!

-Oh wow, I was just thinking he should just snipe him but I didn't think that's actually where they were going.

-GOD DAMMIT CONAN, STOP DYING

Episode 914: Conan Kidnapped (Part Two)

-I can't believe Conan is hyping dead

-I just realized that the 2nd half of "Conan Kidnapped" should be called "Conan No Longer Kidnapped"

-"there's more to this case than we thought" Is that ever not true?

-Ran's misshapen head was worried (srsly that scene is not good looking for her or Kogoro, STOP AIRING FORTY EPISODES A YEAR)

-"You won't believe what happened" Child leaves hospital, you won't believe what happens next!

-I don't think Conan can get to Hong Kong in an hour and a half. Just a wild guess.

-Of course, this cat was the murderer!

-"I'm glad I could use the truck to hit Kogoro, that was part of my plan" is exactly what I got from this. Not even a joke, I don't know why the truck was needed otherwise.

-WAIT WHAT?! HOW?!

-Spilled ramen saved the day

As per the norm, the more interesting cases beyond lazily copying Gosho's typical formula are more my thing for AOs. The 2nd half wasn't as fun as the first half, where it actually made a fun, dangerous character for Conan to hang out with for a half hour, but it worked well for a story as a whole. The actual case stuff wasn't the best but everything else kept things interesting, and the first half was a lot of fun. It was actually exciting and bordering on suspenseful in a sense. That's basically all I ask for.

Episode 915: High School Girl Detective Suzuki Sonoko

-Sonoko episode?! :o

-Ok, Conan is staring directly at her ass

-"I got this information wrong, we must know participate in an activity relevant to it!"...is maybe a bit more relateable than I'd like to admit.

-Thank god the slide broke her fall

-Sonoko, master of directions

-Sonoko, master of predicting the obvious

-"Thank you for the tour, but aren't we looking for someone?"

-Sonoko, master of nearly breaking her hand

-...Sonoko you're pointing at people, not at...anything. Or places. Or...seriously, what are you even doing?

-Awkwardly, the actual high school girl detective is not here

-I mean, you're not wrong, everyone ever should be suspicious at this point

-Oh she's actually with the killer

-"I'm not that astute" indeed

-"We'll be hearing about this for a long time" No, we won't

This case was decent. Like the execution of it wasn't the best, but I just inherently like anything where Sonoko gets to do things.

Episode 916: Kendo Tournament of Love and Mystery (Part One)

-I feel like the last Kendo related case was like 15 years ago

-He murdered his opponent! :O

-"and tell Kazuha" sure you will

-HIS HANDS DESTROYED THE BOOKCASES

-WTF is that face on Haibara?

-tbh, the chorus of this song is far less interesting than this guitar deserves

-Oh yeah, this girl

-How do you not notice the other guy just sitting there? Worst planned murder ever!

-Kendo Tournament of Murder and Bathroom

-Hello, Shinichi recolor!

-"He's exactly like Shinichi" see, even Ran agrees with me!

-Great entrance, Heiji. Fantastic.

-Maybe coincidentally, everyone ever has met the victim, and this one scene is a room filled with like 100 people.

-...you can say it later Heiji. Someone died. I know that doesn't mean much in your world but still...

-"He means Kazuha, doesn't he?" NOOOOOOO, WHAT COULD POSSIBLY HAVE GIVEN YOU THAT IDEA?!

-Ha, usually the wacky end of episode scene doesn't happen until the case is over. Just putting this before the murder is even solved is unintentionally really funny to me.

Episode 917: Kendo Tournament of Love and Mystery (Part Two)

-This battle just happening while a dead body is casually in the background

-Sato > kendo

-So basically this case happens in real time

-Bald man

-Man, this is a lacking tournament at this rate

-We literally know it wasn't him

-I wonder if Okita just admitted he cut someone's neck to brag about how good he is

-SOMEONE OUTDID CONAN IN A MURDER CASE. IT'S A MIRACLE!

-Oh wow dude, your motive is really contrived.

-RAN LITERALLY DID THE DYNAMIC ENTRY!!!

-"Are you not gonna meet with Hattori, in this universe where the movie inexplicably never happened that you were the focus of?"

Uh, the case was pretty good. Not great, had some issues (especially that motive) but solid enough all around. Like nothing more, nothing less. Really weird but kinda fun to bring back a one-off character from like 15 years ago. But Ran basically pulling a Naruto meme in a scene specifically set up to make other characters look cool kinda gives it bonus points for me.

It's true that the guitar line in the song of Ep.916 sounded like it belonged to something much better, not unlike Ringo Starr's drums in the Beatles.
