Looks like my theory about Kuroda is getting stronger...though still this is just a speculation until further evidences are gathered
Spoiler:
Like I posted in the other topic, I first though of Kuroda as assigned to investigate the Koji Haneda case, and gets involved in an accident, thus the coma (whether this accident is connected to that case I still don't know), the way he looks at the article suggest that he continues to investigate the case and caught an eye on Rumi's photo...who seems somehow similar to that old case. All I know is that I'm positive that he's not RUM (unless this was all a trick set up by Gosho to convince us that he's not a BO agent)

I agree and more or less I believe the same.

Rumi Wakasa stands crearly for Asaka Rum
Rumasaka

That´s not her real name, she is trying to drawn attention to someone related to the case, and seems to do it quite well with Kuroda (and we don´t know if with Wakita too)

Uh I don't think it's that easy... If it's true that she is Rum just because of her name I think it would be boring... I'd rather have her be someone "only" related to the Rum case!

They didn't say that Rumi is Rum. They are saying that Rumi's name is the dying message in disguise.

It simply means its something like CLICKBAIT, Having her name in disguise to a dying message and being in the Arc where the whole point of BO is the Case from 17 years ago, that pretty much sums she is a nasty character.

I think what they actually meant to say was that Rumi wanted to attract the attention of some plot related members - if someone related to the case from 17 years ago reads her name and knows of U MASCARA, they will try to seek her out to find out what she knows about the case from 17 years ago.
Spoiler:
Anyhow, related to the newest spoilers, Rumi actually figured the case out before Conan or Kuroda? She is on a whole different level of intellect all together! Makes me wonder if she is in some way related to (as in a friend or acquaintance of) Mary. Because she too matched wits with Conan. Could be they were part of the same organisation? (FBI/etc) And Mary is taking her help to figure out that case. That would explain why Rumi was interested in Conan... I can't for the world of me imagine why else someone who has never seen Conan in action before to seek out "help" for cases and drop hints.

Simply yep, Rumi Wakasa wants to shake the 17 years ago case and she is doing it quite well id she is near Conan. And it´s "curious" how she always ends appearing in the front page of the newspapers as if it´s a mere accident.

The BO got really mad when that artist with the song named ASACA appeared. For the moment she drew attention from Kuroda and Wakita (in the distance) so she is accomplishing her mission. By this way RUM and more people of the case are likely to appear.

Spoiler:
So basically. during the whole 2nd part(988) of this case.
In translations,
It was clear, Rumi was trying to press Kuroda into saying something. Which is a turning point in this case and arc.
Surely it clarifies they know each other for sure.
Maybe Rumi is trying to find whether or not Kuroda remembers her from 17 years ago if she was involved in the kohji case.

Also, IMO the killer is Ashizawa- san.

Why do you think it's him? Furthermore, there's also the matter of figuring out how the fire started.

EDIT to add something I think could be relevant:
Image
The sticky side of the tape is unburnt and yet, the finger it was wrapped around is burnt.

In addition, this is a picture of his left hand. We are never given a really good look at his left hand.

the bandages we see in the first chapter are on his right hand.
I hope that I can find someway to contribute to the community even if it's just random crack theories and looking things up for people who can't find the information they need.

Spoiler:
I think it's Ashizawa too.

Here in the last panel of 988, we have a look at the three suspects, and there is a suspicous mark on his right sleeve.

Image

Look back to File 987, right before the fire started, his sleeve does not have any mark.

Image

And then again in File 987, right after he comes back from Urushibara's tent, you can see the mark on his right sleeve for the first time.

Image

So I'd say when he set up the trick in the tent, he had to bend down or something and his arm brushed against some incendiary materials or perhaps on one of the candles? In any case, I think that's the evidence that Conan will ultimately use to prove that Ashizawa was the culprit.

Spoiler:
That's actually pretty nice evidence but it's alot more noticeable than the toilet paper roll which was also visual evidence. Maybe its blood?

...I never even noticed that mark or that the picture was of the victim's left hand. By the way, how do you guys think the balancing toy gave Conan an idea of how it was done?

Spoiler:
Shadow puppet theater, someone at Baidu posted the image below. Basically as the candle burns at both ends and begins to drip, gravity from the dripping wax will pull the candle down at that end. Back and forth, back and forth. Since they know that once the victim is drunk, he is completely unresponsive, the culprit would just have to tie his hands together behind his head and sit him up in the chair between the light source and the tent wall. If the candle was positioned so that it was perfectly in a line between the body, the tent wall, and where everyone else was sitting, and the light source was moving up and down, it would make the shadow look like it was moving up and down. If the balancing item was set with that magazine as a base, then the V pattern would result when one side of the candle finally touches the magazine and the objects holding up the stick would block the path of the flame.
