we might be looking as a house that is built strangely? I wonder how one might pull that off

@ the names "Charles Abel" and "Charlie Abel"


the note book doesn't belong to a "charlie abel" it belongs to the miner
The name on the book is " しゃるる - えいべる " which is " Sharuru Eiberu " which is propperly written in katakana as " シャルル - エイベル "
which is the name of the miner. I have no idea where people got the name Charles Abel from.

Tsurumi explanins: there was a foreigner named Charles Abel that spoke broken Japanese in the excavation team. He was the victim of the cave-in.

The French pronunciation of ‘Charles’ is /ʃaʁl/ (imagine that as ‘Sharl’), so しゃるる and シャルル definitely stand for ‘Charles’.

Although えいべる and エイベル aren’t accurate transliterations of the French (/abəl/), but of the English (/eɪb(ə)l/) pronunciation of ‘Abel’ (an accurate transliteration of the French pronunciation would be あべる and アベル), I think that しゃるる・えいべる and シャルル・エイベル are supposed to represent ‘Charles Abel’, albeit with a minor mistake.

Also, only 40 chapters or about 13 cases to go before the big 1000. I am going to guess that's when Rum will be first shown in manga, but just as a shadow-person and not his identity. Hopefully we will get some real suspects besides obvious fakeout Kuroda and lolnoway Mary.

My prediction has been that Chapter 1000 will be when we finally get the flashback about Shinichi and Ran's first meeting with Sera, although a Rum appearance is also possible. But I feel like finally getting the backstory that's been hinted at for awhile would be a fitting thing to see for the 1000th chapter.

I think that Chapter 1000 will be a case with Conan turning back in Shinichi (for a moment, not eternal) with Ran. Or maybe a clue for Anotaka?

We're supposed to talk about this case and not speculate about what file 1000 could be about because that's still way too long ahead.

I wasnt trying to say that I thought it meant Charlie, I was saying that I thought it wasn't either of those
Charlie was the name that the english translation of the file that is out there used. The reason I posted the pictures
was to show that the name of the miner ( in katakana ) and the name on the book ( in hirigana ) were the same name.
Someone on DCW who saw the english file with "Charlie" and made a comment about the book possibly belonging to
a son of the miner who grew up to be one of the suspects in this case and I posted my comment on both forums.

I was under the assumption that Charles would be written as チャールズ
because I didn't know that Japanese would use the French pronunciation.

And I wasn't expecting Gosho to bother to use the French pronunciation for "Charles" either. Guess he wanted to make it exotic or give us a hint at the miner's origins.

I wasn't meaning to sound like I was being hostile either. I wonder if this is meant to imply that the guy might be French? Earlier when I was thinking that the name was something other than Charles, I kept thinking it might be something like "Sharrel" or "Sherral" which for some reason sounded German to me, even though I don't know that many German names. But at the same time, Charles sounds like a British / American name or does it come from French / France ?
