DCW is down so I can't post there, but I think the note is hiragana Tetsuno. The dead miner wrote the hiragana backwards because he was left handed, and his dominant arm was trapped under the rubble. When you write letters with your non-dominant hand, it's easier to write backwards than forwards. Try it yourself! I also suspect he laid his head sideways while writing. It isn't likely he was writing in English because he wrote on the side of the book furthest from, and based on the tear line, it means he would have been writing English letters upsidedown, which is too damn hard for a dying man to deal with.

Also, only 40 chapters or about 13 cases to go before the big 1000. I am going to guess that's when Rum will be first shown in manga, but just as a shadow-person and not his identity. Hopefully we will get some real suspects besides obvious fakeout Kuroda and lolnoway Mary.

Description of file:
Spoiler:
The "nue" can also mean a type of bird, the Scaly Trush, which was called like that in ancient times because its cry ressembles the one of the mythological monster "Nue" as described in several mythological tales, explains the archeologist. He comments that it isn't supposed to live in this area hence why it's rare to hear one close by.

The writer then suggests the foreigner miner saw that bird: the reporter jumps in and argues that since the miner was in cave there's no way he saw a bird there but the monster.

Heiji: "But it's not like any of the excavation team survivors of the time saw it, did they?"

He says that altogether all this talk about the monster is a load of nonsense but the historian intervenes, talking about how a nue's corpse supposedly fell into the west of Shizuoka Prefecture's Lake Hamana. Hamana City's North District, Mikkabichou Nueshirou, Dozaki, Hanehei and Ona... All these names have their origin in the nue's head, body, wings and tail or a legend claims. It'd seem that the nue's hands and feet fell in Yadori Village as well.

This village had another name in the past by combining (夜, yoru) "night" and (鳥, tori) "bird" it became "Yachou (Night-Bird) Village". But if you combine both Kanji into a single one you get 鵺 (nue).

And this is why this cry doesn't belong to the bird, he says: the chirring stops and the girls want to get out this place right now but Heiji and Conan says that they've been invited all the way here.

Heiji still thinks this tale about the foreigner and the "nue" paper are all fabrications: the Mayor then brings out the paper from an envelope and says that 16 years ago the previous Mayor found it next to the miner's body when they dug it out of the cave-in: it'd been kept safe in the village's office all this time. THere also is an ornamental hairpin.

The girls comment that if that dog they saw earlier is the miner's dog then it must be pretty old.

The ripped page matches the notebook found in the cave and it's got records of the excavations: the Mayor intends to go the cave the next day and show this in front of a camera while making it sound like the buried treasure is here so that'd attract people to the village: he seems more interested in reviving the village then finding the treasure.

The people head for their rooms and the Mayor checks the list of the drinks they'd asked of him to bring.

The historian wants milk & whisky

The archeologoist wants Japanese sake & knob cuttlefish

The writer will have white whine & carbonated water

The reporter will have cola & potato chips

The reporter adds that he doesn't want a glass since he'll drink from the can.

Heiji & co already have 2-3 pet bottles so they don't want anything else.

The girls are worried about being able to properly sleep: the writer suggests they check out the rooms since she found a wizened mouse corpse in her room's desk drawer: the Mayor finds it odd since he himself took care of the cleansing.

The reporter tries to flirt with the girls suggesting they sleep with him: both guys get annoyed and yell at the reporter: the historian, in the meanwhile, finds a letter stuck beneath his room door.

The girls are still hesitant to open the desk drawers but Conan opens one and finds a bundle of notebooks: they open one and finds almost 2 pages filled with the "あ" (a) hiragana. Conan guesses it's the foreigner's notebooks because he wrote his name (in hiragana) behind one of the notebooks.

He then makes another of slips of the tongue saying that "I used to do this a lot when I was a kid!"

Ran: "When I was a kid, you say? But you're a kid, Conan - kun, aren't you?"
Conan: "Ah! You're right!"
Conan (thinking): "Crap!"

Heiji then sees light on the outside, opens the window and looks down: there's fire there and so everyone rushes out. The reporter begins screaming nonsense of the nue showing up along with black smoke: Heiji grumbles but then Conan spots something. And then a large hairy shadow shows up near the "danger! don't come in" banner, bites the banner and runs off.

Heiji orders the Mayor to bring a fire extinguisher while he and Conan will circle the hotel and try to corner the "beast" but they find only the banner with teeth marks on it: they wonder if it ran into the forest or into the pond: Conan spots bloodstains leading to the pond and chases those with Heiji warning him not to fall into the lake: they stumble upon the historian: Heiji at first think he's KO but Conan says he's dead: some of his lower back is exposed and there are some claw-like marks left there.

To be continued...

Don't know why mihuaxueyuan is two days late, but they finally posted spoiler pics:

Maybe we'll get the file today, since today is the release of the file in SS.

You should note that these are not posted by Mihua and that these are not Chinese scanlations, but rather posts of Japanese raws that have shown up in the internet, so we still don't know what progress Mihua is making with the Chinese version.

Yaa, even thou anime didn't involve the manga, I still can't imagine he will doing good this time :p

About tetsuno theory (nue), I don't think Aoyama sensei will use the same trick that he has used before..

estuputri: Movie 21 starring Heiiji & Kazuha is already confirmed.

A piece of advice: never underestimate Gosho for recycling ideas or tricks.

Case speculation below:
Spoiler:
Since now we know the foreigner could write hiragana then it's possible that he might've intended to write "testuno" indeed instead of "nue" and he wrote it like that to mislead.

However, since the Mayor says that the one who picked up the note and had it stored was the previous Mayor then he doesn't seem to be related to the accident of 16 years ago.

I think that the drinks ordered by each of the participants will become a clue later on, maybe some trick to establish an alibi by the culprit?

Yet the rat corpse feels strange: maybe it was a desperate ploy by someone to stop people from rummaging the drawers by making them think there's something disgusting on them? The Mayor says he cleansed the rooms himself and he hadn't seen any rat corpse so it's been brought in recently. So maybe someone wanted to stop the guests from finding the notebooks of the foreigner?

If that's the case then he/she failed miserably since it made one of the guests who happens to have the notebooks check the drawers right away (if I was in such situation I'd run and check the drawers right away too, partly out of curiosity but mainly because if there was such a corpse I wouldn't want it to stay in the room I'd be sleeping in), I agree that it's strange though...

@KaitoRizu:
Spoiler:
I know, this whole rat corpse thing feels odd in the whole picture. Why bother to and what would they achieve?

Like I said before, it wasn't there when the Mayor cleansed the hotel. So unless the Mayor is wrong then someone brought it in recently.

The hairy beast thing is too big to be a dog and the form it vanished is odd: there isn't an explanation as to the source of the fire but sounds like it was done on purpose to lure everyone outside. Alibi trick? A fire the start of which can be controlled?

We don't know how much time passed between the 1st victim, the historian, finding the letter and when Heiji noticed the light of the fire through the window but doesn't seem like it's been too long, only a few minutes' time.

When Heiji runs off yelling "fire!" the other 3 guests (the archaeologist, the reporter and the writer) open their room doors and pop out so they're there. Heiji & Conan come out first followed by Ran and Kazuha and then we can see the 3 guests behind them and the Mayor who joins them at almost the same time.

Then the "beast" appears and we can see that all of them are still there behind Heiji & Conan: it's possible one of them might slip when Heiji & Conan run off to try to catch the "beast" and while Kazuha and Ran try to put out the fire but it seems unlikely since they find the body almost right after that so the body should've been there for a while already. It might be that the letter told the victim to come to the pond and was then attacked from behind by someone or something.

The Mayor wasn't on one of the rooms and he was supposedly working on readying the guests' drinks, he's the one without an alibi when Heiji warned the others and had time: the vic could've come out and the Mayor could've slipped out for a moment to kill them and then return inside.

We'll have to see next file if the police show up or Heiji asks everyone about their alibis: any of the others could've slipped out for a moment to meet with the vic and kill him as well before returning unnoticed.

I was pointing out those same things to a friend yesterday so it seems that we agree with each other, too bad we don't have more information and clues (I'd appreciate some info about the relationship between the case's people because I'm kinda up to something about that but with the lack of info it's just a wild theory) also about the mayor:
Spoiler:
With our current information he's the most suspicious:
He seems to be the last one to arrive and we only see him out of the hotel, we never saw him running out of it so he could've prepared the drinks (which could be partly prepared earlier in order to set an alibi), went out and killed the historian, set up the nue trick and the fire , and joined the rest from the back...
Also since he's the one taking care of the hotel he have the best chance of entering the author's room and putting the rat in her drawer then he could just pretend that he knows nothing about it, but that also means that he could've entered the historian's room and left the message inside it instead of leaving it at the door where it's possible for others to see it... all of this is nothing other than few ideas and wild theories though until we get more information....
Thanks for the SS Kamite! ;D

Yaa, sorry.. there will always a possibility for recycling ideas, though.. ;D

But I still didn't get it.. is he doing miss write or something?
I just to think for another theory..
Or maybe it's about the folklore itself..
I have no idea then :-\
