Indeed, I'd like to moderate the next one. But we Germans aren't silly!

ROUND 2
You may join until Friday, the 12th of March, 23:59 CET. Then the preparation phase will start. The first night will start at Saturday, 22:00 CET (21:00 in London, 18:00 in Buenos Aires, 16:00 in New York, 13:00 in LA, 6:00 in Tokyo, 5:00 in Hongkong and Manila, 2:30 in Delhi and 23:00 in Cairo).

Changes:

• The day will start and end at 22:00 CET, that will be 8 hours before it used to be (so it will be 16:00 for Akonyl), although I hope you will excuse that it might take some time (up to 2 hours) longer on Fridays.
• While the role of the Trickster will not change, the Mafia will now designate a killer every night who will undertake his mission. Yet since they all want to kill, no person may kill a second time if there are still persons left who haven't killed at all. The Trickster will have to choose the killer to stop the Mafia from killing (although choosing, for example, Gin while he's not the killer will still stop him from slandering).
• I will show the votes after lynching.
• I will also not say how many roles are in, but as long as roles remain, there won't be any townsfolk (so if we don't get a huge mass of people (50 or so), there won't be any townsfolk).
• Concrete evidence is forbidden.
• The dead are dead. They don't talk. Not at all. (Although there's a role that is an exception)
• There will be lots of "good" roles, but most of them are weak due to heavy restrictions (one-time use etc.).
• The Mafia has to kill. Otherwise they would get unhappy and bored and would start to fight among themselves.
• There will be a preparation phase before the first night after the start of the game. It will last 22 hours. Most characters will be informed of their roles AFTER this phase is over (the only exceptions are the foreigners, Yumi, Vermouth, 1412, Eri, Sonoko and Matsuda).

Roles
MAFIA
• Gin, Mafia slanderer.
[li]Can slander anyone at night, this will make their "alignment" change to the opposite as far as detectives are concerned (but not Matsuda).
• Has a part in deciding whom to kill.
[/li]
• Vodka/Tequila/Pisco, Mafia member
[li]Has a part in deciding whom to kill.
[/li]
• Anakota, Mafia boss
[li]Cannot be detected by any detective, but can be detected by Matsuda or may be cornered by the Trickster. His identity gets known after death.
• Has the right to make the final decision who of the Mafia kills which townsfolk - although he will hopefully listen to his subordinates (and the rules ;D).
[/li]
• Vermouth, Mafia disguiser
[li]In the preparation phase, she'll choose a player (not a role) to disguise as. She'll be just like this role by any means and will even have his special abilities (if any), yet she still remains a member of the Mafia. If she chooses someone also active in the preparation phase, it will be treated as if she had chosen a commoner. The one she disguised at will get a new role. Her disguise is discovered if she dies, and Matsuda and, under certain circumstances, the Trickster may find out.
• Has a part in deciding whom to kill.
• May choose any time until the end of the third night to ally with the townsfolk instead and leave the Mafia (which she PMs the GM). After that, she simply works like Kaitou Kid (except for his detective ability, but indeed with his may-not-tell restriction).
• May not tell anyone the identities of the other BO members.
• Korn/Chianti/Calvados, Mafia assassin
[li]If they kill at night, they might ignore the protection of Ran or Makoto.
• Have a part in deciding whom to kill.
[/li]
• Bourbon, Mafia detective
[li]You may investigate one player at night, claiming them to be a role (ex: I think Holmes is Araide). You will recieve a true/false verdict (or nothing, if tricked). Note that you must accuse by character name, not role type. So, you can't say "I think Holmes is a Detective(Conan/Heiji)", you have to guess a specific one.
• Has a part in deciding whom to kill.
[/li]

POLICE

• Megure, police leader
[li]May investigate if a certain target committed a certain action (mangaluva killed Callid; Callid tricked Akonyl; Akonyl protected Conia) at night and will get either a right or false. This action cannot be hindered in any way (except by the Trickster), since it doesn't matter if a Vermouth disguised as Ran killed Shinichi or if the true Ran did so - the person who seems to be Ran will be arrested anyway. The slanderer can also slander as much as he want, the police will not get irritated by that.
• May arrest anyone at night for any crime (killing, disguising, slandering, abetting a murder), even after taking another action. Again, the action has to be specified (mangaluva helped Conia in killing Callid). However, if the person did NOT commit the crime it has been accused of, the police officer has to leave the police (becoming a commoner) and his identity gets revealed. An arrested person may still talk freely and its identity remains secret, but it's otherwise considered dead (and can therefore not get killed).
• May order a house search at night. This action cannot be hindered, since even the Trickster can't trick the many police officers involved in the search. This will reveal everything about the target, all its doings since the start of the game, its disguise, role etc.. However, if the target did not commit a crime, Megure is forced to leave the police, becoming a commoner and his identity gets revealed.
• Satou/Takagi/Shiratori, police officer
[li]May investigate if a certain target committed a certain action (mangaluva killed Callid; Callid tricked Akonyl; Akonyl protected Conia) at night and will get either a right or false. This action cannot be hindered in any way (except by the Trickster), since it doesn't matter if a Vermouth disguised as Ran killed Shinichi or if the true Ran did so - the person who seems to be Ran will be arrested anyway. The slanderer can also slander as much as he want, the police will not get irritated by that.
• May arrest anyone at night for any crime (killing, disguising, slandering, abetting a murder). Again, the action has to be specified (mangaluva killed Callid). However, if the person did NOT commit the crime it has been accused of, the police officer has to leave the police (becoming a commoner) and his identity gets revealed. An arrested person may still talk freely and its identity remains secret, but it's otherwise considered dead (and can therefore not get killed).
[/li]

FBI/CIA

• Akai, Hunter
[li]May kill someone else when killed.
• Since he's a superb investigators, he may investigate up to three actions (see POLICE). But since he is from the US and not from Japan, he may not arrest anyone.
[/li]

• Jodie/James/Camel, FBI agents
[li]Since they are superb investigators, they may investigate up to three actions (see POLICE). But since they are from the US and not from Japan, they may not arrest anyone.
[/li]
• Kir, CIA NOC
[li]Is a member of the BO and present at their meetings. She may also have a part in the decision whom to kill, and will be considered BO by the detectives (but not Matsuda). If she is asked to commit the killing, she may disobey.
• Has another code name (so that the BO can't detect her by telling everyone to reveal the code name - in DC it wouldn't work).
• May leave the organisation at any time to become a CIA agent (works like an FBI agent).
• May not tell anyone the identities of the other BO members.

OTHERS

• Shinichi/Conan/Heiji, Meitantei
[li]May interrogate anyone at night, and will get either an "BO" or "Not BO" result.
• May also choose to investigate actions instead, in this case he may investigate up to three actions (see POLICE). Since he's not with the police, he mustn't arrest anyone.
[/li]
• Hakuba, foreign Meitantei
[li]Does not reside in Japan. As long as he does not decide to travel to Japan (which will need either the following day or night), he is handled as if he were arrested. He may also leave Japan at any time, to the same conditions as above.
• May interrogate anyone at night, and will get either an "BO" or "Not BO" result.
• Since he's not familiar with anyone, he may not investigate. Nobody would tell him anything.
[/li]
• Ran, Protector
[li]May choose to protect any number of person at day. If one of the protected persons is going to get lynched, she will jump in and sacrifice herself for the protected individual. Therefore the meant-to-be-lynched stays alive (and his identity remains secret) while Ran dies.
• May also choose one individual to protect at night. If said individual is about to be killed by the BO, Ran again sacrifices herself for the individual. The protected individual then learns the identity of the attacker (!). If the doctor decided to heal the protected one, he is also close enough to heal Ran instead and will do so.
• Can not be protected from the self-sacrifice.
• If tricked while protecting, the protection will not simply fail, but both Ran and the protected will die.
[/li]
• Makoto, foreign protector
[li]Does not reside in Japan. As long as he does not decide to travel to Japan (which will need either the following day or night), he is handled as if he were arrested. He may also leave Japan at any time, to the same conditions as above.
• May choose to protect any number of person at day. If one of the protected persons is going to get lynched, he will jump in and stop the lynching. Since he's much better in self-defence than Ran, he will not die in the process. Therefore the meant-to-be-lynched stays alive (and his identity remains secret).
• May also choose one individual to protect at night. If said individual is about to be killed by the BO, he again protectes the individual. The protected individual and Makoto then learn the identity of the attacker (!).
• If tricked while protecting, the protection will fail, but Makoto will still stay alive and learn the attackers identity.
• Can protect only once (if his protection was not needed, he can simply go on protecting). After he successfully protected (or was tricked and failed), he will get called away instantly to a Karate championship and can not return to Japan for the rest of the game.
[/li]
• Araide, doctor
[li]May choose one individual to heal. If this individual (and/or his protector) gets killed, he can heal him so that said individual will not die. Can heal himself. If he heals someone who gets attacked, everyone involved (except the BO man) will know that there was an attack and that is was healed (also Protectors).
[/li]
• Agasa, inventor
[li]Bow-tie: As the inventor of the bow-tie, he can lend it to anyone for a night except for himself (the individual has to return it). Someone in possession of the bow-tie can act if he were Conan and can choose to interrogate or investigate.
• Watch: He can also lend the bow-tie to anyone for one night except for himself (it has to be returned). Someone in possession of the Watch is protected from the BO as if he were protected by Ran or Makoto, but he needs to fire from the distance so he does not get to see the attacker's face and will therefore not learn his identity.
• Neither the recipient of Watch or bow-tie nor Agasa learn each others identity (so Ctu as Agasa will give the Watch to "conia", and conia alias Ran will receive it from "Agasa".
• He may lend both to the same person. While he has to decide whom he'll give it to during the day, he might include (ordered) alternatives in case the one he chose gets lynched.
[/li]
• Sherry(Ai), shrunken scientist
[li](Variant 1:)May use her APTX4869 to shrink anyone at night. Now this person cannot be arrested anymore and loses all special abilities (yet his/her identity isn't revealed). If this person was a member of the BO, (s)he will now join the townspeople and work together with Sherry to find the antidote to the APTX.
• (Variant 2:)Has a strong sense of the BO. She may accompany anyone at night and day (therefore she's able to accompany two people from morning to morning). The accompanied will learn that Ai accompanied him. If the accompanied is either Akai, Kir or from the BO, Ai will get the impression that he's from the BO, and will learn through the strength of the scent if the target is one of the leading members (Gin, Vermouth, Anakota, Bourbon). Ai cannot be fouled by a disguise or by a slander.
[/li]
• 1412, master thief
[li]In the preparation phase, he'll choose a player (not a role) to disguise as. He'll be just like this role by any means and will even have its special abilities (if any). If he chooses someone also active in the preparation phase, he will be treated as if he had chosen a commoner. The one he disguised as will get a new role. His identity is revealed when he dies.
• Does also have investigative abilities, just like a FBI agent.
• If any member of the police force learned his identity, he would instantly arrest him. Therefore 1412 may not tell his identity to anyone. But he might act as if he were an FBI agent.
[/li]
• Kogoro, drunk private detective
[li]May interrogate anyone at night, but will get random results.
• However, if either Eri, Ran or Conan/Shinichi dies, he'll get sober and get the normal powers of the meitanteis.
[/li]
• Sonoko, best friend
[li]May choose someone to be her best friend in the preparation phase. She learns everything he knows, and may pretend to be him in public so that he's save. If he's killed, she learns the attacker's identity. They both are aware of each others identity. If her best friend is in the BO (except Kir), she'll join as well.
[/li]
• Yumi, Amor
[li]Chooses one or two pairings (depending on the number of players) in the preparation phase. They become lovers, and either kills himself if the other dies. No protector can protect a lover from suicide and no healer can heal him/her afterwards.
• Also chooses the Poor Lover. (S)He is in love with one of the lovers, but the target of his/her love isn't. If the targeted gets killed, both the true lover and the Poor one kill themselves. However, if the other lover is killed, the targeted one will be hindered from suicide by the Poor Lover, and they become lovers afterwards.
[/li]
• Eri, lawyer
[li]Can bring back everyone who has been arrested with a lawsuit at night.
• Vermouth can not disguise as Eri (to avoid that the BO brings back everyone who's in prison ;)).
[/li]
• Eisuke, Trickster
[li]Can choose someone at night to trick. If this person takes an action during the night, this action will not work. To prevent the Mafia from killing someone, he'll have to choose the designated killer.
• While the detectives' abilities are restrained, Eisuke can trick almost everyone. That's his great advantage.
[/li]
• Matsuda, sort of ghost
[li]Is dead for all means, except that his identity is unknown. He may not communicate with anyone directly or per PM or post in the topic.
• Can "haunt" five people each night. He will afterwards learn their true identities. He can't be tricked or in another mortal way be hindered from achieving this goal.
• Can also choose to appear in uo to two persons' dreams instead of haunting someone. In this case he can tell those person anything he wants in the dreams, but the dreams must not be exactly the same. Afterwards he learns the persons' identities. Of course, some persons will have dreams without his interference, so even if you're told something in your dream, it mustn't be that this is Matsuda's acting - but if three of you dream in a row that Conia is Vermouth, you should give it thought.
[/li]

If you want, I'm sure I can invent other roles, but those should be enough.

I thought of 48 hours because 24 seemed to short (and nothing in between is possible). After all, the game got much more complicated due to the huge amount of roles. We can take the short day, but I can tell you that it will be an advantage for the BO  ::)

Neither nor. He can't vote for lynching, and he can't be killed. Actually, he can not even have any influence on the physical world at all and can only communicate through dreams. The BO wins even if he's still active - after all, he is already dead.
Of course, he'll be noticed soon by the others, through his silence and not-voting, but that doesn't change much - he's still unable to communicate and cannot get killed.

Postby Akonyl » March 10th, 2010, 1:25 pm

cool beans.

Akonyl (?)

BUT OF COURSE

sign me up.

but also, a few things:

the Foreigners: do people know when they come in/out of japan? And by "the following day/night", does that mean that if I decide to go to japan on Day 2, will I be able to perform actions on Night 3, or Day 3? Also, while not in japan, they can't vote on lynching right?

Kir: When she's disguised as a role in the BO, is she able to use their ability? Also, if she's in the BO, does she win if the BO wins or does she need the townsfolk to win?

Makoto: you still have the "her" from Ran's description :P

Araide: you may want to clarify what type of knowledge is revealed/not revealed when he heals someone (like, will the victim know they were attacked, will araide know the victim was attacked)

Agasa: When does he choose who to loan it to? If it's during the night, what if he can't loan it in time to be useful? If during the day, what if the person he wants to loan it to gets lynched?
you also call the watch a bowtie :P

1412: she, loles

Eri: When does she do a lawsuit action, during night or day?

Postby Akonyl » March 10th, 2010, 1:31 pm

also regarding matsuda, how will the dreams work? Will matsuda basically just say "tell him that akonyl is gin, holmes is Shinichi", and during hte dream it'll say "you have a dream about akonyl being gin, and holmes being shinichi"? Also, when we get "fake" dreams, will it just be the same thing, just random mostly-false facts?

edit: oh, and to avoid a triple-post:

if the players don't know that someone is a foreigner (and thus not in japan), if the BO tries to kill a foreigner who isn't in japan, what happens?

FOREIGNERS
No, we don't know that they are here - unless we can deduce it from the voting stats. If they decide to go to Japan on Day 2, they will be there on Day 3. And they can only vote or get killed when they are there. Even the BO can not travel to England and find and kill Hakuba that fast. He can also not be interrogated etc. - it's the same as if he were arrested.

KIR
She'll get one of the no-ability ones. After all, there are a few^^
Oh, and she is townsfolk - she'll lose if she's left with the BO, even if it's only one person.

MAKOTO
Fixed.

ARAIDE
See post.

AGASA
He has to decide during the day. He's asleep at night!^^ But he might include the possibility that someone dies, so he could, for example, make a sort of Highscore who should get it.

ERI
Night^^

MATSUDA
Matsuda should describe the dream as far as he wants it to be. Whether if that includes a dream-self talking, or disguising persons, is his choice (Although I'll put a limit to it if it's something that wouldn't happen in a normal dream, like Matsuda's dream-self telling the player over and over that he is INDEED Matsuda. It's a dream, after all.). And yes, the other dreams will be just the same.
So one person alone cannot tell if it's a Matsuda- or a random dream, but if three people in a row dream that Conia is Vermouth, they might start thinking (after all, dreams can safely be told in the topic - they don't deliver any information to the BO). I just changed it so that he can send two (at least slightly) different dreams in one night.
The random dreams are also my only way to balance the game if one side is overwhelmingly strong. After all, we have many never-tried characters and don't know how they'll work.

Alrighty then. Although if Matsuda is making up an actual dream, the writing style of the player might be recognizable, to distinguish it from a fake, unless you're gonna try to mimic their style?

Also, if Matsuda haunts someone repeatedly on subsequent nights with the same exact dream is that allowed? And will reoccurring dreams happen normally?

just want to get this role fleshed out, because it's one of hte more complex ones in rules imo

Yes, his role is indeed a complex - and, as I believe - very interesting one.

I hope he won't write books about a dream. I thought about five lines or so, and I'll of course take a look at it and make sure that the words and the spelling aren't the thing of interest, but the content.
no, he mustn't give someone the same the dream again (each dream has to be unique), but he may choose, for example, three different settings that all point to Conia as Vermouth.
His role is simply that of a know-(almost)-all, who has to find a way to make sure his cryptic messages are understand the way he wants them to be understood.
If  ;), :D, ;D, ::), :P, :-X, :o or >:D are attached, that paragraph may not be 100% serious. Seriously.
