As shuukichi/conan are trying to figure out the location, DB calls Subaru for help, and it turns into Shuukichi/Conan VS Subaru/DB! After yumi is saved, subaru stays until shuukichi wins, MG sees turning point of when shuukichi wins, and just as sera returns from the ramen restaurant, MG asks her to take her to the shogi tournament, and as soon as she sees shuukichi, voila!
Sera just standing there shocked at the fact her bro even played shogi, while subaru is happy for him at the sidelines... :P
That'd do just as well. ;D

This case could've had so many interactions—in fact, considering how things have gone, in the manga, Shukichi's introduction into the story and Yumi's kidnapping might as well not have happened until just before the Ramen case (August 2015). He could've been introduced after Gosho's March–May 2015 break, and the Shogi case could've happened right before the Ramen case.

Add in Rei/Tooru and Shukichi being friends, and you've got pretty much maximum potential for interaction, in that case.
true!
What Gosho doesn't realize is that he can develop many characters in manga through many interactions, and still make slow progression of the plot as a whole(while making new unnecessary mysteries pop up, and why not throw in extra redherrings!)
That way, there will be less "filler-cases" in the manga,... for example, why not throw in Sera in the zombie case, and conan telling heiji about RUM?

Exactly.

Why not have cases with just character development and cases with just plot be combined? We can still have regular DB cases... but then crap hits the fan, Desperate Revival style (well, not always like that, but... ;) ).

This could've applied to all the arcs before the Bourbon arc, as well, even though, back then, far more cases and were connected to each other, and there were many recurring characters (the latter especially in the Conan arc).

I can't imagine Gosho suddenly making Gin a complex character by having his feelings for Shiho be more than obsession.

But we still don't know very much, so...

I would truly appreciate it if Gosho did put the effort to drag gin away from his shell of darkness and into the gray zone!
but yeah,...I guess we have to wait for backstory/flashback/reunion...

After the reveal that Bourbon was PSB, I think people are extremely wary (and that's probably an understatement) of another gray character. They want a hardcore villain—they want Rum to be one, and they like that Gin is that type of villain. Him turning out not to be just that?... it probably wouldn't turn out so good.

I understand what you mean but my definition of gray seems to be different from what others are thinking...
Gin can still be a hardcore villain, but by developing his characterization so that the us fans can get a glimpse on how that twisted mind of a HUMAN being was created, gosho could make him far more threatning than he already is!

Exactly, so you kinda see him in the gray zone for once at that time when he wasn't as obsessed or as cold-hearted as he is now(unless he was born as a intelligent psychopath)! Because I always want for DC to stay in touch with reality as it moves on through its fictional path

He seemed pretty vicious—secretive criminal organization member, of course—against Shinichi (1/1), and against Akemi (16/128), or when he was going to blow up that bullet train to keep a deal secret (33–35/5), or when he blew up that bar Tequila was meeting the intended victim of the Nintendo (excuse me, Mantendo) conference murder (112–114/54).

He probably went from cold-hearted and sadistic to cold-hearted, sadistic, and obsessive once Shiho/Sherry escaped. Question is, did Gin love her, or was he just lusting after her? Did she love him, or was she too afraid to stop him from making moves on her, and going even further than that?
