Spoiler:
So I read the english scans and the Ran series was below average. It's fine though if he left it at that, but I don't agree with having a second point of view. We could have got another case *PLOT* instead.
Having several view points on an event is indeed a nice and creative idea but would have worked better in another case.
I worked for a while with kids....an no. NO. That's not how 4 years old kids act. Jealousy and crying over nothing is fine, but GOD Shinichi is not a normal phenomenon among pre-schoolers.

This story was boring enough, Gosho just had to make it a 4 part-case

Also, seems like no one on this thread remembers themselves when they were 4 years old

So we just have a confirmation that Shinichi since the cradle calls everybody who is a wee bit less smarter than he is an idiot. He must have had a very bad parents...

But we didn't. Gosho is doing what he's been doing for the past eight years—for your sake and everyone else who takes issue with this, I hope that what the Bourbon arc started has payoff, and the wait is worthwhile.

Doesn't he use the not insulting word, "baka," instead of "ahou?" (the latter of which I probably misspelled) He uses that word even when it has nothing to do with situations involving intelligence/intellect. Yusaku's and Yukiko's parentage is another matter, entirely.

Shinichi didn't call anyone an idiot...Ran called him idiot and stupidhead in the files according to the translations, but not the other way around. He called her crybaby, true, because she cried. Once.

Calling all people around as "Fool" isn't nice either ;).

Oh, I see now he calls Sonoko an idiot. Where does he call everyone a fool though?

Heiji, during their first meeting; Ran, during quite a few of their phone conversations; the Detective Boys, including Shiho/Ai, when he thinks they're doing something reckless; culprits, such as the one in Shinichi's First Love case. He's being less insulting than he could be—for the people he knows well, they don't seem to be particularly offended when he uses it.

Oh, I thought he meant in these chapters and not in general.

idk why everyone seems to disagree with the fact that shinichi does not act according to a " normal 4 year old " considering the fact that he never had normal upbringing by his parents as they themselves were not ordinary people.Shinichi's father is a famous mystery novelist and his mother was an actress, therefore he might have had a childhood which was different from a normal person's ,not to ignore the fact that he lives in a house filled with mystery novels and he might have spent his time reading them since he learnt to read, therefor his behavior may be inspired by the detectives in the novels because it was clear that he had no friends before he went to school.

But still in shinichi's perspective we can see him struggling to put on a cool face in front of ran and the other children even when he was feeling really nervous and the reason of him feeling insecure of the teacher was because of the way he was looking at his mother/ran not because he was acting like an adult even though that behavior too may be justified.

IO hope this clears the issue :) :)

Guys, it's normal Shinichi doesn't act like a 4 years old

He's a genius, most geniuses can read at that age

Look at what amazing things child prodigies can do:

Shinichi is just one of those people I guess

yeah. I completely agree with you. Shinichi is one of the gifted children. That's why he is able to read Sherlock Holmes even at this age. His parents are intelligent and there is no point in blaming his parents for that arrogant attitude

Is that even a proper Sherlock Holmes book or is it a version for kids, made very easy to understand? Do we even know whether or not he understands it? He seems to get the concept that Sherlock is cool, but how much else does he comprehend?

I don't think being a genius has anything to do with learning how to read and write.

I was able to read and write at the age of 3, yet I'm far from being a genius.
