I read the spoilers earlier so I already knew what was going to happen but it's still a great read I'm looking forward to the next file in two weeks.

Judging from this chapter, I have a big feeling yukiko knew who shiho was before she met her!! (Though i doubt she is Elena's sister)

Conan wondered why yukiko was good at making the haibara disguise for him, even though she met haibara only once(that time)... (and conan claims she is especially good at making disguises of people she is close to, like her husband)

A couple of things I want to mention about this file.

KIIIRRRRRR!

Akai is now definitely alive and has been mentioned and identified BY NAME amongst a large group of police officers on a fairly extensive officially-sanctioned police operation--one that will be reported to the higher-ups, even. All it would take is one person, one report, falling into the wrong hands and Kir is done for. #TeamConan better have a really good plan in place because otherwise it really comes off like not only has Gosho forgotten her, but so has everyone in the series. Vermouth has already stolen this kind of thing before, so it seems absurd for Conan to predict Amuro being Secret Police and to predict all that stuff would happen and then somehow anticipate that every person involved outside of Amuro would be not just trustworthy but fully competent with the knowledge that Akai wasn't dead.

I think this is one case in which the fans actually way out-thought Gosho in several key and meaningful respects. The idea with the reporters/editors hounding Yuusaku was brilliant and would have served as an excellent callback. I didn't even think of it originally, but after hearing it, I posted several times something like, "If Gosho didn't do this, he's been outdone by a fan." Those guys outside actually just being cops was the completely obvious route and was the first one we suggested, so not many of us expected it to be true. I'm not sure what kind of undercover Black Organization operative we're expected to think Amuro is when he's hanging around with the police so much and still gets called by his actual name out in the open. The only logical excuse for this is he's all Departed-like and the Black Org know that he's in the police and put there by them. This raises all sorts of other problems, as mentioned in a post a couple of pages ago I made, so I'll leave it here.

We're still on Kir Watch 2014 here, folks.

From story perspective, having yet another BO member turn out to be an agent of some secret force is super disappointing and also underwhelming the BO even more than before. It also makes the entire Bourbon arc feel even more unnecessary because we barely gained or achieved anything (besides more of the same from before). I also feel like we're left in a very awkward position story-wise (hopefully the next case or file 900 will fix this somehow). All in all, I'm disappointed with this "confrontation" and I don't feel we got a well deserved payoff for this extremely long arc (about a third of the manga as of now). All the clashes in this arc have been really disappointing or filled with jarring flaws.
For this confrontation in particular, there wasn't much suspense or tension, and having Conan's team filled with all the aces made it feel like Conan is in the position of power. Also, the disguises...

And personally, I still wonder where the hell the Macademy awards thing took place in order to make sense out of this "live" mess.

Ehm... what Bourbon said is that he's gonna inform his superiors about what happened there, as one would expect an undercover agent to do every once in a while. Those are the same people who've been aware that Bourbon's allegiance isn't with the Organization for a long time. They're police officers, but they are working on intelligence related matters, as I understand it. This isn't the kind of file Takagi or Megure could get their hands on. It's classified and they seem to have successfully kept any information regarding their operative from Black Organization members. I don't see how this would present problems concerning Kir.

This is a large police operation--not just a couple of guys doing Amuro a solid. This is something that will be recorded and will be known by a great deal of people in said police force. All of these people now know far, far, far too much information for Kir to in any way be safe whatsoever. The amount of people who knew Akai was still alive went from a handful of tried and trusted confidants (Conan, Yukiko, Yuusaku, Agasa, etc) to at least twenty if not thirty, forty, fifty, or more in the course of this one event--all people that they do not know and people who do not know the importance of keeping Akai's appearance secret. Any one of them could accidentally reveal details of the operation and any of their files could at any point fall into the wrong hands. This is all without considering that all the Black Organization and Gin need to hear is the name "Akai" and she's done for, and on top of all this suspiciously happening at Raiha Pass, and the damage done to the police cars there that won't just be swept under the rug without any leakage.

As an aside to correct something: Amuro wasn't talking about reporting in as just an undercover agent. He was saying he would explain the mess that came out of it to their superiors--everyone's superiors--to absolve them of any blame. This wasn't just giving an update on his undercover work; this was talking responsibility for the damages and explaining what he was up to (though to what extent we'll not learn). None of this changes how many people now know Akai is alive and how none of those people can be accounted for going forward.

To put it simply: There is no possible way for Conan or anyone else in his circle to account for all of these other people. The entire genesis for this arc was introducing Kir, the "wedge of steel" that'd be impossible to remove, into the Black Organization. Playing with not just that asset but her life willy-nilly without even once having anyone involved acknowledge that danger is worrisome, to say the least. It doesn't matter if we're talking about the CIA, the FBI, the Secret Police, or the Tokyo Metropolitan Police: These are large organizations and exposing such large organizations to this kind of thing is obviously not good. Thus far, we have not yet seen anything that indicates the extent of Conan and Akai's planning for what's just transpired. If it turns out like the rest of this just did, well... Hello, Mystery Train.

It's definitely unfortunate Gosho didn't even begin to acknowledge any of that. I'm starting to think he may have made an oversight with regard to the timing. It was clearly taking place where Yukiko would have to travel somewhere special for it. If it were somehow being held in Japan (which it definitely wasn't), it'd definitely be in Tokyo or Osaka. I'm not sure they'd need to mention the plane if it was that close, given the proximity to Tokyo and Osaka is just a bit away by train. Gosho went out of his way to make it a Hollywood equivalent, so Los Angeles is the obvious location. Yet, the timing is just... suspect, to put it lightly.

What I was most displeased with here was that we just went through all this trouble to convince Amuro that Okiya wasn't Akai, and yet confirmed that Akai was alive not just to Amuro but tens of others. I'm guessing this is so Akai can slip back into his Okiya persona, but that ultimately seems really underwhelming given how many people now know he's alive in the first place.
