Discussion Thread: Detective Conan Files 894-898: Scarlet Series!

This arc has been the most fun in quite a while for a lot of reasons..

Since there has been a lot of talk about the spoilers spoiling the shock value, I thought I would try shock you all with this faux spoiler.

Remember a few hundred files ago we saw Okiya drinking bourbon in Kudo's home (a bottle of Maker's Mark) .. well it turns out Aoyama has pulled a kansas city shuffle on the readers in THIS arc !!!:

The confrontation between Okiya and Amuro in the Kudou mansion is kinda similar to Sherlock and Jim Moriarty's 'talk' in Sherlock's apartment.

1. Subaru/Sherlock expected Amuro/Moriarty coming.
(You might want to think how Subaru saw this happening right then and there. Bugged?)
2. Subaru/Sherlock served tea. Them opposite each other.
3. Very classy meeting, no barbaric actions.
4. Deduction talks.

By the end of this arc, I expect Amuro to force Okiya to commit suicide, by threatening Jodie and Camel's life under his henchmen. Ending up Amuro killing himself. LOL.

apparently, the rules about not harassing DCTP staff for translations are strict, u should hold back a little and only ask if the chapter(raw) is being serialized instead, which in that case is no, since shonen jump m. Isn't serializing any chapters this week! !

That scene is based off of the famous conversation between Holmes and Moriarty in the story: The Final Problem--which is what that episode "The Reichenbach Fall" is based off of. They actually did a pretty good job of putting a modern twist on it with Sherlock. Although if I recall correctly, the famous lines "All that I have to say has already crossed your mind." and "Perhaps my answer has already crossed yours." were said in a previous episode.

I'm sure Gosho is drawing at least a little bit of inspiration off of that.

In fact, this whole arc has a very Holmesian feel to it. This isn't new information by any means, but just a few examples off of the top of my head:

1) Raiha Pass is an homage to Reichenbach Falls, where Holmes faked his death, much like Shu.
2) The conversation that's taking place in the Kudo house. Unfortunately, it probably won't end up being the real Okiya.
3) Akai's smarter brother appearing. Sherlock's smarter brother Mycroft.
etc.

It's interesting that Gosho is drawing so many parallels between Holmes and Akai, when I thought it was Conan/Shinichi whom he was trying to make the "modern day Holmes". Maybe that calls back to Vermouth saying something along the lines of "There can only be one Silver Bullet."

Or, it would be funny (and infuriating in a way) if the Okiya at the Kudo's house ended up being Shinichi, who had taken an antidote, and then disguised as his father by using a fake mustache, and then disguised as Okiya--who's supposed to be the disguise of Akai.

891-892 are out in Japanese, obviously. We wouldn't have 894-895 otherwise.
896 is not yet out in anyform.

Everything will be done very shortly and you won't have to worry about anything missing. I'm not on the manga team, but I expect you will be able to read them in full long before you have to worry about 896. Of course, there are always a lot of t's to cross and i's to dot, so just hang in there and know the team will deliver the quality you expect as they always do.

I completely forgot about the middle brother during this arc, but I think it would be brilliant to reveal him in this series as a means to outsmart Amuro or just help out the good guys in any other way. It would be like killing two bird in one shot:
1) Revealing a new face that's been hiding for a while now
2) Adding a new variable to this BO equation (which I hope lasts as long as Red Vs Black)to maybe turn things around.

if u think that DC is ending, just because of some major story development, you're sadly mistaken!!!!! Too much of the story is unsettled!!

I should have referenced the original story then. I didn't know that S & M had that kind of talk in the original.

As other people have pointed out, there is significance in the television program that 'Okiya-san' is watching. And notice the positioning, Amuro is directly facing the TV while 'Okiya' is behind it (considering that he is the one who wanna 'watch' it). What does 'Okiya' want Amuro to see in the footage, or who?

And what's with the title adjective 'Scarlet', it's more than just the color Red, it's scarlet, a bloody red. Bloody showdown! ^^
