My favorite strategy is to just pick people off one by one.
Let's do that!

I actually have an idea for how to decide who I'll vote for now! I think it'd be fair to at least consider voting for someone who hasn't posted in the topic by the time the round ends, right? I mean... it's possible they have SOMETHING TO HIDE otherwise--!...

"By the time the round ends"? As in the game or the phase? Either way, it doesn't solve the dilemma of who to vote for Day 1.
I stand by what I said.

I honestly can't think of anything else but voting randomly, especially since this is day 1 and we have zero information :x

Or we could all just start at the top of our lists and work our way down. I don't have a good strategy for this at all. It's interesting, actually, especially since we can't PM one another to form alliances and whatnot. But do we really need alliances when there's only one spy...? It's quite the conundrum, isn't it?

Re: ESPIONAGE: Round One (Day 1: Send in those votes!!)
Well we could just state our role. In theory, this would mean we could maybe get something out of how people lie, but all it would mean is that everyone would call themselves a civilian.
I was going through the avatars on page 1 and for a second, I thought there were exactly 3 Conans. I had this crazy theory that maybe Conan is a civilian and both the Detective and Spy disguised as him but no...more than 3 Conan avatars.
I almost have to assume we're gonna know nothing until after the vote.

And just think: While we're sitting around considering what to do, the Spy is deciding which person to kill... to murder... to execute...

But if they have something to hide, would they actually have to hide themselves?Jd- wrote: I actually have an idea for how to decide who I'll vote for now! 18 of us have lists, so it's not zero information. And if you try to be creative--.Nix wrote:I honestly can't think of anything else but voting randomly, especially since this is day 1 and we have zero information :x

Question: How are the special roles decided? The GM picks them or there's some kind of random event (say 2-number random generator)?

Re: ESPIONAGE: Round One (Day 1: Send in those votes!!)
[How the roles and lists were determined]
Firstly, before the game, based on the amount of players, it was decided the lists sent to each civilian would be of 7 total players (the Spy and Detective of course don't get a list). All roles and lists are completely randomized through Random.org. All of the names are put in, and the GM decides, "OK, after 7 randomizations, whoever is numbers #3 and #8 will be the Spy and Detective respectively." That sort of system. For the lists, they are randomized using a similar procedure, where every, say, fourth randomization, the top 7 on the list are considered one list. If the player the list is for is in the list, they are swapped out for #8. If the list contains either the Detective player OR the Spy player (OR both), the list is considered valid and is sent to the receiving civilian. If the list is invalid (doesn't contain at least one of the Spy or Detective), it's scrapped for a new randomization to get a valid one.

Re: ESPIONAGE: Round One (Day 1: Send in those votes!!)
although it's said to be random, it is by default that when nobody votes, the one on the top of their list will be voted. so it is unlikely that the spy is the first on the list or else this game is done in one day but then again everybody might have a different person on the top of their list so in that case if everybody votes for whoever is on the top of their list, the results of the votes will probably be a tie of 18 people which then will lead to no arrest and only one definitive death... there is also the risk of arresting the detective so do not solely rely on the list fellow players. if everybody agrees on voting the very first person on their list, we can already reduce the suspect to two. we will be relying to the detective's instinct and the luck that the spy will be voting for the wrong person. bare in mind that this will only be effective if everybody has a different person on the top of their list.

1. Civilian D
2. Civilian E
3. Civilian A
4. Civilian B
5. Spy
6. Civilian C
7. Civilian F
What I can say for sure is that the lists are completely random. The Spy/Detective could be in the top slot or the bottom slot; no adjustments were made for that. Everyone's list is also completely different, so if everyone just votes the top of their list, there's a very little chance that the Spy will be the one voted since 6 of the 7 on a list will be a civilian. Additionally, the Spy may not actually even be on the list and the list could be just civilians and the Detective. Most importantly, though: "Civilian D" in this example could show up on the top of say, 3 of the 18 lists even though they're a civilian. Randomization can just lead to something like that.

Because, honestly, I can't usually come up with anything pertinent to say, so I just choose to watch for awhile until something interesting comes up.
