Scottish Doctors nearly always lose their accent. It's a real shame IMO so I'm pretty glad Capaldi gets to keep his. (I have to say I'm not entirely sure what Barrowman's actual accent is though, but Wikipedia says he's bidialectal and I've heard him in both a Scottish accent, an American accent and one weird time (think it was on some sort of panel show?) using a mixture of the two so. Well, apparently with his parents he uses Scottish? Ah, wait, this vid seems to explain it well, though I'm wondering how exactly he doesn't appear to get fed up with people constantly asking about his heritage.)

And the 456 are now my headcanon Station Management. I was looking back at if Capaldi's previous roles in DW and Torchwood had a Scottish accent so.

Barrowman was born in Glasgow but brought up in America and apparently put a lot of work into developing an American accent so kids would stop picking on him. But whenever he does break out his Wegie, it's beautiful.

And I still maintain that if Christopher Eccleston got to sound like he was from north London, David Tennant should have been allowed to sound like he's from midlothian. Lots of planets have a north, you know...

Yeah but it's pretty hard for foreigners to understand, especially when we're not used to it :)

Wasn't it Tennant's choice though..? He barely ever uses his accent in roles as far as I have seen, though he makes an excellent Casanova *w*... If you really want him Scottish then you could have told him to stay David McDonald as an actor :V.

He couldn't stay David McDonald because there was already an actor in the acting union that he joined with that name, so he picked a new surname off his favourite beer XD

But seriously, I don't get what's so hard to understand about Peter Capaldi's accent...? It's no stronger than Christopher Eccleston's, and nobody told HIM he couldn't have an accent because it would be hard for foreigners to understand...

I'm actually surprised a lot of people found it difficult to understand Capaldi. I understood what he said perfectly.
On the other hand, I'm not good at distinguishing accents, so I had no clue Capaldi's accent was "different".

Actually... I had the same :V. I'm only just starting to hear differences in a few English accents, but I'm in no way a pro at distinguishing the Scottish ones... (to me Irish and Scottish sound about the same really... And I thought Capaldi just sounded English...)
Though he was talking very soft at points which to me made it a bit hard to hear what he said, but not impossible :P
