Both were brilliant as Magneto. Ian actually sent shivers down my spine during his more cruel moments.

Conan-chandesune wrote:Well, updates on the other movies.

ASM 2: The Osborns, MJ, Electro, Rhino and a mystery female woman have been cast. Like the USM video game, there will be a Times square fight scene. Gwen dresses VERY similarly to ASM#122 and MJ and Gwen's meeting is reminiscent of ASM#25.

Wolverine: Trailers have come. See them. I didnt have much hope, but i was blown away by the International trailer.

X-Men Days of Future Past: This thing has got me worried. It has 3 academy winners and 3 nominees. And a LARGE CAST. As in:
Storm
Sunspot/Sunfire (not confirmed which)
Beast
Iceman
Wolverine
Blink
Xavier (Past/Future)
Magneto (Past/Future)
Mystique
Rogue
Kitty Pryde
Colossus
Bishop
Peter Dinklage's mystery character (Trask maybe?)
These three are UNCONFIRMED as far as i know:
Havok
Banshee
Cyclops

So either this one will skyrocket or Fail, in EPIC proportions. I have Faith in Singer as X-men 2 is still in my TOP ten list, and i have seen a LOT of movies.
wow, that list of characters...I really hope it comes out as a really good movie, can't wait to see the first trailer...do you have any idea when will we be seeing it?
Filming started two weeks ago. It will complete in mid-august. Then post-production for at least two months. So, we will have to wait till november for a teaser, i think.

Also, the costumes of the movie are very similar to those of the TV show Wolverine and the X-men, of the <Future> cast.

One post about the Thor 2 trailer that I've seen going around a LOT (aside from Loki's hair) is how Thor suddenly looks like Qui-Gon Jinn, which he actually kind of does with his longer hairstyle and that robe thing he's wearing in a lot of the shots.

Then I saw someone add to it "yeah and Jane looks like Padme now!"

...she didn't before?

Yeah... no one better spoiler that in here without proper and extensive tagging. Remember, your American friends won't get it for another 9 days.

That's what this forum has a spoiler tag for, right? Before I'll get to the spoilers, I'll say that it was gorgeous in 3D, very good at confounding your expectations, absolutely hilarious, and Pepper Potts is the best superhero girlfriend ever.

I would also like to add a warning to the comic purists that The Mandarin is absolutely nothing that you expect, but is, I think, very well done.

Also, stay for the stinger at the very end. I cried with laughter.

Right, onto the more extensive ranting...
Spoiler: Thar be spoilers here. Yar.
I think I started laughing at Tony's name badge saying "You know who I am" and never stopped.

You could kinda tell that Aldrich Killian was going to be a villain from the moment he appeared; he reminded me very vividly of Jim Carey's Riddler in Batman Forever trying to be noticed by Bruce Wayne. He was a pretty badass villain; the moment where he breathes fire at Rhodey is awesome, and I absolutely cracked up at Rhodey's half-shocked, half-resigned "You-you breathe fire."

And the mook who dropped his gun, held up his hands and ran, yelling "I'll be honest, I don't like working here, these guys are weird!" Smartest random background character in the Marvel Universe, I swear.

At first I was shocked by the Mandarin turning out to be a drugged-up stage actor playing a part on Killian's behalf. My pal Courtney kept going "he's gotta be split-personality or something, or just f***ing with Tony, that'd be genius". But actually, in a modern context, I think it works very well, how completely the American public buy into the brutal stereotype, preventing them from looking for anything deeper.

You know what else was well-written? Tony's PTSD. Because NOBODY, superhero or not, nearly dies in alien space without some lasting trauma. His panic attacks had me screaming "LET ME HUG YOU POOR BABY" at the screen. The bit where he calls to his suit in his sleep was particularly frightening. And I love how the kid suggests that he deals with it by building something, so what does he do? Build black ops gear, including stun grenades, sleeping darts and a tazer glove, out of shit he bought at Walmart. The guy built an arc reactor IN A CAVE, WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS, he can do anything with Walmart and a kid's garage.

It was so sweet how he pimped Hayley's garage out at the end, actually. Most of the scenes of him interacting with the boy are pretty harsh because Tony's PTSDing hard and stressed and panicking, so he's pretty rude and cruel to the boy, but he's not ungrateful in the end. Which is awesome.

I also loved how, when his house was exploding around him and he could only reach one suit, his first response was to have it protect Pepper, not himself. That made me d'aaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwww.

Pepper Potts is so awesome in this movie, though, seriously, especially after she's Extremised and turns into an absolute hardcore badass. "I thought..." "You thought I was dead? What, because I fell two hundred feet into a fireball?" I gotta admit, I freaked out at that, I had to keep telling myself "Killian pumped her full of Extremis, that means she's alive..." but her beating down Killian was awesome. Also, Gwenyth Paltrow herself is pretty hardcore. I mean, in an interview, she mentioned that she was worried about putting on the suit because RDJ stressed about the weight of it so much and had breakdowns over it, and then when she actually put it on she found it easy. The woman has the abs of a god.

Most of the most awesome moments in the movie were for people outside of the suits, though. Tony's black ops run with his Walmart gear. Rhodey being helpless while trapped in the suit, then beating the shit out of everyone but Killian once he's out. Extremis!Pepper.

It was just so funny. So awesome. And then in the credits I was lamenting to Courtney about how it was almost perfect save for the lack of Science Bros... then GUESS WHO TURNS UP IN THE STINGER? Just... XDXDXDXDXDXD
I may have another rant later when it's not 3 in the morning and my brain's not so hyped up on adrenaline and Robert Downey Jr. Long story short, SEE THIS FILM. Talk about kicking off phase 2 with a bang...

I just wish my movie theatre would put up its schedule more than a week in advance. I want to order tickets on Fandango since I got like... $150 in fandango cash. Hopefully I can find a Digital Imax (not 3D) version available.
