Who is the person you most respect in real life??

Post by Conan-chandesune »

I respect Mahatma Gandhi. Gotta hand it to him. In India, South Africa, everywhere he fought for equality with non-violence and came out on top. If he had not been asassinated, Hindu-Muslim strife would not have survived to see this day. He had a rigorous code of honour most humans could not live by. I regard him as a level of greatness that humanity can never reach again.

Gonna join in the Ghandi respect.

I'm also a big fan of Stephen Fry for how upfront and eloquent he is both about his sexuality and his mental health conditions. People suffering from less palpable mental health conditions are sorely lacking in role models like him.

George Takei as well for being a witty, hilarious and courageous person. Also, any of his videos or posts about him and his husband Brad are adorable.

Jon Stewart. Tellin' it like it is forever.

P!nk is one of my all-time favourite people. I don't quite get behind her support of PETA because PETA are psychopaths, but I think her support of them comes from a good place, and her music reaches me more than any other. How her and her husband handled their separation is something I like as well; far too many celebrity breakups are surrounded by both parties using the tabloids to talk all the smack about the other they can. P!nk and her husband kept it between themselves and eventually managed to work things out and get back together.

Hayao Miyazaki mainly for the "no cuts" incident. Beautiful.

And I have all of the respect for my high school English teacher. She was brilliant at handling a class and very supportive of me when I tentatively showed her some short creative writing pieces. She was the one who first made me think I could really write. Also, studying Shakespeare with her was really fun because she liked teaching us Elizabethan slang so we actually got all the jokes (Shakespeare was a dirty bastard) and encouraging the people who were reading aloud to break into random swordfights with rulers. She wrote to me while I was in India. She's a wonderful person and literally the only thing I miss about high school is seeing her five days a week.

I have all of the respect for my mum for generally being an awesome human being, for growing up in one of the most redneck parts of Oklahoma and still somehow winding up an agnostic Democrat who works for a children's health charity, and for helping spearhead a movement among the mums of nearly every kid in my primary school to raise money for one of the mums to go home to Rwanda and build a preschool there. I've detailed this in the awesome stories thread recently, but the preschool and primary school are still going strong and the secondary school recently opened, allowing them to keep educating underprivileged kids well into their teens. I respect all mums involved immensely.

errm... not to be rude, I'd agree with the two but Caeser.... I disagree... Caeser cared for poor people as much as today's politian cares for poor people today.  ( he WAS a politian afterall...)

I'm on board with Tesla respect. Anyone who's been recorded to have shot lightning from their hands has my respect.

Also, Nelson Mandela.

Caeser brouthg a lot new laws that helped a lot of people

for example rich senators often bullied farmers away from their lands
then put slaves their to make money. Caeser makes laws against that

and in Caesers testament stood that 300million sesterce (half of his entire money )
shall be shared to all normal/lower class citiziens in Rome

Caeser himself was born in a higher famliy but
his drunken father had lost all the money
Caeser was leading the war in gaul to ran from his debts

this is the true Caeser and not hollywood
Gaius Marius

Gandhi, definitely.
Nobel and most Peace Nobel Prize Laureates also qualify.

As for statesman, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and (if you count him as one person :x) Emperor Meiji. Oh, and Frederic the Great. Bismarck only as far as foreign politics are concerned, he should have stayed out of domestics.

As for scientists, engineers and inventors, besides the common ones (Newton, Einstein, etc.), Charles Babbage and Alan Turing.
If  ;), :D, ;D, ::), :P, :-X, :o or >:D are attached, that paragraph may not be 100% serious. Seriously.
