Brain training (riddles and codes)

If you have some randomness to share that you can't post elsewhere, this is the place to do it.

OK...

After the last code worked that well, I'll post another one (or, to be more exact, two) - and a more difficult one. However, just as last time, I'll give hints. Enough hints so that everybody can solve it.

We have two different pieces of documents (they are images because it would have been impossible to post them otherwise^^). I had to give you such a large amount of text because you can not (or not with the resources we have access to) break the code if you have only one line. If you've figured out what they are about, simply post a few lines; you do not need to write the whole solution.

Both pages are independent from each other.
You may try to solve any of them (they use more or less the same code) without hints, but this a cryptanalytic task that's about the difficulty of breaking Vignere (for those of you who know what this is) - without knowing how. Therefore I suggest you to use the hints. If you post a solution, also tell how many hints you needed.

1. Hint
Spoiler:
You might believe it or not, but it's indeed English - except for parts of the very last line.
2. Hint
Spoiler:
You might have noticed, but there are not 26 different symbols, but instead, there are 17. Does not look like a normal Latin alphabet, does it?
3. Hint
Spoiler:
You should try to figure out the meaning of the "^" and the inverted one...
4. Hint
Spoiler:
By the way, this is the English translation of a German traditional - a famous one. And there are no capital letters in this writing.
5. Hint
Spoiler:
Ever heard about phonetic alphabets? This is a simplified one.
6. Hint
Spoiler:
Okay, seems you really need help. Well - the thing that looks like a small "e" is an "s" - but only without the ^ and the other one.
7. Hint
Spoiler:
Further help? The "T" is a "d" - without anything.
8. Hint
Spoiler:
Another letter? The thing that looks like a capital "E" is actually a "m".
9. Hint
Spoiler:
Okay, okay. You are really desperate? Well, the most important hint: The "^" adds voice to any consonant and lengths any vowel while the other one hardens the consonant and make vowels short. The "m" is an exception.
10. and last Hint.
Spoiler:
Okay. You seem to be unable to decipher it - but perhaps you can guess it? It's the English translation of a famous German traditional about the freedom of thoughts.

1. Hint
Spoiler:
You should know that this one is not in English (or, to be more precise, most of it isn't) - although I'm not sure if this makes the task easier or if it simplifies it...
2. Hint
Spoiler:
Well, if I post it here and it isn't English it's only logical that it's - Japanese. At least except the 1st, 9th, 13th and last line - but except the last one, those are all the same...
3. Hint
Spoiler:
You might have noticed, but there are not 26 different symbols, but instead, there are 17. Does not look like a normal Latin alphabet, does it?
4. Hint
Spoiler:
You should try to figure out the meaning of the "^" and the inverted one...
5. Hint
Spoiler:
You might have guessed because of the repetition of lines. Yes, it's indeed a song.
6. Hint
Spoiler:
Ever heard about phonetic alphabets? This is a simplified one. That's why Japanese might be easier than English...
7. Hint
Spoiler:
Okay, seems you really need help. Well - the thing that looks like a small "e" is an "s" - but only without the ^ and the other one.
8. Hint
Spoiler:
Further help? The "T" is a "d" - without anything.
9. Hint
Spoiler:
Okay, okay. You are really desperate? Well, the most important hint: The "^" adds voice to any consonant and lengths any vowel while the other one hardens the consonant and make vowels short. The "m" is an exception.
10. and last Hint.
Spoiler:
Let's give it a last try - this song was used for a DC opening!

A nice little riddle (it's fairly easy if you think about it)

Draw a square with two lines (EXACTLY 2 lines!!)

Good try, but not right...

Actually, I need to clarify a little (sorry!) When I said lines, I meant "straight lines"

I don't really get this answer.... You can describe what the answer's supposed to be like in words you know...

Never really thought of c-square's answer... actually makes sense, but not the right one!
