The reason LISP is often considered for AI is because with LISP you can (to a limited extent) write code that modifies itself. Other languages need to stop and recompile whenever you change the code, but LISP can change itself on the fly. I got to work in it on a project a while back, and I absolutely loved it. It can be utterly confusing at times, but also amazingly powerful in the right situations.Akonyl wrote: I just want to tell you that this is a horrible idea because I hate LISP and if I could go back in time I'd shoot the guy who made it.
but really it's an alright language but for how weird it is and all the parentheses that fly around everywhere in it, I don't get why it's supposed to be so amazing for AI and why you shouldn't just use whatever language you like most.

mm, that's true, but at the same time you can do similar things with dynamic java and interpreted languages, but I can see what you mean.c-square wrote:The reason LISP is often considered for AI is because with LISP you can (to a limited extent) write code that modifies itself. Well just remember to keep calm and don't worry too much if you are stuttering or anything like that. It happens to all of us.
Howdy Everyone=]

Re: Let's get programmy!
[me=Akonyl]passed his first and only interview :-X[/me]
but, related story from one of my coworkers who handles the interviews (and actually did mine way back when), there was a guy who once interviewed here and didn't get any of the questions right, so when he failed the interview, he went home, studied, then aced his next one somewhere else. The guy thanked him later for giving him a hard interview
moral of the story: If you study afterwards, each interview you suck at is just another you'll be better at in the future.
edit: I wish I could code my personal projects while at work, since I oftentimes (like now) have the burning desire to work on it while at work, but I know that as soon as I get home and am assaulted by other time-draining activities, my desire will wane

Re: Let's get programmy!
it's more like I have no time to brush up or study really.
Man, seriously, I'm going to become a witch at this rate from all this suffering.
f-ing systems engineering, I've been in the labs for like a cumalative 23+ hours. I was in here since 12:00pm to 5:00AM. Homura save me

Re: Let's get programmy!
I finished programming a new backend for the GCC
~ and that got me my bachelor degree !!! (I am finally able to process what happened at the beginning of the week - all that paperwork nearly killed me and there is more to come)
I will keep working on that project as a hobby because it's so damn fun

fun
pick 1 :V
and I managed to force myself to work more on my pet project, partially done with the editor now, close to being able to see actual results :O

I'm pretty sure liking working on a compiler is one of the signs of insanity
and just a game I work on from time to time that will probably never see completion

I guess working as in Informatics requires a certain level of insanity.
You only need to find out who dedicated you want to be

Re: Let's get programmy!
Didn't know there's actually a topic like this. :V
So, I'm a BS Computer Science student, and I'll be graduating soon hopefully. :V
The languages I know are assembly (Yes, I'm serious. :V), C++ and C#.
