Spoiler:
yeah, sorta thought that was weird myself, but eh. Though if you want to overanalyze it, his desire to just kill the guy at the start could also show what he sort of desires for himself, since he's said multiple times in the past things to the effect of "nobody hates me more than myself". So when the guy decides to kill himself, maybe the reason why it doesn't shake him up is because he's thought of that for himself before.

Could this be the return of "Time Lord Victorious"?

We first saw that persona begin to creep in in The Waters of Mars and with him basically alone in his travels (except for the stories we are seeing now) there is no one to keep him "in check".

There also seems to be a theme of "growing apart" in the current releases. In the season opener it had been several months since his last adventure with Amy and Rory. And the next episode (Dinosaurs in a Spaceship) it had been ten (10) months since they saw him last. They didn't say how long they had been apart from that story from the opening of A Town Called Mercy, but there remarks at the end (by Amy) are about aging while they are gone so they want to get back home before too much time passes - so we know that some time is going to pass after that story and the beginning of the next one...

Maybe with the absence of Amy and Rory in his travels the old "Time Lord Victorious" is starting to come back. I'm guessing that he will continue to get worse until he gets a new companion and we already know that he will get one n the Christmas special, so that might put a "damper" on the darker nature of the Doctor?

...But then I'm just speculating - I could be "way off base", but what do you think?

nope you are not alone. When he argues to amy why he needs to put Jax outside the line he says this " Today, I honour the victims first. His, the Master's, the Daleks', all the people who have died because of MY MERCY!"- sounds almost like time lord victorious to me saying he has right to judge who shall live and who don't.

So I read somewhere that the Angels Take Manhattan episode is going to be related to the Eleventh Hour. Apparently there was a hint in that episode that is going to lead to the departure of Amy and Rory. Does anyone know or want to take a guess on the possibilities of what is going to be?

If I had to guess:
I think you might have a big clue in The Time of Angels / Flesh and Stone. I think there is a lot to build on and it will be done with the new episode.

I'm guessing that Amy is still infected from the angels from then and what happens in this episode deals with the continued infection of Amy - but then again its a total guess...
Spoiler:
I'm expecting Amy to die from her exposure to the angels and Rory takes it badly. That creates a clean break from the Doctor and the Ponds to where they have nothing more to do with each other.
BTW: Did anybody notice that time was a factor again - in The Power of Three. It is mentioned that the relationship between the Doctor and the Ponds has now expanded to 10 years... - I'm just saying... (look to previous post,)

NOTE:
If I'm right. please forgive me for giving away a spoiler. It won't be the first time my speculation is right. I've correctly predicted so many things right about the show - it's kinda scary.

PS: We knew that Amy and Rory were going to leave in the next episode - we just didn't know how.
Spoiler:
The talk with Brian and the Doctor about his past companions lead me to believe that a companion is going to die, and Amy is more of a companion the Rory is. Brian is foreshadowing the event.

I'm sorry if I'm right  - I didn't mean to give things away!

BTW: My predicted link from The Eleventh Hour - eyes!
Spoiler:
The creatures from space (in The Eleventh Hour) were giant eyes, Amy got an angel in her eye, ... need I say more...

That's an interesting theory, Magical Mystery, but I'd say, considering that the weeping angels are back, they're going to be sent in the past and won't be able to come back in the present, whatever the doctor do to bring them back.
Also, I'm dreading the part where Mr Weasley is going to so sad and I'll end up crying!

I liked the episode. I'm sad though, because I spoiled a part of the next episode for myself, which woulda been awesome to just see without knowing. Although now that I think of it, of course they were going to do that  :-X

oh dear oh dear, If amy was to die I fear it will hit Doctor hard... I mean considering Doctor has slipery moral ground as of " town called mercy" I feel it will hit doctor Harder then when he had to erase Donna's memory and leave her... I hope he dose not go Time Lord Victorious again...

EDIT: I just watched power of three and... oh man it looks like every sign is pointing at either Amy or Rory dying... Next episode is going to be SAD...  :( :( :(

that's a pretty good catch right there. So, not that it matters a whole bunch, but it looks like episode 3 actually happened during/after episode 4.

Spoiler:
I think that Amy's death will be the thing that stops the progression of "Time Lord Victorious". Her death will shock him back to his senses.

It will be especially hard on him because she has been with him (on and off) since he regenerated into this persona. Amy (or Amelia) has been involved with this incarnation since the beginning - all the way back to Amy's childhood.

I liked it, the atmosphere throughout was brilliant and I found the ending really sweet. The angels could've been used better, but I'd say that outside of Blink, this has been their best usage and they weren't exactly the main focus anyway.
Spoiler:
Seriously though, River now being a 'professor' after that ep, ouch :|, Hope the sendoff is good... :-\

It was sad, but good.
Spoiler:
I liked the message that Amy left behind to comfort him. And that he then visited little Amelia, the girl who waited...

saying "outside of Blink this has been their best usage" is kinda silly considering iirc they've only appeared in one other episode (albeit a two-parter)

also
Spoiler:
the callback at the end of the episode to the very first Matt Smith episode where Amelia looked up at the Tardis sound that was never explained until now blew my mind.

Well, I was partially right
Spoiler:
Amy did die, but so did Rory - in the past!

At least they lived out a normal life and had a normal death, instead of a more gruesome one.

Rory finally got the recognition as a husband he deserved - on their tombstone it said Williams instead of Pond for both of them.

Rory Arthur Williams
Age 82

Amelia Williams
Age 87

I figured that the angel in Amy's eye from the previous story (The Time of Angels / Flesh and Stone) would have had more to do with things. Moffat loves to include things from his previous episodes into current ones and that's where that idea came from.
