from what I remember hearing I thought it was gonna be one of those ~25 episode shows (whatever that's called), which is why I'm surprised at how fast they're zerging up the levels. Unless the entire series is gonna be about the last 5 floors or something.

I don't know why they are starting with all the side stories though, wouldn't it make more sense to have the side stories in between the actual main plot, rather than just toss him all in the beginning?

and the wiki page says 25 episodes so that's it I guess

as to the side stories, I feel like they're doing them as establishing episodes (the earlier episodes were more about his development and this one was maybe meant to establish the presence of PKers), so it makes a bit of sense to put a few of em at the start of the show. I would like to get some actual plot soon, though.

Anyway, 1 or 2 more episodes of sidestories left. Well, I expect a whole different arc by episode 13 though /hint hint xD

@ranger: If they followed the main story without sidestories, you would have dropped this by episode 2.

the scene where Asuna stopped Kirito from stabbing his hand was great because unless they're all red herrings, they make sure to make it sound like it's the swords, in which case he woulda found out right then and there

also I'm curious if they're gonna bring up the ethicality of killing NPCs again or if that was just to show how into the world Kirito was.

I didn't read this side-story(because it's from volume 8, lol, last episode was from volume 2) but it was a great episode overall. ^Akonyl, I've only read Volume 1, and that wasn't important, but might be brought up later.

pretty good, the npc thing Kirito made me go "wut", and that one girl going apeshit about virtual ghosts in mmos made me facepalm

My thoughts as I watched it:

1) Don't leave the girl alone, her reaction obviously shows she knows something and will be the next victim.
2) Stop calling it a lance.  It's a sword/giant dagger.  There's nothing lance-like about it.
3) This bitch is flipping out to the point of absurdity.  She's the culprit.
4) Oh, guess maybe she isn't the culprit.  Unless...
5) She has a skill/item that lets her create illusions/shadow clones and she merely killed a mirage.

I think this episode was a bit of an improvement from the past few weeks. I think the only thing that really bothered me was the chick going crazy. o_O; Maybe they should have picked a different VA.

That's what happening.    They've already done most of book 2 (Side story book) and the current episodes are from book 8 (another side story book).    I'm personally loving the books (halfway through 5), though, the anime seems a little rushed in a few ways, but still a good way to fill the time.   Just got to wait and see what they do for the main arc.
