If I can get it off of a private server, mediafire, or sendspace (or back in the day, MegaUpload or Fileshare), then DDL.  Otherwise, torrents.  Streaming is really bad and I avoid it whenever possible.

DDL. I hate streaming because my internet connection tends to crap out mid-stream and I can never make torrents work.

DDL, followed closely by torrents. I can't stand streaming; not only doesn't it really work with my connection speed, it's also unsuited if you want to use the file in question it a second time later - not to mention that DDL+VLC is pretty much streaming anyway
Basically, if it's only a few files, DDL, if it's multiple or very large ones, torrent.

DDL: Direct download. If you've ever heard of MediaFire, it's that
Torrent: (Best explanation I could find )Torrents are small files that tell your computer where to download bigger files.
To open them you will need uTorrent or BitTorrent. You open the file with uTorrent and then it will start downloading the files you want from Seeders. (People who have the files and are uploading them to other people) You Have to be careful about what you download, of course.

DDL(or streaming). All of the methods will download the same amount of file, but torrents are based off of the fact that you (and everyone else downloading the file) are also sharing it with each other, so you'll spend extra bandwidth on torrents by how much you upload.
